        The Effect of Physical Activity on Glucose Metabolism in the Prediabetic People

        At present, the prediabetic population was gradually increasing, Individuals with prediabetes are at high risk with up to 70% eventually progressing to type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) over their lifetimes. Due to insufficient treatment strategies of T2DM currently, it was particularly important to take preventative methods for them. The lifestyle intervention (exercise and diet) was an important therapy in the prevention, care and management of prediabetes. Based on the literature review of the relationship between exercise (aerobic exercise of moderate intensity and resistance training) intervention and glucose homeostasis index and incidence rate of T2DM in prediabetic individuals, this article tried to summarize the effective exercise intensity, mode and volume for the improvement of prediabetic people, which will contribute to provide practical and effective exercise guidance and recommendations for them. Forty-four papers were searched out in websites like Pubmed and Highwire after typing the key words of “Prediabetes”, “Prediabetic Individuals”, “Exercise”, “Training”, “Glucose Homeostasis”, “Resistance Training” and “Physical Activity”. Through the literature review, it is found that aerobic exercise and resistance training can significantly improve the glucose metabolism and reduce the risk of T2DM in the prediabetic individuals. Moderate intensity physical activity (11.7-18.2km/week, total 6 months) is significantly superior to the energy-equivalent amount of vigorous-intensity exercise for improvements in glucose tolerance and reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The research results about the effect of 12 weeks resistance training on glucose homeostasis in prediabetes are inconsistent, In order to improve the glucose metabolism and reduce the risk of developing T2DM, at least 16 weeks of resistance training is recommended.. Additionally, this review would provide the theoretical basis for the establishment of the 73 Balanced Health Methods.

        Effects of Aqueous Extract of Schizandrae Fructus on Lead-Induced Change of Monoamine Neurotransmitters in Hippocampus

        The effects of aqueous extract of Schizandrae Fructus (AESC) on lead (Pb)-induced changes of monoamine neurotransmitters in the hippocampus (HIP) of adult rats were investigated. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were received intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of Pb acetate (5 mg/kg/d) for 28 days and sacrificed 7 days after the last administration. Concentrations of norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-HT), 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid (5-HIAA) in HIP were measured by HPLC. There were significant decreases of NE, DA, 5-HT and 5-HIAA in Pb treated rats (P < 0.05), while pretreatment with AESC (100 mg/kg/d or 300 mg/kg/d, p.o., 2 h before Pb) greatly inhibited the decrease of monoamine transmitters, respectively (P < 0.05). Also, AESC (300 mg/kg/d) significantly increased the reduction of glutathione contents and superoxide dismutase activities in HIP induced by chronic Pb. These results suggest that AESC ameliorates Pb-induced depletion of monoamine neurotransmitters in HIP through its antioxidant activity.

        This essay discusses setbacks to societal level of interactions between the United States and China resulting from the Trump administration’s turn to comprehensive confrontation. Bilateral cooperation in areas like public health, technology trade and development, law enforcement, and trade in food and energy has been severely curtailed. Future efforts to repair damage to bilateral relations will have to begin with these and related areas that indisputably have a direct impact on individual welfare in the two societies.

        A novel method for correction of temporally- and spatially-variant optical distortion in planar particle image velocimetry

        <P>In-cylinder flow measurements are necessary to gain a fundamental understanding of swirl-supported, light-duty Diesel engine processes for high thermal efficiency and low emissions. Planar particle image velocimetry (PIV) can be used for non-intrusive, <I>in situ</I> measurement of swirl-plane velocity fields through a transparent piston. In order to keep the flow unchanged from all-metal engine operation, the geometry of the transparent piston must adapt the production-intent metal piston geometry. As a result, a temporally- and spatially-variant optical distortion is introduced to the particle images. To ensure reliable measurement of particle displacements, this work documents a systematic exploration of optical distortion quantification and a hybrid back-projection procedure that combines ray-tracing-based geometric and <I>in situ</I> manual back-projection approaches.</P> <P>The proposed hybrid back-projection method for the first time provides a time-efficient and robust way to process planar PIV measurements conducted in an optical research engine with temporally- and spatially-varying optical distortion. This method is based upon geometric ray tracing and serves as a universal tool for the correction of optical distortion with an arbitrary but axisymmetric piston crown window geometry. Analytical analysis demonstrates that the ignorance of optical distortion change during the PIV laser temporal interval may induce a significant error in instantaneous velocity measurements. With the proposed digital dewarping method, this piston-motion-induced error can be eliminated. Uncertainty analysis with simulated particle images provides guidance on whether to back-project particle images or back-project velocity fields in order to minimize dewarping-induced uncertainties. The optimal implementation is piston-geometry-dependent. For regions with significant change in nominal magnification factor, it is recommended to apply the proposed back-projection approach to particle images prior to PIV interrogation. For regions with significant dewarping-induced particle elongation (<img ALIGN='MIDDLE' ALT='${{E}_{\text{p}}}>3$ ' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0957-0233/27/8/085201/mstaa28ddieqn001.gif'/>), it is recommended to apply the proposed dewarping method to the vector fields resulting from PIV interrogation of raw particle image pairs.</P>

        Gasification reactivity and combustion characteristics of semi-coke

        Various semi-cokes were obtained from medium–low-temperature pyrolysis of Shenmu long flame coal. The combustion characteristic index and CO2 gasification reactivity of semi-cokes were measured and analyzed using thermogravimetry analysis. The influence of particle size on CO2 gasification reactivities of these semi-cokes was studied. In addition, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area (SBET), carbon material structure order and carbon crystalline structure were examined by N2 adsorption, Raman spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction. All of these properties were used to evaluate the CO2 gasification reactivity of these semi-cokes. The results show that the gasification reactivity of semi-cokes decreases with an increasing crystallinity and structure order. Surface area of the pores is proportional to the reactivity of the semi-coke; the greater the surface area, the faster the gasification reaction rate.

        Rhomboids Strength Training for Improvement of Somatic Symptoms of Cervical Spondylosis

        It could be derived from the relevant traditional Chinese medical theories that rhomboids strength training is expected to improve the somatic symptoms of cervical spondylosis. Twelve cervical spondylosis cases (male, 32.67 ± 7.57 yrs) confirmed were tested for maximum isotonic contraction rhomboids muscle strength, with an improved high-intensity training for a period of a fortnight. Right after the training, maximum muscle strength test of the rhomboids isotonic contraction was done again and was compared with that before the training, for the purpose of determining whether those subjective somatic symptoms were improved. Data collected before and after training were processed by IBM Information Management’s PASW Statistics 18.0 under paired-sample T-test (two-tailed, α= 0.05). This experiment demonstrated that after specific training the rhomboids myodynamia was significantly boosted (P <0.05), and that all subjects’ subjective somatic symptoms were improved. Targeted exercises for Jin (muscles and tendons) in the region around Du Meridian in the upper back is helpful for the treatment of cervical spondylosis, and Qi stagnation and blood stasis in the upper back, neck and shoulder. In modern physical training, compliance with the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine is effective for the control of somatic symptoms of cervical spondylosis, whereupon such compliance is the conjunction of the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine in the non-clinical arenas.
