        Cloning and Characterization of an Annexin Gene from Cynanchum komarovii that Enhances Tolerance to Drought and Fusarium oxysporum in Transgenic Cotton

        A novel plant annexin, CkANN, was isolated from Cynanchum komarovii. Sequence analysis showed that CkANN contained four conserved exdonexin fold regions, a putative peroxidase heme binding motif and two S3 clusters. Real-time PCR analysis indicated that the CkANN mRNAwas abundant in leaf, flower, root and stem and that its level is highest in leaf and flower. The transcription level of CkANN was increased significantly following stress by salicylic acid (SA), methyl jasmonate (MeJA), abscisic acid (ABA), NaCl, PEG 6000 (polyethylene glycol) and H_2O_2. Over-expression of CkANN in transgenic cotton caused a significant increase in tolerance to drought and led to higher levels of proline and soluble carbohydrates compared to wild-type (WT) plants. In response to drought,the transgenic plants also displayed higher total chlorophyll levels and reduced accumulation of thiobarbituric acidreactive substances (TBARS) compared to WT plants. Furthermore, the transgenic cotton showed enhanced resistance to Fusarium oxysporum via increased total peroxidase activity and induction of the expression of some pathogenesis-related proteins. In conclusion, this study has demonstrated that C. komarovii CkANN is involved in drought tolerance and disease resistance and therefore may contribute significantly to the development of drought- or disease-resistant crops.

        Glycyrrhetic acid monoglucuronide: sweetness concentration–response and molecular mechanism as a naturally high-potency sweetener

        Glycyrrhetic acid monoglucuronide (GAM) isobtained from the natural sweetener glycyrrhizin throughenzymolysis. Its sweetness concentration–response (C–R)behavior in room-temperature in water was determinedusing two-alternative forced choice discrimination tests. The C–R equation of resultant hyperbolic curve relatingsucrose equivalent (SE, %) to GAM concentration([GAM], mg/L) was SE = 19.6 9 [GAM]/(194.8 ? [GAM]). From the C–R function, Pw (2) ofGAM, relative to a 2% (w/v) sucrose reference, is morethan 900, which has much higher potency than its precursorglycyrrhizin. Molecular modeling showed that GAM isfinely bound into protein 1EWK through conventionalhydrogen bonds, p-Alkyl interactions and Van der Waalsbonds, which exhibited better protein inclusion than Glycyrrhizin.         LIGHT PROPAGATING IN METAL SUB-WAVELENGTH-HOLE ARRAYS

        We investigate the light propagating through a sub-wavelength-hole array in a thin gold film. The extraordinary light transmission (ELT) of the metallic array is observed. This ELT is due to the localized plasmon polaritons, whose production are dependent on the polarization of the light, the periodicity of the array, the features of the hole, and the thickness of the gold film. These parameters of the metallic structures are investigated through the finite difference time domain method. It is possible to obtain a desired transmission spectrum from the sub-wavelength-hole array by designing these parameters.

        Incentive Mechanism Design for Heterogeneous Networking Routing

        In the future, an increasing number of heterogeneousnetworks will be connected with each other. Each of them has itsown interest. Existing systems lack good incentive mechanisms toattract more networks to participate in cooperations. In this paper,we design an auction-based incentive mechanism for routing protocolsapplied in heterogeneous networking which is computationallyefficient, individually rational, profitable, and truthful. Throughseveral simulations, we evaluate the performance and validate theproperties of our mechanism.

        동북아 국제복합운송 전망과 통과운송 협약의 추진방안 연구

        이 연구는 동북아 지역의 국제복합운송의 현황과 전망을 분석하고 지역내 통과운송 협약의 필요성과 추진방안을 검토하였다. 이 연구에 따르면, 동북아 국가들간 교역확대와 경제협력 긴밀화에 따라 국제복합운송과 통과운송이 지역내 혹은 지역과 타 경제권간 활발하게 전개되어 왔으며, 향후에는 더욱 확산될 것으로 보인다. 동북아 주요 국가들인 중국, 러시아 등은 육상운송에서 국제복합운송경로를 주도하기 위해, 내륙 국가들과 통과운송 협약을 체결하는 등 역내 물류협력을 강화하여 왔다. 이 연구는 동북아 국가들의 국제복합운송과 통과운송에 대한 수요증가, 물류기기와 장비의 확보와 운영, 새로이 부각되는 환경문제 등을 동북아 국가들이 공동적으로 대처할 것을 지적하는 한편 유엔해양법 협약에 기초한 통과운송에 대한 지역적 국제협약의 필요성을 제시한다. This research addresses the prospect of international intermodal transport in North-East Asia and studies the necessity of an agreement in transit transport in the region. Due to the division of labour among countries in the region and the globalization of firm’s activities, international intermodal transport has been actively developed and is expected to grow continually. In order to lead the operation of international intermodal transport in North-East Asia, main players such as China and Russia have strengthened cooperation of regional logistics and made agreements in transit transport with contiguous countries. After analysing the current situation and reviewing prospects of international intermodal transport and transit transport in North-East Asia, this research proposes the requirement of regional agreement of transit transport on the basis of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) for promoting international intermodal transport in North-East Asia.

        몽골의 통과운송 안정화를 위한 주변국과 국제협력 개선방안

        중국과 러시아에 둘러쌓인 내륙국 몽골은 그동안 유럽과 아시아 국가들과 교역을 다양화하려 추진하여 왔다. 2009년 이후의 지속적 광물자원 가격의 상승은 몽골이 교역을 다양화하고 확대하는 데 도움이 되어 왔다. 그럼에도 불구하고,중국과 러시아를 통과하는 데 국경에서 규제와 장애는 다양하며 복잡하다. 또한 몽골에서 중국과 러시아 항만까지 거리는 각기 1700km와 3800km로 몽골 수출입화물 운송에 고물류비 부담을 초래하고 있다. 이 연구는 몽골 광물자원의 효율적 물류체계에 대한 통과운송의 문제와 장애들을 논의한 후 통과운송을 개선하는 데 필요한 국제복합운송에 대한 제안과 국제협력 방안을 제시한다. 몽골은 천진항 경유 경로 외에 다른 국제복합운송 경로를 모색해야 하며. 장비의 확보를 위한 국제협의체 구성, 국경통과시 통과절차의 개선, 새로운 국제복합운송 경로의 재무적 타당성 제고를 추진해야 한다. Mongolia as a land-locked country, has tried to diversify its foreign trade with European and Asian countries. Recently continual price rise of mineral resources also helps Mongolia have chances to gain her trading partners. Nevertheless, regulations and barriers to exports of Mongolian mineral resources in China and Russia, which are transit countries, are complex and complicated in border crossing and transshipment procedures for transit transport. This paper discusses problems and barriers to economic and efficient logistics systems and transit transport of Mongolian mineral resources, and addresses a proposal of international intermodal transport corridors for improving transit transport, and suggests international cooperation, by applying transit rights of land-locked country. Specifically, it is necessary for Mongolia to search for other international intermodal corridors besides the corridor through the port of Tianjin. It is needed to build an international organization for discussion of affirmation of logistics equipments and improvement of transit procedure in border crossing, and to raise financial feasibility in building a new intermodal corridor.
