Dual-Domain Adaptive Beamformer Under Linearly and Quadratically Constrained Minimum Variance

<P>In this paper, a novel adaptive beamforming algorithm is proposed under a linearly and quadratically constrained minimum variance (LQCMV) beamforming framework, based on a dual-domain projection approach that can efficiently implement a quadratic-inequality constraint with a possibly rank-deficient positive semi-definite matrix, and the properties of the proposed algorithm are analyzed. As an application, relaxed zero-forcing (RZF) beamforming is presented which adopts a specific quadratic constraint that bounds the power of residual interference in the beamformer output with the aid of interference-channel side-information available typically in wireless multiple-access systems. The dual-domain projection in this case plays a role in guiding the adaptive algorithm towards a better direction to minimize the interference and noise, leading to considerably faster convergence. The robustness issue against channel mismatch and ill-posedness is also addressed. Numerical examples show that the efficient use of interference side-information brings considerable gains.</P>
Why Does a Hilbertian Metric Work Efficiently in Online Learning With Kernels?

<P>The autocorrelation matrix of the kernelized input vector is well approximated by the squared Gram matrix (scaled down by the dictionary size). This holds true under the condition that the input covariance matrix in the feature space is approximated by its sample estimate based on the dictionary elements, leading to a couple of fundamental insights into online learning with kernels. First, the eigenvalue spread of the autocorrelation matrix relevant to the hyperplane projection along affine subspace algorithm is approximately a square root of that for the kernel normalized least mean square algorithm. This clarifies the mechanism behind fast convergence due to the use of a Hilbertian metric. Second, for efficient function estimation, the dictionary needs to be constructed in general by taking into account the distribution of the input vector, so as to satisfy the condition. The theoretical results are justified by computer experiments.</P>

Study Design: Prospective cohort imaging study. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate lumbar sagittal alignment and range of motion (ROM) using radiographs in a large asymptomatic cohort and identify sex-based differences and age-related changes in the subjects. Overview of Literature: Several researchers have tried to establish normal alignment and kinematic behavior of the lumbar spine, using plain radiographs. Few studies have employed a large and sex-and age-balanced cohort. Methods: Total 627 healthy volunteers (at least 50 males and 50 females in each age decade, from the 3rd to the 8th decade) underwent whole spine radiography in the standing position; lumbar spine radiography was performed for all subjects in the recumbent position. Lumbar lordosis (LL, T12–S1) and ROM during flexion and extension were measured using a computer digitizer. Results: The mean LL was 36.8°±13.2° in the recumbent position and 49.8°±11.2° in the standing position. The LL was greater in the standing position than in the recumbent position; further, LL was higher in females as compared to that in males. Local lordosis at each disk level increased incrementally with distal progression through the lumbar spine in both the positions. Local lordosis at L4–S1 was 29.8°±8.0° in the recumbent position and 34.2°±8.3° in the standing position and occupied 85.1% and 70.8% of the total LL, respectively. However, local lordosis in the standing position decreased with age at L2–3, L3–4, and L4–5 levels. Total lumbar ROM (T12–S1) decreased with age. The ROM in females was higher than that in males. Conclusions: We established the standard value and age-related changes in the lumbar alignment and ROM in each age decade in asymptomatic subjects. These data will be useful and provide the normal values for comparison in clinical practice to identify sex-based differences and age-related changes.
Discrimination of Motions with Physical Deformation of Muscles and EMG

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the basic upper-limb involved in products manipulation. Upper-limb muscular deformations and electromyography (EMG) measurements are used as indexes for estimated motion: hand opening and closing, wrist extending and flexing, pronation and supination, grasping conditions. Measured values are analyzed by multivariate analysis and a regression equation is obtained for estimating the characteristics of upper-limb performance. Muscular deformation is defined as a change in shape, such as a pressure changes when the hand or wrist moves. hand opening and closing can be discriminated at a higher percentage of accuracy by muscular deformation data than by EMG data. Muscular deformation measurements using air-pack pressure sensors were verified to be effective in motion estimation applications.
European integration through the eyes of ASEAN: Rethinking Eurocentrism in comparative regionalism

In the research field of comparative regionalism, divergent positions on how to frame the EU are a major obstacle to constructing a general theory of regionalism. Put simply, this is the issue of whether or not to treat the EU as a model. However, there has been no systemic study on how non- EU regionalisms have subjectively framed the EU in actuality. Have other regions held the EU as a model? This paper elucidates how ASEAN has perceived European integration and what factors have brought changes to that perception by using a variety of sources. Entering the 1990s, ASEAN came to see the EU as a model for its accelerated movement toward economic integration, also perceiving the need to increase institutionalization. This finding suggests that to call for a break with EU-centrism betrays a somewhat distorted view of actual conditions. Keywords European

This study will examine how the Chinese nationalist party took over Manchurian National Agricultural Testing Site and utilized its engineers in 1945 after the defeat of Japan in World War II. Primarily using materials of Ministry of Agriculture preserved by Taiwan National Central Research Institute, this research will investigate how Japanese engineers were treated and how the agricultural research resumed. Specifically, it will analyze rice breeding, the presenter’s research main area. The civil war occurred, and after Chinese Nationalist party took over the damaged testing site, the research was in the process. It will also discuss research on GongZhuLing(公主嶺) Agricultural testing site in 1948 when the Communist Party took it over.

This paper investigate how Kono cooperative, established in Manchukuo period, had operated. It is found the following results:. 1) Kono cooperative was made in several parts of Manchuria in 1940, but the number of the cooperative was few in a large territory. Since technical training, joint investment, and shipment in this area were limited, Manchukuo became abandon. 2) After the Manchukuo system became collapsed, a majority of the Japanese people returned to Japan and some senior executives of Manchukuo also fled. The business such as the financial industory also fell apart. As a result, the remaining Kono Society in the village could not obtain the latest farming tools, fertilizers, and seeds. However, variety recommendations for joint shipment have remained in the area, which is believed to help focus on commercial crops.

This study aims to explore how China’s Northeast Agricultural Science Research Institute experimented and accepted the Michurin Theory in the 1950s. It also attempts to identify what changes have been made in the research institute.Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin was a respected Russian agricultural researcher. Michurin’s Theory has reflected the ideas of Marx’s materialism in the plant world.Northeast Agricultural Science Research Institute invited this Russian expert to hear the opinions. The Research Institute hosted the workshop between 1952 and 1953 that the participating researchers accepted and used Michurin’s Theory in their research. There were some Japanese researchers at Northeast Agricultural Science Research Institute even before 1945. However, it seemed unlikely that the Research Institute would not need the agricultural knowledge of the Japanese researcher since it actively accepted the Russia’s Theory. This also clearly indicates how the research institute responded to the government’s request.
