        Interdependence between Manufacturing and Service Foreign Direct Investments of Korea

        In a view of constructing global value chains, this study attempts to examine interdependence between the outbound FDIs of the Korean manufacturing and producer service sectors, using panel data from 1996 to 2012. We find that (i) a presence of manufacturing FDIs has a positive effect on new investments in producer service sectors, and (ii) a presence of producer service FDIs also has a positive effect on new investments in manufacturing sectors. Our empirical results imply that Korean multinational firms are expanding their role as headquarter service providers in the world through both manufacturing plants and regional business service subsidiaries.

        Aqueous Synthesis and Photocatalytic Performance of Bi5O7I Microflowers

        Bi5O7I microflowers were synthesized through a simple liquid coprecipitation under alkaline condition at 75 ℃ in an open system without using autoclave or other complex equipment. The addition of NaBr was a key factor for controlling the morphology of Bi5O7I. The assembled Bi5O7I samples are constructed by elementary nanowires, which were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-Vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS) methods. The photocatalytic performance of Bi5O7I samples on rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) was evaluated under 350 W xenon lamp irradiation. On comparison with the blank Bi5O7I microflowers, Bi5O7I microflowers with NaBr addition exhibited better photocatalytic performance, and the photocatalytic activity enhanced with the increase of NaBr amount. The photocatalytic efficiency reached 81.1% in 150 min for RhB, 42.5% in 210 min for MB and 56.3% in 210 min for CIP in the degradation system at pH = 7 without any assistant agent. Trapping experiments were performed to reveal the degradation mechanism of Bi5O7I samples. It was proposed that valid separation of photogenerated electrons and holes in Bi5O7I microflowers led to good catalytic properties.

        Five Cases Report of Solid Tumor Synchronously with Hematologic Malignancy

        The reported incidence of synchronous multiple primary cancer (SMPC) is rare, and it is even less common to observe synchronous solid tumor with a hematological malignancy. We report five cases of solid tumor presented synchronously with hematological malignancy, all observed within a 2 year period at the oncology department of a university hospital in Shanghai, China. These individual cases included lung adenocarcinoma with chronic myelogenous leukemia, colon cancer with solitary plasmocytoma, gastric adenocarcinoma with diffuse large B cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, lung adenocarcinoma with multiple myeloma, and colon cancer with diffuse large B cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It is challenging to therapeutically control the biological behavior of concurrent multiple primary tumors, and there is no standard treatment for such rare conditions. In this paper we discuss these five cases of SMPC and their treatments.

      • STUDY ON REFORM OF CHINESE TOURISM EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

        Up to this moment, education in China is still a planned business, and the Chinese tourism education becomes relatively conservative under such monopolistic educational policy. In addition, the Chinese educational authority tends to weigh a little bit on natural science rather than social science, and prefers theory more than practice. Therefore, neither the subject development nor the students of the tourism management can get a good recognition. Moreover, the teaching combination in China is so weak that only those employed by the school authorities have the rights to stand in front of the students. Due to some special reasons, most of the Chinese tourism management teachers are not in this professional during their studies, that explains why those teachers are lack of related experiences and social networks with the local tourism industry, and this leads to a non-ideal tourism educational result. The writer of this article suggests that, the Chinese tourism institutes have to strengthen the link and cooperation with the industry, and make the "production, learning and study" into a perfect mode. In addition, they have to invite more professionals from tourism industry to come to schools and use those professionals' knowledge and their industrial resources to assist the routine tourism education. At last, leaders of the tourism educational area have to encourage both of the teachers and students to the tourism market frontier, to let them have a clearer picture of the market, and to ask them to examine and study from the industry.

      • IMPLICATION OF THE TOURIST SERVICE PROVIDERS BEHAVIOUR

        To examine the current situation of local Chinese tourist guides, the writers took a field trip of a 4-day Hainan tour and recorded all the episodes of it. Based on the case analysis, the article intends to illustrate the strategy of "Low Price Competition", currently adopted by local Chinese travel agencies, which will cause a fatal damage to the tourism industry in the long run. That is to say, 1) tourist guides' benefit will be directly sacrificed as their wages will be reduced to the price cutting competition; 2) tourist guides being exploited might earn commission and kickbacks from tourists; 3) suffering tourists might lose confidence to travel agencies; and 4) tourists might choose group traveling. At last sales volume of travel agencies will become lesser and the future development will be totally declined. To tackle these problems, the writers suggest that local Chinese travel agencies should rally the salary system of tourist guides and improve their treatment in order to attract and keep up more excellent industrial service providers.

        <P>Porphyrin and subphthalocyaninatoboron(III) chromophores have been fused through a quinoxaline moiety, resulting in the first porphyrin-subphthalocyaninatoboron(III)-fused hybrid with intramolecular charge transfer from tetrapyrrole/tripyrrole chromophores to the quinoxaline moiety. The unique plane-bowl molecular structure of this hybrid was revealed based on single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis for the first time.</P>

      • A Novel and Efficient Wireless Communication System

        This paper aims to construct a novel wireless communication system, in which source signals are transmitted simultaneously in the same frequency band. The transmitted signals are only required to be statistically independent or statistically distinguished. Therefore, the source signals can be recovered at the receiver by utilizing the classical algorithms of blind source separation (BSS) and independent component analysis (ICA) such as the fast fixed-point algorithm (FastICA). On the one hand, because the source signals are transmitted simultaneously in the same frequency band, the spectrum efficiency of this novel system is much higher than those of time division multiplexing (TDM), frequency division multiplexing (FDM), and code division multiplexing (CDM) systems, in which TDM, FDM and CDM signals are limited in time interval, frequency band and code. On the other hand, inspired by recently proposed reference-based schemes, the reference signals are introduced to the classical separation algorithms of BSS and ICA, which makes this novel system much more efficient than classical ones in terms of computational speed. The performance of this new system is validated through realistic experiments. Additionally, it is theoretically shown that the information content of all the source signal inputs can be recovered by this novel wireless communication system.

        A Noisy-Robust Approach for Facial Expression Recognition

        Accurate facial expression recognition (FER) requires reliable signal filtering and the effective feature extraction. Considering these requirements, this paper presents a novel approach for FER which is robust to noise. The main contributions of this work are: First, to preserve texture details in facial expression images and remove image noise, we improved the anisotropic diffusion filter by adjusting the diffusion coefficient according to two factors, namely, the gray value difference between the object and the background and the gradient magnitude of object. The improved filter can effectively distinguish facial muscle deformation and facial noise in face images. Second, to further improve robustness, we propose a new feature descriptor based on a combination of the Histogram of Oriented Gradients with the Canny operator (Canny-HOG) which can represent the precise deformation of eyes, eyebrows and lips for FER. Third, Canny-HOG`s block and cell sizes are adjusted to reduce feature dimensionality and make the classifier less prone to overfitting. Our method was tested on images from the JAFFE and CK databases. Experimental results in L-O-Sam-O and L-O-Sub-O modes demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method. Meanwhile, the recognition rate of this method is not significantly affected in the presence of Gaussian noise and salt-and-pepper noise conditions.
