A simple procedure to simulate the failure evolution
Chen, Zhen Techno-Press 1996 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.4 No.6
To simulate the large-scale failure evolution with current computational facilities, a simple approach, that catches the essential feature of failure mechanisms, must be available so that the routine use of failure analysis is feasible. Based on the previous research results, a simple analysis procedure is described in this paper for failure simulation. In this procedure, the evolution of localization is represented by a moving surface of discontinuity, and the transition between continuous and discontinuous failure modes are described via the moving jump forms of conservation laws. As a result, local plasticity and damage models, that are formulated based on thermodynamic restrictions, are still valid without invoking higher order terms, and simple integration schemes can be designed for the rate forms of constitutive models. To resolve localized large deformations and subsequent cracking, an efficient structural solution scheme is given for Static and dynamic problems.

This paper considers a novel scenario, where a physicallayer security issue is studied in unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)-assisted cognitive relay system. A secondary unmannedaerial vehicle (SUAV) relay delivers information from multiplesecondary Internet of things (IoT) devices to a secondary user(SU) under the spectrum sharing with primary users (PUs). Inthe processing of the information transmission of the SUAV relay,a secondary eavesdropper (SE) wiretaps the information transmittedby the UAV relay with imperfect location information. Inorder to confuse the SE, a friendly SUAV jammer is employedto transmit jamming signals to the SE. To prevent the SEwiretapping information as much as possible, we aim to maximizeaverage worst-case secrecy rate of the secondary relay networkby jointly optimizing robust trajectories and power of the SUAVrelay and jammer under the power, trajectories, informationcausality and multiple interference temperature (IT) thresholdconstraints. Thus, we formulate the original problem whichis a challenging non-convex problem. We propose an effectivealgorithm to solve the original problem and attain locally optimalsolution based on the successive convex approximation (SCA)technology and the alternate optimization method. Simulationsare offered to demonstrate that our proposed resource allocationscheme can effectively improve the security performance ofthe SUAV relay network in comparison with other benchmarkschemes.

Protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) is a key factor in negative regulation of the insulin pathway, and is a promising target for the treatment of type-II diabetes, obesity and cancer. Herein, compound ($\mathbf{4}$) was first observed to have moderate inhibitory activity against PTP1B with an $IC_{50}$ value of $13.72{\pm}1.53{\mu}M$. To obtain more potent PTP1B inhibitors, we synthesized a series of chalcone derivatives using compound ($\mathbf{4}$) as the lead compound. Compound $\mathbf{4l}$ ($IC_{50}=3.12{\pm}0.18{\mu}M$) was 4.4-fold more potent than the lead compound $\mathbf{4}$ ($IC_{50}=13.72{\pm}1.53{\mu}M$), and more potent than the positive control, ursolic acid ($IC_{50}=3.40{\pm}0.21{\mu}M$). These results may help to provide suitable drug-like lead compounds for the design of inhibitors of PTP1B as well as other PTPs.

Chrysin-b-D-galactopyranoside was efficiently synthesized, evaluated for its inhibitory activities against H22 cell lines compared with chrysin, the scavenging of hydroxyl radical, DPPH radical and superoxide anion, inhibitory effect against bacteria and fungi. The structures of all compounds were fully characterized by spectroscopic data (NMR, MS). The anti-tumor, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of chrysin-b-D-galactopyranoside were proved to be enhanced significantly compared with chrysin.

After the image decomposition with Non-subsampled Shearlet Transform (NSST), the transform coefficients have a larger redundancy. In order to reduce the redundant information, an image fusion algorithm based on NSST and non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) is introduced. The source images are decomposed with NSST into the low-frequency coefficients and the high-frequency sub-band coefficients. The low-frequency coefficients are fused based on NMF theory. The high-frequency coefficients are fused based on Regional Sum Modified-Laplacian (SML) Maximum. Finally, the inverse NSST is used to reconstruct the final fused image. The proposed algorithm can effectively remove redundant information, extract global features and capture more direction details information of multi-source image. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm has obvious advantages and the fused image quality has been greatly improved. The presented algorithm is superior to other fusion algorithms from the objective parameters.

This paper investigates the mediated narratives and identity construction of a reading club of female workers in call centers of multinational corporations in Dalian China, where the discourse of an empowering ‘female force’ has been popularized and scrutinized on Chinese social media. These professional workers manage and construct their emerging middle-class identities through embodied experiences and mediated discourses fostered by an English reading club that is both online and offline. Responding to recent critiques of neoliberal feminism in the Chinese context, this study uses a mixed-method approach to unpack the complex processes of these women’s identity construction and performance through participatory reading practices. This includes ethnographic participant observation in offline reading club activities, in-depth interviews, and a discourse analysis of mediated narratives on social media (WeChat). We argue that Chinese working women’s identity construction and performance are shaped by complex intersections of class, nation, gender and workplace/institutions, where their encounters are in flux, given the changing neoliberal globalization process after China’s four-decade long opening up reform. This study challenges and extends the critique of neoliberal feminism and finds evidence of agency and tactical engagement whereby female workers negotiate their emerging middle-class identities and forge possible solidarities within a networked workplace.
