This study sought to verify the influence of leadership recognized by hotel cooks on their impressions and innovation behaviors to present practical implications related to the correct leadership content of employees. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the study model was established and four research hypotheses were derived. In addition, the survey was conducted for chefs working at five-star hotels in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province for a month from February 1 to February 28, 2020, and the final 268 copies were obtained and the analysis was conducted using the SPSS 25.0 statistical package. The results of the empirical analysis on this are as follows: First, it has been shown that the empathy leadership of cookplaces in hotel companies has a significant positive impact on the impression. Second, it has been shown that impression has a significant positive effect on members' innovation behaviors. Third, the consensus leadership of hotel companies' cookplaces has a significant positive impact on members' innovation behaviors. Fourth, in the relationship between empathy leadership and innovation behavior in cooking places, impression has a significant positive (+) mediating effect. Accordingly, this study establishes a research model of impression for innovative behavior of members in hotel companies, which has implications for effective human resource development of hotel companies.
Repair Strategies Employed by Korean Speakers in Producing English Final Consonant Clusters
Youngshin Lim 한국언어연구학회 2021 언어학연구 Vol.26 No.1
This study attempted to investigate how Korean speakers produce English final consonant clusters by using repair strategies. Based on the preservation principle in interphonology, three main points were examined. The first point focused on the most used repair strategy by Korean speakers, such as deletion, insertion, and substitution. The second point was whether any age difference existed in using repair strategies when pronouncing various final consonant clusters. The third point concentrated on the specific patterns of repair strategies used in certain syllable structures. For the production test, twenty-four target words were pronounced by eight Korean speakers and the data were statistically analyzed by 3-way mixed ANOVA to see if there were any variable interactions. The major findings of the study were exhibited as follows: First, most Korean speakers employed deletion for repair strategies, and the highest error rates were presented in fricative-fricative combined clusters. Second, the younger group made fewer errors in stop-# and nasal-# combined clusters. Third, all kinds of the repair strategies were used in fricative-fricative clusters, and insertion was primarily used by the older group in fricative-stop clusters. According to the findings, it could be assumed that productions of English clusters by the younger group have been in progress by maintaining certain English phonetic features.
Perception of English Tense and Lax Vowels based on the Mechanism of Selective Attention
Youngshin Lim 한국중원언어학회 2021 언어학연구 Vol.- No.59
This study examined how the mechanisms of selective attention operate in perceiving English tense and lax vowels by Korean speakers. Given that each language system differently operates these mechanisms, the study predicted that Korean speakers would show poorer performance in back vowel pairs than the front ones and differently employ the acoustic cue in discriminating those pairs regarding the different vowel duration caused by following contrastive voicing consonants. For this, two different types of perception tests were carried out. The results demonstrated as follows. First, overall correct rates were much higher in the 4I-oddity test than in the identification test, which indicated higher sensitivity to the acoustic signal. Second, back vowel pairs were less accurately perceived than the front ones in the 4I-oddity test with a considerable difference. Third, in terms of voicing contrast following tense and lax vowels, a significant difference was only found in the 4I-oddity test. This finding verified that Korean speakers partially paid enhanced attention to vowel length when acquiring English high back tense and lax vowel contrast.
Young English Learners’ Perception of Multiple Intelligences in a Web-based English Learning
Youngshin Lim 한국중원언어학회 2022 언어학연구 Vol.- No.65
The primary objective of this study is to investigate how Multiple Intelligences (MI) can be applied to English activities and perceived when implemented in EFL web-based learning contexts. To achieve this goal, eleven Korean primary students participated in the five-day online English camp, which was carried out using synchronous and asynchronous methods. The study employed data triangulation from an in-depth individual interview, a questionnaire, and teachers’ reflective journals. The data were processed through content analysis by transcribing data and coding to extract valid inferences. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, participants perceived web-based English activities differently according to their intelligence preferences. Second, participants perceived that web-based MI activities efficiently activate their intelligence with digitalized learning tools and modes and interact with other learners. In contrast, some participants negatively perceived some activities due to their less preferred MI. Third, participants managed their difficulties with various web-based learning modes such as chat boxes and share screens. Pedagogical implications were drawn from this study to activate learners’ various intelligence in the limited personal contact via web-based learning platforms.
Nutrient intakes of infants with atopic dermatitis and relationship with feeding type
Youngshin Han,Youngmi Lee,Haeryun Park,Sunyoung Park,Kyunghee Song 대한지역사회영양학회 2015 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.9 No.1
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The prevalence of atopic dermatitis in infants is increasing worldwide. However, the nutrient intake status of infants with atopic dermatitis has not been studied properly. This study was conducted to compare the nutrient intake status of infants in the weaning period with atopic dermatitis by feeding type. MATERIALS/METHODS: Feeding types, nutrient intake status and growth status of 98 infants with atopic dermatitis from age 6 to 12 months were investigated. Feeding types were surveyed using questionnaires, and daily intakes were recorded by mothers using the 24-hour recall method. Growth and iron status were also measured. RESULTS: The result showed that breastfed infants consumed less energy and 13 nutrients compared to formula-fed or mixed-fed infants (P < 0.001). The breastfed group showed a significantly lower intake rate to the Dietary Reference Intakes for Koreans than the other two groups (P < 0.001). In addition, they consumed less than 75% of the recommended intakes in all nutrients, except for protein and vitamin A, and in particular, iron intake was very low, showing just 18.7% of the recommended intake. There was no significant difference in growth by feeding type, but breastfed infants showed a significantly higher rate of iron deficiency anemia (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Continuous management programs should be prepared for breastfed infants with atopic dermatitis, who are in a period when rapid growth takes place and proper nutrient intake is essential.

This study aims to investigate how Korean elementary EFL learners pronounce English liquids in various contacts across words and see how they utilize two principles of selective application in the acquisition of English liquids concerning gender difference. For this, the study examines the liquids in the onset of the following word which contacts the coda of the preceding word with liquid or nasal phoneme. In the production test, 102 Korean elementary school students read 8 sentences and their recorded data are statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA and three-way mixed ANOVA. The results are as follows. First, there is no significant difference between genders in the overall results of the English liquid production test. Second, despite no significant difference in accurate production, a significant main effect is reported in a repeated mixed ANOVA concerning error types of each contact context. Third, on the basis of pronouncing strategies, the ‘preservation principle’ and L1 phonological rule are differently adapted according to their contact contexts.
