Variation of resistance and susceptibility in wheat cultivars to different populations of Rhopalosiphum padi (Hemiptera: Aphididae) in China

        Meng Zhang,Xianfeng Qiao,Xiong Peng,Maohua Chen 한국응용곤충학회 2016 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.19 No.2

The bird cherry-oat aphid, Rhopalosiphumpadi (L.) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is an important pest insect ofwheat, Triticum aestivum (L.), in China. The susceptibility and resistance of wheat cultivars to different populations of R. padi have been rarely reported. In the current study, eight R. padi populations were collected from different provinces of China, the resistance or susceptibility of six wheat cultivars (Emai 596, Emai 18, Emai 251, Zhengmai 98, Xanthus and 35A9B) to these eight populations was tested by the ratio of aphid abundance according the standard method previously reported. The results showed that R. padi populations from Lanzhou of Gansu Province and Taian of Shandong Province showed similar pattern of aphid-host reactions among the six wheat cultivars. Populations from Nanyang of Henan Province and Baicheng of Jilin Province shared a different pattern of reaction. The respective populations from Xianyang of Shaaxi Privince, Beibei of Chongqing Province, Hongtong of Shanxi Province and Baoding of Hebei Province showed unique resistance/susceptible patterns of aphid-host reactions from other populations. The variability in the response to wheat cultivars to R. padi indicated the existence of biotypic variation in populations. The weight of adult aphid survivors of different populations varied on six wheat cultivars, but did not correspond well to the susceptibility and resistance of wheat cultivars. Our findings are important for the sustainable control of R. padi in different wheat growing regions of China.

KI-HABS: Key Information Guided Hierarchical Abstractive Summarization

( Mengli Zhang ),( Gang Zhou ),( Wanting Yu ),( Wenfen Liu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2021 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.15 No.12

With the unprecedented growth of textual information on the Internet, an efficient automatic summarization system has become an urgent need. Recently, the neural network models based on the encoder-decoder with an attention mechanism have demonstrated powerful capabilities in the sentence summarization task. However, for paragraphs or longer document summarization, these models fail to mine the core information in the input text, which leads to information loss and repetitions. In this paper, we propose an abstractive document summarization method by applying guidance signals of key sentences to the encoder based on the hierarchical encoder-decoder architecture, denoted as KI-HABS. Specifically, we first train an extractor to extract key sentences in the input document by the hierarchical bidirectional GRU. Then, we encode the key sentences to the key information representation in the sentence level. Finally, we adopt key information representation guided selective encoding strategies to filter source information, which establishes a connection between the key sentences and the document. We use the CNN/Daily Mail and Gigaword datasets to evaluate our model. The experimental results demonstrate that our method generates more informative and concise summaries, achieving better performance than the competitive models.

      • Progression of NETs Correlating with Tumor-Related Diseases

Zhang, Le-Meng,Chen, Jian-Hua Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.17

As an important component of innate immune system, neutrophil has been involved in many other physiological processes, including tumor-related diseases. In 2004, the phenomenon of NETs was reported for the first time. Extracellular decondensed chromatin, released from activated neutrophils, forms a network structure, which is NETs. This review focuses on the function of NETs in tumor cell proliferation, metastasis, and tumor-associated thrombosis; it also explores the application of NETs specific markers in the diagnosis of pre-thrombotic state and tumor associated diseases; it also explores NETs inhibitor for the treatment of tumor-related diseases. In view of the rapid development of NETs, it may provide new therapeutic targets for tumor-associated thrombosis, and even tumor itself.

      • Dynamic response of an overhead transmission tower–line system to high-speed train-induced wind

Meng Zhang,Ying Liu,Hao Liu,Guifeng Zhao 한국풍공학회 2022 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.34 No.4

The current work numerically investigates the transient force and dynamic response of an overhead transmission tower–line structure caused by the passage of a high-speed train (HST). Taking the CRH2C HST and an overhead transmission tower–line structure as the research objects, both an HST–transmission line fluid numerical model and a transmission tower–line structure finite element model are established and validated through comparison with experimental and theoretical data. The transient force and typical dynamic response of the overhead transmission tower–line structure due to HST-induced wind are analyzed. The results show that when the train passes through the overhead transmission tower–line structure, the extreme force on the transmission line is related to the train speed with a significant quadratic function relationship. Once the relative distance from the track is more than 15 m, the train-induced force is small enough to be ignored. The extreme value of the mid-span dynamic response of the transmission line is related to the train speed and span length with a significant linear functional relationship.

Fractal Structures and Their Computer Simulation in Rapidly Quenched Al - Mn Alloys

        Zhang, Meng,Hong, Chunyong,Dai, Hong,Yang, Pinsheng,Tan, Yuxi 대한금속재료학회(대한금속학회) 1999 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.5 No.1

The microstructure of rapidly quenched Al-Mn alloys were studied by TEM and SEM. The icosahedral phase in Al-Mn alloys was observed to show various types of fractal morphologies, which may be classified into four kinds: 1) dendritic shape, 2) flower-like shape, 3) granular shape and 4) grain-oscillation shape. After being digitized by a computer, the fractal dimensions (D) of these morphologies were calculated. Based on the traditional diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) model computer simulations were made with two-seeded and many-seeded clusters, which reflect the growing mechanism of some fractal structures in Al-Mn alloys. It is suggested that these fractal structures are formed by many icosahedral particles about 20 nm in size aggregating during the rapid quenching process.

Deformation analyses during subway shield excavation considering stiffness influences of underground structures

        Zhang, Zhi-guo,Zhao, Qi-hua,Zhang, Meng-xi Techno-Press 2016 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.11 No.1

Previous studies for soil movements induced by tunneling have primarily focused on the free soil displacements. However, the stiffness of existing structures is expected to alter tunneling-induced ground movements, the sheltering influences for underground structures should be included. Furthermore, minimal attention has been given to the settings for the shield machine's operation parameters during the process of tunnels crossing above and below existing tunnels. Based on the Shanghai railway project, the soil movements induced by an earth pressure balance (EPB) shield considering the sheltering effects of existing tunnels are presented by the simplified theoretical method, the three-dimensional finite element (3D FE) simulation method, and the in-situ monitoring method. The deformation prediction of existing tunnels during complex traversing process is also presented. In addition, the deformation controlling safety measurements are carried out simultaneously to obtain the settings for the shield propulsion parameters, including earth pressure for cutting open, synchronized grouting, propulsion speed, and cutter head torque. It appears that the sheltering effects of underground structures have a great influence on ground movements caused by tunneling. The error obtained by the previous simplified methods based on the free soil displacements cannot be dismissed when encountering many existing structures.

      • Potential Therapeutic Targets for the Primary Gallbladder Carcinoma: Estrogen Receptors

        Zhang, Ling-Qiang,Zhang, Xiu-De,Xu, Jia,Wan, Yong,Qu, Kai,Zhang, Jing-Yao,Wang, Zhi-Xin,Wei, Ji-Chao,Meng, Fan-Di,Tai, Ming-Hui,Zhou, Lei,Liu, Chang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.4

Gallbladder carcinoma, the most frequent malignant neoplasm of the biliary tract system, has always been considered to feature late clinical presentation and diagnosis, limited treatment options and an extremely poor prognosis. In recent years, while the incidence of gallbladder cancer has appeared to be on the increase, the available treatment methods have not greatly improved survival of the affected patients. Thus, exploring new therapeutic targets for this devastating disease is an urgent matter at present. Epidemical studies have demonstrated that the incidence of gallbladder carcinoma exhibits a distinct gender bias, affecting females two to three times more than males, pointing to crucial roles of estrogen. It is well known that estrogen acts on target tissues by binding to estrogen receptors (ERs), which are mainly divided into three subtypes, $ER{\alpha}$, $ER{\beta}$ and $ER{\gamma}$. $ER{\alpha}$ and $ER{\beta}$ appear to have overlapping but also unique even opposite biological effects. As important pathogenic mediators, ERs have been considered to relate to several kinds of tumors. In gallbladder carcinoma tissue, ERs have been shown to be positively expressed, and ERs expression levels are associated with differentiation and prognosis of this cancer. Nevertheless, the exact mechanisms of estrogen inducing growth of gallbladder carcinoma remain poorly understood. On the base of the current investigations, we deduce that estrogen participates in promotion of gallbladder carcinoma by influencing the formation of gallstones, stimulating angiogenesis, and promoting abnormal proliferation. Since ERs mediate the carcinogenic actions of estrogen in gallbladder, and therapy targeting ERs may provide new directions for gallbladder carcinoma. Therefore, it should be stressed that ERs are potential therapeutic targets for gallbladder carcinoma.

      • Prevalence of Human Papillomavirus 16 in Esophageal Cancer Among the Chinese Population: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

        Zhang, Shao-Kai,Guo, Lan-Wei,Chen, Qiong,Zhang, Meng,Liu, Shu-Zheng,Quan, Pei-Liang,Lu, Jian-Bang,Sun, Xi-Bin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23

Background and Aim: No firm evidence of HPV infection in esophageal cancer has been established to date. The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the prevalence of HPV 16 in esophageal cancer in China, which had a high burden of the disease. Materials and Methods: Studies on HPV infection and esophageal cancer were identified and a random-effects model was used to pool the summary prevalence and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: A total of 3,429 esophageal cancer cases were evaluated from 26 eligible studies in this meta-analysis. The summary estimate for HPV16 prevalence was 0.381 (95% CI: 0.283, 0.479). The prevalence varied by geographical areas of the study, publication year, HPV detection method and types of specimen. In sensitivity analysis, HPV 16 prevalence ranged from 0.368 (95% CI: 0.276, 0.460) to 0.397 (95% CI: 0.286, 0.508). Conclusions: The results indicate a relatively high level of HPV 16 prevalence in esophageal cancer among Chinese population, although there was variation between different variables. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of HPV in esophageal carcinogenesis with careful consideration of study design and laboratory detection method, providing more accurate assessment of the HPV status in esophageal cancer.
