Transport of Runaway Electrons in Sawtooth Active Plasmas in the HT-7 Tokamak

The magnetic fluctuation level is an important parameter in lower hybrid current-drive (LHCD) plasmas because LHCD has been used to improve plasma performance extensively in the HT-7 tokamak. We investigate the transport of runaway electrons in LHCD plasmas with strong sawteeth in the HT-7 tokamak. A delay time was found to exist between the peak of the soft X-ray sawteeth and the peak of the hard X-ray flux. Based on the delay time, we obtained the transport coefficient of the runaway electrons and the averaged magnetic fluctuation level in sawtooth activity of the plasmas. We found that the diffusion coefficient of the runaway electrons was on the order of <i>D<sub>r</sub></i> ∼ 1 m<sup>2</sup>s<sup>−1</sup> and that the magnetic fluctuation level was on the order of <i>˜b</i> ∼ 10<sup>−6</sup>.

This paper begins with a brief historic review of political translation in China but its main concern is with investigating the impact of two English renditions of a text authored by a Chinese leader and widely publicised in China. One rendition had been produced for a ‘journalistic’ purpose and is seen as ‘faulty’. The other had been produced by ‘accuracy-minded’ translators and is seen as the official ‘correct’ version. The investigation was designed to address three questions. Question 1 was whether the two translations impacted differently. Question 2 was, if and where they did evoke significantly different responses, which one received a more positive response. Question 3 was on what basis the respondents formed their assessments. A number of surprise findings emerged, providing cause and evidence for reflections on some of the familiar claims made about translation.
Adsorption Behavior and Mechanism of Tripolyphosphate on Synthetic Goethite

In order to study the transport behavior of tripolyphosphate (TPP) in aqueous solutions, the adsorption process of TPP on synthetic goethite, which exists stably in supergene environment, has been systematically studied. The adsorption properties under different conditions (pH, electrolyte presence, and temperature) were investigated. The adsorption of TPP in the presence of humic acid (HA)/fulvic acid (FA) has also been discussed in this paper. The results indicated that the adsorption capacity quickly increased within the first hour and equilibrium was reached within 24 h. The adsorption capacity decreased from 1.98 to 0.27 mg·g<sup>-1</sup> upon increasing the pH from 8.5 to 11.0, whereas the adsorption of TPP on goethite hardly changed with increasing electrolyte concentration. The results of analysis of the kinetic and isothermal models showed that the adsorption was more in accord with the pseudo second-order equation and Freundlich model. The adsorption capacity decreased obviously regardless of the order of addition of TPP, HA, and goethite. Subsequent addition of FA led to a large increase in the adsorption capacity, which might be attributed to the adsorption ability of FA. According to the predictions of the kinetic and isothermal models and the spectroscopic evidence (X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM)), the adsorption mechanism may be mainly based on surface complexation and physical adsorption.

Background: Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that is caused by a shift in the Th1/Th2 balance toward Th1- dominant immunity. It has been established as an effective treatment to counteract psoriasis by subcutaneous injection of recombinant interleukin (IL)-4, and IL-4 gene therapy by topical transdermal penetration has shown its antipsoriatic effect in mice. Retinoic acid (RA) and dimethylsulfoxide can increase the efficiency of gene transfection in the topical transdermal delivery system. Objective: We investigated whether RA could improve anti-psoriasis efficiency using IL-4 expression plasmid pORF-mIL-4 (pIL-4) via transdermal delivery system in K14-vascular endothelial growth (K14- VEGF) factor transgenic mice. Methods: After pretreatment with RA, plasmid pIL-4 in 10% dimethylsulfoxide was applied to the ear skin by topical transdermal penetration. Hematoxylin- eosin staining and immunohistochemistry were performed with ear samples to evaluate anti-psoriasis efficiency in mice. Results: The psoriasis pathological features were relieved and psoriasis-associated factors were significantly reduced. Conclusion: Our results reveal that topical application of pIL-4 in dimethylsulfoxide by transdermal delivery with RA pretreatment can improve psoriasis significantly.(Ann Dermatol 27(2) 121∼127, 2015)

The trapping of runaway electrons into local magnetic mirrors in a toroidal magnetic field has been observed in slide away discharges in the HT-7 tokamak. When the discharges went into the slide-away region with Parail-Pogutse instabilities, strong oscillations in the hard X-ray flux and in the electron cyclotron emission are observed. The runaway electrons are trapped into the local magnetic mirrors when they are pitch angle scattered by the anomalous Doppler resonance effect.
