        In this report, we present a case of the male pseudohermaphrodite in a beagle dog. The animal was subjected for examination due to enlargement of clitoris that was shown as reddish finger-like structure protruding from the vulva. Visual examination of the internal genitalia revealed that the animal possessed both testes and uterus. Based on the findings of physical examination and exploratory laparotomy, it was tentatively diagnosed as male pseudohermaphrodite. Internal genitalia and enlarged clitoris were removed for the prevention of pyometra and Sertoli cell tumor.

        일제강점기 조선불교단(朝鮮佛敎團)의 연원과 사적(史的) 변천 ― 조선불교단 임원진의 구성과 이력을 중심으로

        본고는 1920년대 일제 文化政治期의 대표적인 親日 불교단체인 朝鮮佛敎團의 창립과정과 변천 등을 고찰하고 또 그것과 연관된 佛敎振興會와 佛敎擁護會의 설립과 성격 등을 다루었다. 이 글은 1925년에 출범한 조선불교단이 그 전신이 되는 朝鮮佛敎大會는 물론이고, 1910년대의 불교진흥회와 불교옹호회와도 깊이 연계되어 있음을 규명하고자 하였다. 특히 본고에서는 조선불교단 임원진의 구성과 이력을 중심으로 이 단체의 친일적 성향과 특성, 그리고 역사적 의미 등을 중점적으로 고찰하였다. 조선불교대회의 후신인 조선불교단은 불교진흥회를 연원으로 하면서 불교옹호회를 승계한 친일 성향의 불교단체였다고 할 수 있다. 이것은 조선불교단과 불교옹호회 두 단체에서 모두 주요 임원으로 활동한 李完用·李允用 형제, 韓昌洙, 權重顯 등을 통해서 명확히 드러난다. 또한 일본인 고바야시 겐로쿠(小林源六), 나카무라 겐타로(中村健太郞) 등은 조선불교단의 주요 임원으로서 중요한 역할을 하였다. 1929년 10월에 개최된 조선불교대회는 조선불교단의 성격이나 특징을 극명히 드러낸 행사로서 조선인에게 皇國臣民 의식을 심어주는가 하면, 식민통치의 정당성을 확보하고자 한 의도를 담고 있었다. 1930년 이후 조선불교단은 별다른 활동을 하지 않고 침체기로 접어들었다. 그러나 조선불교단은 1945년 해방 직후에도 해산되지 않고 사회구호단체의 일원으로 활동한 기록이 보인다. This paper examines the establishment and transition of Chosun Buddhist Association, a representative parent-Buddhist organization in Japan during the 1920s, and the establishment and nature of Buddhist Promotion Association and Buddhist Advocacy Association. This article intends to clarify that the Chosun Buddhist Association that was launched in 1925 is deeply connected with the Buddhist Promotion Association and the Buddhist Advocacy Association in 1910 as well as the Chosun Buddhist Assembly in its predecessor. In particular, this article focuses on the organization and history of the Chosun Buddhist Association, focusing on the pro-Japanese tendencies, characteristics, and historical meaning of the group. The Chosun Buddhist Association after the Chosun Buddhist Conference was a pro-Japanese Buddhist organization that inherited the Buddhist Advocacy Association after the Buddhist Promotion Association. This is evident through Lee Yan-yong(李完用), Lee Yoon-yong(李允用)`s brother, Han Chang-soo(韓昌洙), and Kwon Jung-hyun(權重顯), both of whom served as chief officers in both the Chosun Buddhist Association and the Buddhist Advocacy Association. And Kobayashi Genroku(小林源六) and Nakamura Gentaro(中村健太郞) also played an important role as chief officers of the Chosun Buddhist Association. The Chosun Buddhist Assembly, held in October 1929, marked the character and characteristics of the Chosun Buddhist Association. It contained the intention of planting the Japanese emperor`s servant to the Korean people and securing the legitimacy of colonial rule. Since 1930, the Chosun Buddhist Association has entered a period of stagnation without much activity. However, the Chosun Buddhist Association has not been disbanded even after liberation in 1945, but has been recorded as a member of a social relief group.

      • 급성전골수성백혈병에서 백혈구성분채집술에 이은 치명적인 뇌출혈 2예

        The aim of this study is to report 2 cases of acute promyelocytic leukemia who died from intracranial hemorrhage following leukapheresis and to provide proper preventive measures against hemorrhage following leukapheresis. From 1994 to 1997, a total of twenty-six patients with leukemia underwent leukapheresis to control hyperleukocytosis at Ajou University Hospital. Two patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia received all-trans retinoic acid but developed drug-induced hyperleukocytosis. Shortly after leukapheresis, they died from intracranial hemorrhage. The risk factors for fatal hemorrhage are thought to be coexisting disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIC), thrombocytopenia aggravated by leukapheresis, exacerbated coagulopathy related to mechanical trauma through leukapheresis and the excess use of citrate during leukapheresis. To reduce the risk of the bleeding associated with leukapheresis, it is necessary to replace platelet sufficiently before and after leukapheresis and to give calcium to correct coagulopathy induced by excess citrate which is used as anticoagulant as well as the correction of disseminated intravascular coagulation.

        코로나19 대응 거버넌스의 성공 요인에 관한 탐색적 연구: 성과중심적 거버넌스 모형을 활용하여

        본 연구는 코로나19 방역 모범국이라는 평가를 받는 한국의 코로나19 대응 전략 및 성공 요인을 살펴보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 코로나19 감염병은 사회재난 중 하나로 정부가 중심이 되는 공공거버넌스의 영역이라고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 공공거버넌스 유형 중 하나인 성과중심적 거버넌스 모형을 활용하여 코로나19 방역의 성과(확진자와 사망자의 통제 가능 여부)에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 탐색적으로 분석한다. 분석결과 거버넌스 맥락, 정권, 행정적 준비단계, 성과향상 실행메커니즘에 포함되는 다양한 요인들이 한국의 코로나19 방역의 성과에 이바지한 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 살펴보면, 첫째, 거버넌스 맥락 차원에서 2015년 메르스 대응실패 이후 이루어진 법령 개정, 중앙집권체계, 정보통신기술발달 등 방역 활동에 우호적인 외부환경 요소들이 방역의 성과향상에 기여하였다. 둘째, 정권 차원에서 방역당국에 대한 대통령의 적극적 지원과 범정부적 조직/인사/예산지원은 방역당국이 효과적으로 방역에 집중할 수 있도록 하는 밑거름이 되었다. 셋째, 행정적 준비단계 차원에서 구체적으로 마련된 표준운영절차(SOP)와 담당자에 대한 교육/훈련을 통한 역량 강화는 방역 일선 담당자들의 일사불란한 대처를 가능하게 했다. 넷째, 성과향상 실행메커니즘 차원에서 방역당국은 주어진 상황 및 여건에 맞춘 적절한 대비를 하였을 뿐만 아니라 신속한 진단검사 및 역학조사를 통해 확진자를 조기 발견하여 적시에 감염병 확산을 차단할 수 있었다. 결론적으로 피해복구 단계를 제외한 예방, 대비, 대응 단계에서 적절한 조치가 이루어졌고, 이로 인해 비록 미흡한 점이 일부 있기는 하나 한국의 코로나19 방역이 어느 정도 성공적으로 작동하였다고 볼 수 있다. South Korea is being evaluated by global media and experts for its successful response to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The purpose of this study is to examine the Korean government’s response strategy and success factors for COVID-19 using the performancebased/managerial governance model which was presented by Kong & Yoon(2018b). It found that various factors, such as governance context, governance regime, pre-governance and execution mechanisms, all together contributed to South Korea’s success in responding to COVID-19. These findings can be considered to be of theoretical significance in that they expanded the applicability of the public governance model proposed by Kong & Yoon. In addition, the case of South Korea, which has harmoniously achieved the two conflicting goals of controlling infectious disease and minimizing economic damage, provides many practical implications for how other countries should cope in the future.

        고온 접촉식 탐상용 초음파 탐촉자 개발 및 평가

        고온(500℃) 환경에서 접촉식 탐상이 가능한 초음파 탐촉자를 개발하고 평가하였다. 고온용 탐촉자는 Curie 온도가 600 ℃ 이상인 bismuth titanate 계열의 압전세라믹 소자, 텅스텐 분말과 inorganic binder를 혼합한 후면재, 알루미나 튜브, 전면재, 하우징 등으로 구성되었다. 기본 공진주파수가 각각 1.04 및 2.08 ㎒의 2 종류 탐촉자를 제작하였으며 각종 고온용 커플런트의 온도특성을 시험하였다. 개발된 고온용 탐촉자를 이용하여 강재 시편을 대상으로 시편에서의 초음파 반사신호를 측정한 결과 시편의 온도가 증가함에 따라 반사신호의 크기는 감소하였다. 고온에서 반복측정 실험결과 500℃에서 연속적인 접촉식 초음파 탐상이 가능한 것으로 나타났다. Piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers for high temperature contact measurement were developed. These high temperature ultrasonic transducers (HTUT) consisted of bismuth titanate piezoceramic element whose Curie temperature is higher than 600℃, a backing material of the mixture of tungsten powder and inorganic binder, an inner alumina tube, a wear plate and a housing. The operational frequencies of the HTUT were 1.04 and 2.08 ㎒, respectively. Various commercially available couplant for high temperature were evaluated and compared. As a couplant for high temperature ultrasonic testing between HTUT and test specimen, gold epoxy was selected. The peak amplitude of pulse-echo signals from steel test specimen decreased with increasing temperature. The operational temperature of the HTUT reached up to 500℃ at which the continuous contact measurement was possible.

        Purification and Characterization of Thermostable β-Glucosidase from the Brown-Rot Basidiomycete Fomitopsis palustris Grown on Microcrystalline Cellulose

        An extracellular β-glucosidase was purified 154-fold to electrophoretic homogeneity from the brown-rot basidiomycete Fomitopsis palustris grown on 2.0% microcrystalline cellulose. SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis gel gave a single protein band and the molecular mass of purified enzyme was estimated to be approximately 138 kDa. The amino acid sequences of the proteolytic fragments determined by nano-LC- MS/MS suggested that the protein has high homology with fungal β-glucosidases that belong to glycosyl hydrolase family 3. The Kms for p-nitorophenyl-β-D-glucoside (p-NPG) and cellobiose hydrolyses were 0.117 and 4.81 mM, and the Kcat values were 721 and 101.8 per sec, respectively. The enzyme was competitively inhibited by both glucose (Ki= 0.35 mM) and gluconolactone (Ki= 0.008 mM), when p-NPG was used as substrate. The optimal activity of the purified β-glucosidase was observed at pH 4.5 and 70°C. The F. palustris protein exhibited half-lives of 97 h at 55°C and 15 h at 65°C, indicating some degree of thermostability. The enzyme has high activity against p-NPG and cellobiose but has very little or no activity against p-nitrophenyl-β-lactoside, p-nitrophenyl-β-xyloside, p-nitrophenyl-α-arabinofuranoside, xylan, and carboxymethyl cellulose. Thus, our results revealed that the β-glucosidase from F. palustris can be classified as an aryl- β-glucosidase with cellobiase activity.

        Background & Object : Dyspepsia for which no organic causes are disclosed is referred to as functional dyspepsia. Functional dyspepsia is here studied in connection with a biopsychosocial model. From the aspect of individual response to external environment, in connection with stress response, functional dyspepsia is studied by both the psychology department and the internal medicine departments. The disease is taken as approachable from the aspect of internal injury due to seven emotions and stress as differentiated by Oriental medicine. Materials and Methods : Targeted at 223 patients underwent medical checks and endoscopy at Kangnam Korean Hospital, Kyunghee University. They agreed to join this clinical experiment. Stress response inventory, GARS (global assessment of recent stress scale), GSRS (gastrointestinal symptom rating scale), diagnostic scores for Ki-depression, and Spleen Disease Differentiation of Syndromes were all measured and evaluated. The test group was comprised of functional dyspepsia patients. The control group was comprised of nonsymptomatic chronic gastritis patients who were found to suffer from chronical gastritis in endoscopy and thus could be diagnosed with functional dyspepsia if symptoms would arise, but did not complain of subjective symptoms. Results showed these corelations: Functional dyspepsia patients were found to have more serious Ki-depression compared to nonsymptomatic chronic gastritis patients. The more serious Ki-depression the more serious the dyspepsia symptoms. The higher the stress response inventory the more serious the dyspepsia. Deficiency of spleen Eum, and Deficiency and Sinking of spleen Gi were found to coincide with serious Ki-depression.

        Gintonin facilitates catecholamine secretion from the perfused adrenal medulla

        The present study was designed to investigate the characteristics of gintonin, one of components isolated from Korean Ginseng on secretion of catecholamines (CA) from the isolated perfused model of rat adrenal gland and to clarify its mechanism of action. Gintonin (1 to $30{\mu}g/ml$), perfused into an adrenal vein, markedly increased the CA secretion from the perfused rat adrenal medulla in a dose-dependent fashion. The gintonin-evoked CA secretion was greatly inhibited in the presence of chlorisondamine ($1{\mu}M$, an autonomic ganglionic bloker), pirenzepine ($2{\mu}M$, a muscarinic $M_1$ receptor antagonist), Ki14625 ($10{\mu}M$, an $LPA_{1/3}$ receptor antagonist), amiloride (1 mM, an inhibitor of $Na^+/Ca^{2+}$ exchanger), a nicardipine ($1{\mu}M$, a voltage-dependent $Ca^{2+}$ channel blocker), TMB-8 ($1{\mu}M$, an intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ antagonist), and perfusion of $Ca^{2+}$-free Krebs solution with 5mM EGTA (a $Ca^{2+}$chelater), while was not affected by sodium nitroprusside ($100{\mu}M$, a nitrosovasodialtor). Interestingly, LPA ($0.3{\sim}3{\mu}M$, an LPA receptor agonist) also dose-dependently enhanced the CA secretion from the adrenal medulla, but this facilitatory effect of LPA was greatly inhibited in the presence of Ki 14625 ($10{\mu}M$). Moreover, acetylcholine (AC)-evoked CA secretion was greatly potentiated during the perfusion of gintonin ($3{\mu}g/ml$). Taken together, these results demonstrate the first evidence that gintonin increases the CA secretion from the perfused rat adrenal medulla in a dose-dependent fashion. This facilitatory effect of gintonin seems to be associated with activation of LPA- and cholinergic-receptors, which are relevant to the cytoplasmic $Ca^{2+}$ increase by stimulation of the $Ca^{2+}$ influx as well as by the inhibition of $Ca^{2+}$ uptake into the cytoplasmic $Ca^{2+}$ stores, without the increased nitric oxide (NO). Based on these results, it is thought that gintonin, one of ginseng components, can elevate the CA secretion from adrenal medulla by regulating the $Ca^{2+}$ mobilization for exocytosis, suggesting facilitation of cardiovascular system. Also, these findings show that gintonin might be at least one of ginseng-induced hypertensive components.

        Microsporum (M.)canis 감염은 애완용으로 기르는 고양이나 개가 주된 감염원이며 두부 백선, 안면백선 및 체부 백선 등의 피부질환을 일으킨다. 특히 M. canis 가족감염예는 M. canis 감염증중 비교적 드물다. 저자들은 전형적인 임상 및 균학적 양상을 보인 고양이로부터 감염된 M. canis 가족예를 경험하고 문헌고찰과 함께 보고한다. Microsporum canis Infections Occurring in a Family Departments of Dermatology & Clinical Pathology, College of Medicine, Dongguk University Moo Kyu Suh M.D., Yeol Oh Sung M.D., Ki Seong Yoon M.D., Gyoung Yim Ha M.D." We report a case of Microsporum (M.) canis infections occurring in a family. The mother, a son and a daughter had multiple, wen defined, round, scaly erythematous patches on the scalp & face, face & trunk, and face & chest respectively. Culture from skin lesion of patients and an infected kitten on Sabouraud dextrose agar showed M. canis. After 15 days to one month administration of itraconazole, the lesins healed leaving a slight hypopigmentation.

        현행 중등학교 과학 실험 , 실습 교육 실태 조사 및 그 운영 진단 (Ⅱ) : 고등학교 과학 실험 , 실습 교육을 중심으로

        본 연구는 96년도에 실시한 우리 나라 중학교 과학 실험·실습 교육의 실태 조사 연구에 따른 계속 연구의 일환으로 고등학교 과학 실험·실습 교육의 실태를 조사하기 위한 것이다. 연구내용은 고등학교 과학 교과서의 분석, 실험·실습 실시 현황 분석, 현행 실험·실습 교육의 문제점 분석, 현행 학교 구성원들의 실험·실습 교육 운영 실태 조사 및 현행 실험·실습 교육의 개선을 위한 연구과제 도출을 주요 연구내용으로 다루었다. 연구방법은 전국의 고등학교 80개교를 대상으로 이들 학교의 학생 1,977명, 교사 165명, 학교장 80명에게 적용하였다. 본 연구에서 밝혀진 결과를 중심으로 우리 나라 고등학교 과학 실험 실습 교육의 정상화를 위한 실험 내적인 연구과제를 제시하면 다음과 같다. (1)교재 개발에 대한 연구, (2)실험 킷트 개발에 대한 연구, (3)교사교육 및 재교육 프로그램 개발에 대한 연구, (4)교실 밖 실험·실습 활동 프로그램 개발에 대한 연구, (5)과학 실험·실습 소재의 개발에 대한 연구. This study was accomplished to analysis and survey on the experimental and practical science education of high school in korea for the consecutive study of the an analysis and survey on the experimental and practical science education of middle school in korea(Lee, Yoon-Jong et al., 1997). The status of facilities, management for the experiment, practices, teaching methods in high schools have been investigated. The present status and reasonable management of the high school science education have been grasped from the questionaires. To do this 165 high school science teachers, 1977 students and 80 principals of high schools in Korea are administered questionaires of Science Education Research Institute of Kyungpook National University(1997). The results of this study are as follows : The reasonable management for experiments and practices of science education were scanty in the high school around the urban and rural school owing to the shortage of facilities and equipments, crowded class, excessive class works for teacher, excessive contents of present textbooks and insufficiency of the administrative supports etc. The current teaching method of high school science has emphasized knowledge. This fact does not satisfy the objective of learning due to lack of the teaching method. Desirable directions for the improvement of present status of high school science education were proposed in this paper.
