The Fourth Industrial Revolution and China’s Defense Innovation in Intelligent Systems
( Youngjune Chung ),( Shuting Dai ) 한국국방연구원 2022 The Korean Journal of Defense Analysis Vol.34 No.2
In the new era of the U.S.-China strategic rivalry, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is attempting to transform itself into a world class defense unit by constructing a self-organizing system of defense innovation. Translating its global lead in digitization and economic achievements into military power will entail the integration of critical and emerging technology into its existing weapon clusters and processes, the fielding of new and modified equipment, and the reinforcement of industrial applications such as robotics and autonomous vehicles. Building on developments in the PLA’s reform and modernization, this study conducts a systemic examination of China’s intelligentization strategy to prevail in the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR). Hard and soft inputs that shape China’s ecosystem of defense-innovation, including material, financial, and technological inputs, process factors of plans, strategies, and acquisition, and institutional factors have been examined.
MESSAGE TYPE STRATEGY IN CHARITABLE FUNDRAISING
Youngjune Kim,Hakkyun Kim,Hyeonyeong Seo,Hyoseon Lee 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7
In appeals for donations, some charities highlight why their programs are important or abstract meanings that individuals' contributions can have. On the other hand, some other charities highlight how their programs are implemented or specific actions that are to be made. Drawing on construal level theory, we posit that abstract, “why” laden appeals will be more persuasive than concrete, “how” laden appeals when psychological distance (via physical distance) is high (vs. low). One experiment was conducted to test this premise. Specifically, we examined whether the location where the programs of a nonprofit organization were run was far (i.e., a foreign country) or near (i.e., domestically) would moderate the persuasiveness of abstract versus concrete messages. In terms of the procedure, participants were first asked to read a message from a nonprofit organization helping children suffering from rare diseases in their own country or in foreign countries. Then, they indicated the extent to which they were willing to help the nonprofit. To manipulate the message type, we varied the headline as well as the content of the message so as to make on version construed at a low level and the other at a high level. Further, to investigate a moderating role of disease types, we measured the changes in response to when disease names are suggested more specifically due to the variation in the degree of familiarity to the charity subject. The results of this experiment supported our prediction on the fit effect between physical distance and message type. To be specific, when the appeal was for a foreign cause, abstract messages generated a higher willingness to help the nonprofit. Conversely, when the appeal was for a local cause, concrete messages generated a higher willingness to help the nonprofit. These results indicate construal fit effect in a charitable giving context. Furthermore, we investigated a moderating role of disease types given that such fit effects can be stronger among low- (vs. highly) familiarity of disease. We observed a significant three-way interaction involving the degree of familiarity.
Cardiovascular effect of epinephrine in endodontic microsurgery: a review
Jang, Youngjune,Kim, Euiseong The Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry 2013 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.38 No.4
Epinephrine is one of the most widely-used vasoconstrictors in dental treatment including endodontic microsurgery. However, the systemic safety of epinephrine has been in debate for many years because of its potential risk to cause cardiovascular complications. The purpose of this review was to assess the cardiovascular effect of epinephrine use in endodontic microsurgery. Endodontic microsurgery directly applies epinephrine into the bone cavity, and the amount is reported to be much larger than other dental surgeries. Moreover, when considering that systemic potency of intraosseous application is reported to be comparable to intravenous application, the systemic influence of epinephrine could be increased in endodontic microsurgery. Besides, pre-existing cardiovascular complications or drug interactions can enhance its systemic influence, resulting in increased susceptibility to cardiovascular complications. Although clinical studies have not reported significant complications for patients without severe systemic complications, many epinephrine-induced emergency cases are warning the cardiovascular risk related with pre-existing systemic disease or drug interactions. Epinephrine is a dose-sensitive drug, and its hypersensitivity reaction can be fatal to patients when it is related to cardiovascular complications. Therefore, clinicians should recognize the risk, and the usage of pre-operative patient evaluation, dose control and patient monitoring are required to ensure patient's safety during endodontic microsurgery.

This paper analyzes economic feasibility of public prevention of insects and diseases in rice sector using a real option approach. This study covers major rice insects and diseases such as bacterial blight, lugens, and striatellus. We analyzes economic feasibility of public prevention over the area of 500hectare which is the Korea`s average size of county. The sensitivity analysis uncovered that public prevention of bacterial blight is not considered to bean economically feasible investment. However, public prevention of other insects and diseases such as blast, lugens, striatellus was found to be an economically feasible investment. The sensitivity analysis also showed that the costs of prevention are vital factors in public prevention investment.

Magnetic molecules physisorbed into low-dimensional nanostructures of microporous materials such as graphite and metal-organic frameworks have been verified to exhibit an unusual magnetic behavior. We demonstrate that the selective injection of both magnetic and nonmagnetic guest molecules into the water-ice cages of clathrate hydrates to form a 3D superstructure with tetrahedral and diamond-like sublattices can modify the inherent magnetism.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to identify the volumetric alterations of the amygdala and their association with geriatric subclinical depression. Method Eighteen and 19 subjects aged 65 and above were recruited for the subclinical depression and the control group, respectively. Subclinical depression was defined by a cut-off value of 8 points on the Short Geriatric Depression Scale and no diagnosis of clinical psychiatric disorders. Participants of both groups must have normal cognitive functions assessed using Mini-Mental Status Examination. T1-weighted magnetic resonance images were acquired using 3T magnetic resonance imaging scanner. Volumes of bilateral amygdala and their nuclei, and lateralization indexes were determined using FreeSurfer(version 7.1.1). Statistical methods of Mann-Whitney U test, and Analysis of Covariance were used. Results Volumes of the left and right amygdala were smaller in the geriatric subclinical depression group compared to the control group(p≤0.048). There were significant volume reductions in left lateral nucleus, left anterior amygdaloid area, right lateral nucleus, right basal nucleus, right accessory basal nucleus, right anterior amygdaloid area, right cortical nucleus and right paralaminar nucleus(p≤0.034). Conclusion Various regions of amygdala nuclei which are known to be associated with emotional processing were smaller in size in the group of geriatric subclinical depression. Further studies are warranted to identify the neurophysiological factors that provoke the amygdala volume reduction in geriatric subclinical depression.
