Dental Panoramic Radiographic Indices as a Predictor of Osteoporosis in Postmenopausal Saudi Women

        Ayman Zaky Elsamanoudy,Madiha Mahmoud Gomaa,Rabab Mohammed Feteih,Najlaa Mohammed AlAmoudi,Ayman Zaky Elsamanoudy,Mohammed Ahmed Hassanien,Mohammed-Salleh M. Ardawi 대한골대사학회 2018 대한골대사학회지 Vol.25 No.3

Background: Many oral presentations of osteoporosis-a bone metabolic disease-were recorded. Thus, we aimed to assess panoramic radiomorphometric indices with bone mineral density (BMD) values among Saudi postmenopausal women and its importance in the prediction of osteoporosis. Methods: A total of 431 Saudi women were enrolled in this study. Panoramic radiographs were obtained at the time of BMD measurement. Subjects were fatherly classified into; normal BMD, osteopenia, and osteoporosis groups. Serum follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25[OH]D) and intact-parathyroid hormone were measured. Moreover, serum creatinine, calcium, and phosphate, together with serum osteocalcin (s-OC), procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide (s-PINP) and cross-linked C-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen (s-CTX) were measured. Receiver-operator curve (ROC) curve analysis for use of mandibular cortical width (MCW), panoramic mandibular index (PMI), and maxillary-mandibular ratio (M/M ratio) to differentiate women with osteoporosis or osteopenia from normal subjects was calculated. Cut off values of 4.6 at T score <-1 and 4.1 at T score ≤-2.5 were used. Results: Body mass index is significantly low in the osteoporotic group. There is no significant difference in serum levels of LH, E2, calcium, phosphate, and 25(OH)D between the studied groups. Moreover, s-OC, C-terminal propeptide of procollagen type I, s-PINP, s-CTX, and urinary-CTX are significantly higher in osteoporosis than normal and osteopenia groups. ROC curve analysis revealed that MCW and PMI showed significant data while M/M ratio is non-significant. Conclusions: It could be concluded that MCW as an important panoramic radiographic parameter can be used for prediction and diagnosis of osteoporosis in postmenopausal Saudi women with low BMD.

Post-pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus detection by real-time PCR and virus isolation

Zaki, Ali Mohamed,Taha, Shereen El-Sayed,Shady, Nancy Mohamed Abu,Abdel-Rehim, Asmaa Saber,Mohammed, Hedya Said The Microbiological Society of Korea 2019 미생물학회지 Vol.55 No.1

Influenza A (H1N1) virus caused a worldwide pandemic in 2009-2010 and still remains in seasonal circulation. Continuous surveillance activities are encouraged in the post pandemic phase to watch over the trend of occurrence every year, this is better to be done by a rapid and sensitive method for its detection. This study was conducted to detect proportions of occurrence of influenza A virus (H1N1) in patients with influenza-like illness. Samples from 500 patients with influenza or influenza-like clinical presentation were tested by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and virus tissue culture. Among the total 500 participants, 193 (38.6%) were females and 307 (61.4%) males. Seventy-one patients (14.2%) were positive for H1N1 virus infection with real-time RT-PCR while 52 (10.4%) were positive by tissue culture. Non-statistically significant relation was found between age and gender with the positivity of H1N1. Sensitivity and specificity of real-time RT-PCR was 98.08% and 95.54%, respectively, in comparison to virus isolation with accuracy 95.8%. This study showed that H1N1 virus was responsible for a good proportion of influenza during the post-pandemic period. Real-time RT-PCR provides rapidity and sensitivity for the detection of influenza A virus (H1N1) compared with virus isolation and thus it is recommended as a diagnostic tool.

THE USE OF SEAWEED MEAL IN FEEDING COMMON CARP (Cyprinus carpio L.)

        Zaki, M.A.,Nour, A.M.,Omar, E.,Tag El-Din, A.E. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1994 Animal Bioscience Vol.7 No.2

Two experiments were made. In experiment 1, four diets containing 0, 5, 15 and 25% washed seaweed meal were prepared to study the effects of incorporating seaweed meal instead of equivalent amounts of berseem leaf meal in fish feeds on growth performance and feed utilization of common carp. The results showed that average daily gain (ADG), specific growth rate (SGR%), dry matter (DM) and ether extract (EE) of the carcasses were decreased (p<0.05) with the increasing level of seaweed meal in the feeds. Inclusion of 5% seaweed meal in the diet gave the best feed conversion ratio (FCR) among all diets, however, protein productive value (PPV) and energy utilization (EU) were decreased (p<0.05) with increasing level of seaweed meal in the diet. In experiment 2, washed seaweed meal was either steam cooked or sprayed with NaOH (0.5% or 1% NaOH) and incorporated in the diets at the level of 25% instead of equivalent amount of berseem leaf meal. The results showed that steam cooked seaweed gave the best (p<0.05) growth performance, FCR and protein efficiency ratios, PER and PPV, for other treatments in descending order were NaOH treated seaweed, washed seaweed and unwashed seaweed.

      • Effect of Load Condition on Turning Performance of a VLCC in Adverse Weather Conditions

Zaky, Mochammad,Yasukawa, Hironori Korean Society of Ocean Engineers 2018 Journal of advanced research in ocean engineering Vol.4 No.2

The load condition significantly influences ship maneuverability in calm water. In this research, the effect of the load condition on turning performance of a very large crude oil carrier (VLCC) sailing in adverse weather conditions is investigated by an MMG-based maneuvering simulation method. The relative drift direction of the ship in turning to the wave direction is $20^{\circ}-30^{\circ}$ in ballast load condition (NB) and full load condition (DF) with a rudder angle $35^{\circ}$ and almost constant for any wind (wave) directions. The drifting displacement in turning under NB becomes larger than that under DF at the same environmental condition. Advance $A_d$ and tactical diameter $D_t$ become significantly small with an increasing Beaufort scale in head wind and waves when approaching, although $A_d$ and $D_t$ are almost constant in following wind and waves. In beam wind and waves, the tendency depends on the plus and minus of the rudder angle.

Preparation of phosphate promoted Na2WO4/Al2O3 catalyst and its application for oxidative desulfurization

Zaki Eldin Ali Abdalla,Asma Tufail,Baoshan Li 한국공업화학회 2009 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.15 No.6

Phosphate promoted Na2WO4/Al2O3 catalyst with 10 wt.% tungsten was prepared by simple impregnation method. Analytical characterization results showed that tungstate and phosphate were uniformly dispersed in alumina matrix and its structural properties were preserved. The effect of phosphate as promoter in catalyst activity was studied using dibenzothiophine (DBT) as model oil and the results reveal that it plays an important role in oxidation activity of Na2WO4/Al2O3 catalyst, in addition, the catalytic activity of Na2WO4/Al2O3 was increased gradually with increasing phosphorus contents up to 2.5 wt.%. The catalyst was recycled and the results show that no significant decrease in catalyst activity was observed even after five recycled runs. We also applied our catalyst in oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of FCC diesel oil (with sulfur contents 4100 ppm), andmore than 92% of sulfur was removed from diesel oil under mild reaction conditions

Background: Fragile histidine triad (FHIT) gene is a tumor suppressor gene which involved in breast cancer pathogenesis. Epigenetics alterations in FHIT contributes to tumorigenesis of breast cancer. Objective: Our objective was to study FHIT promoter region hypermethylation in Egyptian breast cancer patients and its association with clinicopathological features. Materials and Methods: Methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction was performed to study the hypermethylation of FHIT promoter region in 20 benign breast tissues and 30 breast cancer tissues. Results: The frequency of hypermethylation of FHIT promoter region was significantly increased in breast cancer patients compared to bengin breast disease patients. The Odd's ratio (95%CI) of development of breast cancer in individuals with FHIT promoter hypermethylation (MM) was 11.0 (1.22-250.8). There were also significant associations between FHIT promoter hypermethylation and estrogen, progesterone receptors negativity, tumor stage and nodal involvment in breast cancer pateints. Conclusions: Our results support an association between FHIT promotor hypermethylation and development of breast cancer in Egyptian breast cancer patients. FHIT promoter hypermethylation is associated with some poor prognostic features of breast cancer.

      • Rare Case: Reinfection of Bronchiectasis Caused by Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus Faecalis with Comorbid Nephrotic Syndrome and Simple Renal Cyst

( Zaki Mahmudi Dasril ),( Roza Kurniati ),( Fauzar ) 대한결핵 및 호흡기학회 2021 대한결핵 및 호흡기학회 추계학술대회 초록집 Vol.129 No.-

Background Enterococcus faecalis is part of commensal flora in human gastrointestinal tract, with pulmonary infections being rare. Their increasing is importance due to their resistance to many antimicrobials, which include the β lactam antibiotics, the aminoglycosides and most importantly, glycopeptides like vancomycin. The authors present a rare case of reinfection bronchiectasis by Vancomycin- Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) with comorbid nephrotic syndrome and simple renal cyst. Methods Case report. Results A 49-year-old woman with diagnosis reinfection of bronchiectasis by Enterococcus faecalis with comorbid nephrotic syndrome and kidney cyst is presented with shortness of breath since 4 days before admission and accompanied with bloody cough. On examination, oxygen saturation was 90% with leukocytosis, shift to the right and lymphopenia. Initially, the patient was suspected of having COVID-19 infection, but the result of PCR swab was negative. On chest X-ray examination, it was getting worse than before, even though only 1 week apart. Patient had isolated sputum examined with the Results Vancomycin- Resistant Enterococcus. The patient previously treated with cefepime because suspicion of Pseudomonas infection with no significant clinical improvement, based on the sensitivity antibiotics test the only that can be used is Ampicillin, so we choose Ampicillin Sulbactam to treat the patient. The clinical improvement from this patient growth slowly because the condition of VRE state and treatment of immunosuppressive therapy for Nephrotic Syndrome. Conclusion The highlight from this case report is considering Enterococcus faecalis as an etiologic agent in case of pulmonary infection that treated without the standard regiment. The regiment standard therapy is using a cell- wall active agent and aminoglycoside. Attaining the best treatment of enterococcus infection is become increasingly difficult because the development of resistance to antibiotics available for this and the term of using immunosuppressive therapy. Ampicillin sulbactam still have promising effect to treat the VRE patient.
