        웹툰 문식성 신장을 위한 국어교육 연구

        본 연구에서는 웹툰이 청소년의 주요 문화 향유 장르로 급부상하였음에 주목하고, 웹툰 문식성 신장을 위한 국어교육 방안을 모색하였다. 웹툰 문식성은 웹툰 장르에 대한 이해를 기반으로 하여 텍스트에 대한 분석적·비판적·심미적 경험을 주체적으로 수행하며 웹툰을 둘러싼 상호작용의 맥락에 적극적으로 참여하는 역량을 의미한다. 웹툰 장르는 책 문화와 멀티미디어 문화의 융합, 조형 예술과 언어 예술의 융합, 장르와 장르들 간의 융합 등 혼종성과 융합성을 주요 특성으로 갖는다. 또한 웹툰은 서사성과 비서사성의 공존, 생산 및 수용 주체 간의 적극적인 상호작용성 및 당대성의 돌출이라는 특성을 드러낸다. 본 연구에서는 웹툰 문식성을 기능적 문식성, 비판적 문식성, 문화적 문식성, 심미적 문식성으로 범주화하여 그 교육적 구체화 방안을 탐색하였다. 본 연구는 학습자의 생활세계를 둘러싼 미디어 문화에 주목하고 그에 대한 교육적 지원을 구상하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. This study noted the emergence of webtoons as a major cultural genre for teenagers and examined ways to promote webtoon literacy among Koreans. Webtoon literacy refers to the ability to actively engage in interactions surrounding webtoons through analytical, critical, and aesthetic experiences of the text, based on the understanding of the genre. Webtoons have hybridity and convergence characteristics such as convergence of book and multimedia cultures, fusion of formative and language art, and fusion between genres. They also show the coexistence of narrative and non-story characteristics, active interaction between production and acceptance aspects, and the expression of contemporaryity. To explore educational specifications, this study structured webtoon literacy into four categories: functional, critical, cultural, and aesthetic. This study is significant as it has focused on the media culture surrounding the learner’s world and conceived educational support for it.

        Linguistic and Social Adjustment of a Korean Student Returnee

          This study investigates how one Korean elementary school child adjusted to a South Korean public school after spending five years abroad in the United States in an English as a Second Language (ESL) situation. It also examines the participant’s individual cultural adjustment to the host country as well as to the home country. Data from the focal child, her mother, father, and sister was collected through interviews that recorded their experiences of two countries that differed linguistically, culturally, and socially. Deprived of familiar support and guidance from peers, returnee students often experience the distress of losing a sense of their past selves. The focal child’s individual narratives also confirm that her sojourn between two countries is not a temporary interruption but a continual negotiation toward understanding various aspects of herself.

        L1 Reading and Writing Skill Transfer to L2 Literacy - A Qualitative Case Study

          This study investigates how one Korean elementary school child accommodates to the English as a Second Language (ESL) situation and what strategies she employs while she adjusts herself to the new linguistic environment. Date from the focal child, her mother, and sister are analyzed into emerging themes. The participant’s stable Korean literacy skills enable her to successfully achieve the English literacy skills. In particular, the focal child transfers her positive attitude toward Korean reading and writing to her extensive English reading and writing. Not only intensive English lessons in classroom but also extensive English literacy exposures outside of classroom play a role in enhancing her L2 acquisition.

      • Prognosis of lymphangitic tumor spread detected on chest CT scan during staging evaluation in patients with non-small cell lung cancer

        Background: Current lung cancer staging system does not provide a definite guideline for lymphangitic tumor spread and it is debatable whether it is included in T or M descriptors. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the prognosis of lymphangitic tumor spread in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: The NSCLC patients with lymphangitic tumor spread detected on chest computed tomography scan during staging evaluation between 2000 and 2016 at Samsung Medical Center were included in the study. The subjects with metastasis (M1a/b/c) or incomplete staging evaluation were excluded. The location and extent of the lesion was classified as same, ipsilateral different and contralateral lobe in relation to the primary tumor. The overall survival (OS) of the subjects were compared with that of the subjects who had lung-to-lung metastasis without distant metastasis. Results: A total of 87 subjects were analyzed and the median age was 60 years. The 5-year OS rates of the subjects with lymphangitic tumor spread (n=87) and lung to lung metastasis (n=111) were 29% and 23%, respectively. The 5-year OS rates of lymphangitic tumor spread in the same (n=37), ipsilateral different (n=31) and contralateral (n=19) lobe were 48%, 19% and 11%, respectively. Compared with patients with lung-to-lung metastasis, those with lymphangitic tumor spread only in the same lobe had better OS (p = 0.027, hazard ratio for death, 0.57; 95% confidence interval, 0.35-0.94). This effect persisted after adjusting for potential confounders including smoking history, tumor histology and nodal stage. Conclusions: The subjects with lymphangitic tumor spread in the same lobe had better OS than those with lymphangitic tumor spread to the ipsilateral different or contralateral lobe or lung-to-lung metastasis. Lymphangitic tumor spread confined to the same lobe of the primary tumor seems to be T descriptor rather than M descriptor.

        A Working-set Sensitive Page Replacement Policy for PCM-based Swap Systems

        Due to the recent advances in Phage-Change Memory (PCM) technologies, a new memory hierarchy of computer systems with PCM is expected to appear. In this paper, we present a new page replacement policy that adopts PCM as a high speed swap device. As PCM has limited write endurance, our goal is to minimize the amount of data written to PCM. To do so, we defer the eviction of dirty pages in proportion to their dirtiness. However, excessive preservation of dirty pages in memory may deteriorate the page fault rate, especially when the memory capacity is not enough to accommodate full working-set pages. Thus, our policy monitors the current working-set size of the system, and controls the deferring level of dirty pages not to degrade the system performances. Simulation experiments show that the proposed policy reduces the write traffic to PCM by 160% without performance degradations.

        Publisher’s Erratum to “Estimation of the External Forces on a Robot Hand with Fingertip Tactile Sensors”

        In human-robot collaboration, physical hand-over-hand communication of the human operator’s intention is essential for realizing direct and intuitive cooperation. When an external force acts on a robot hand holding an object, the torque exerted on the finger motor becomes a combination of the grasping torque required to maintain the grasping pose and reaction torque to the external force. To analyze intended interaction, we need to recognize multiple contacts inside and outside the fingertips. In this study, an external force estimation method was developed that uses tactile sensors to measure both grasping and external forces acting on the fingertips of a robot hand. Because a tactile sensor cannot measure all the external force components, it is impossible to directly compute the magnitude and contact angle of an external force. The shear and frictional forces lost during tactile sensing are backwardly estimated according to the difference between the estimated and measured torques. The magnitude and contact angle are computed to estimate external force, which can be used to determine the intention of the user. Simulations based on real sensor responses and experiments were performed to validate the proposed estimation method.

        Analysis of Memory Access Latency Considering Page Faults and TLB Misses in NVM Storage

        As high performance NVM storage emerges, memory system configurations optimized for HDD should be revisited. This paper explores the performance of memory systems that use NVM as a storage device and discusses how such systems can be managed efficiently. Specifically, we analyze the memory access time separately for address translation latency and data access latency as the page size, read-ahead, and storage performances are varied. As the page fault cost becomes small under NVM storage, we observe that the bottleneck of memory systems can be shifted to address translation. We show that determining an appropriate page size can improve the address translation latency without increasing data access latency. We also show that turning off the read-ahead option is helpful in reducing data access latency. We expect that our new architecture with appropriate configurations will be helpful in the design of emerging memory systems.

        Efficient Management of PCM-based Swap Systems with a Small Page Size

        Due to the recent advances in non-volatile memory technologies such as PCM, a new memory hierarchy of computer systems is expected to appear. In this paper, we explore the performance of PCMbased swap systems and discuss how this system can be managed efficiently. Specifically, we introduce three management techniques. First, we show that the page fault handling time can be reduced by attaching PCM on DIMM slots, thereby eliminating the software stack overhead of block I/O and the context switch time. Second, we show that it is effective to reduce the page size and turn off the read-ahead option under the PCM swap system where the page fault handling time is sufficiently small. Third, we show that the performance is not degraded even with a small DRAM memory under a PCM swap device; this leads to the reduction of DRAM’s energy consumption significantly compared to HDD-based swap systems. We expect that the result of this paper will lead to the transition of the legacy swap system structure of “large memory – slow swap” to a new paradigm of “small memory – fast swap.”

      • Genotypic variation of embryo dent of rice grains

        As the market demand on functionality rice has been increasing, embryo rice in which embryo residue remains even after milling has come to comsumers’ attention because rice embryo contains several functionality components. Consequently, development of rice varieties for higher rate of embryo adhesion to grains after milling has become one of the breeding objectives for quality improvement. In this study, we observed embryo dent of 49 commercial varieties and analyzed the relationship between embryo dent and grain size and shape. Embryo dent of rice grains varied 0.27 (Keunnun)~0.59 (Daerip 1) mm. Varieties Jinbu, Jinbo, Heugseol, Obong, Unkwang, and Cheongnam showed relatively deeper embryo dent, suggesting that they will be applicable in breeding for embryo rice. Embryo dent was correlated positively with grain width (r=0.53**) and grain size(r=0.34*), and negatively with grain width/length ratio (r= -0.38**). Strategies for breeding embryo rice were discussed in relation to embryo dent, grain size and shape.
