3D Mesh Model Exterior Salient Part Segmentation Using Prominent Feature Points and Marching Plane

In computer graphics, 3D mesh segmentation is a challenging research field. This paper presents a 3D mesh model segmentation algorithm that focuses on removing exterior salient parts from the original 3D mesh model based on prominent feature points and marching plane. To begin with, the proposed approach uses multi-dimensional scaling to extract prominent feature points that reside on the tips of each exterior salient part of a given mesh. Subsequently, a set of planes intersect the 3D mesh; one is the marching plane, which start marching from prominent feature points. Through the marching process, local cross sections between marching plane and 3D mesh are extracted, subsequently, its corresponding area are calculated to represent local volumes of the 3D mesh model. As the boundary region of an exterior salient part generally lies on the location at which the local volume suddenly changes greatly, we can simply cut this location with the marching plane to separate this part from the mesh. We evaluated our algorithm on the Princeton Segmentation Benchmark, and the evaluation results show that our algorithm works well for some categories.

Fabricating Cu2O-CuO submicron-cubes for efficient catalytic CO oxidation: The significant effect of heterojunction interface

In this work, the uniform Cu2O submicron-cubes were facilely synthesized by liquid phase reductionmethod. Then, the Cu2O submicron-cubes were further oxidized into Cu2O-CuO heterojunction with tunableCu2+/Cu+ ratios and CuO submicron-cubes by controlling the calcination temperature. The phasetransition period during calcination was real-time monitored by the in-situ XRD and in-situ DRIFTS. The obtained materials were investigated as the catalysts of CO oxidation. The results revealed thatthe Cu2O-CuO heterojunction catalysts performed much higher catalytic activities than the Cu2O andCuO counterparts. Because the synergistic effect of the heterojunction (Cu2+/Cu+) could increase the surfaceoxygen vacancy concentration. Furthermore, it was also found that only the Cu2O-CuO heterojunctionstructure with the appropriate Cu2+/Cu+ ratio behaved the optimum catalytic activity. The kineticstudies indicated that the apparent activation energy of CO oxidation was greatly affected by the Cu2+/Cu+ ratio. Therefore, these Cu2O-CuO submicron-cubes with heterostructure were considered as thepromising CO oxidation catalysts.

“We Found Ourselves” – Music and Identity among the Chinese American Diaspora in Miami

Chinese American communities have been part of the United States since the 19th century. Currently, their high rate of immigration has made Chinese Americans one of the country’s fastest growing communities. However, in Miami, only 0.3% of the population are Chinese Americans. In this local setting, in the words of Su Zheng, music serves as an important “signifier that produces complex cultural meanings.”1 Because traditional music forms one of the most significant aspects of music in China, it is critical to explore the extent to which Chinese American musical culture has developed and changed. This paper discusses the function of Chinese music influences, Chinese and Chinese Americans in their new diasporic setting, and how music reflects individual or group identities. This paper explores one type of Chinese American communities in Miami, centering on the Chinese Baptist Church. In this example, the present study attempts to show how music, among Chinese Americans in Miami, involves the preservation and enactment of cultural traditions in daily life, religion, and festivals, through which diasporic communities maintain their sense of identity and place. The music of Chinese Americans in Miami has established its own hybrid tradition that is unique to its own local and national roots, helping to shape the contemporary local diaspora. This paper fills a gap in the study of the Chinese American experience, both in Miami in particular and the United States in general. Through different research methods, I found that the Chinese American musical community is an exceptionally complex diasporic world that, in many respects, markedly contrasts with established Chinese settlements in the United States. This complexity is a product of both the unique cultural environment of Miami and the individual experiences of Chinese American immigrants and their music-making.

A High-Security EEG-Based Login System with RSVP Stimuli and Dry Electrodes

<P>Lately, electroencephalography (EEG)-based authentication has received considerable attention from the scientific community. However, the limited usability of wet EEG electrodes as well as low accuracy for large numbers of users have so far prevented this new technology to become commonplace. In this study a novel EEG-based authentication system is presented, which is based on the rapid serial visual presentation paradigm and uses a knowledge-based approach for authentication. Twenty-nine subjects' data were recorded and analyzed with wet EEG electrodes as well as dry ones. A true acceptance rate of 100% can be reached for all subjects with an average required login time of 13.5 s for wet and 27 s for dry electrodes. Average false acceptance rates for the dry electrode setup were estimated to be 3.33 x 10(-5).</P>

Retrieval of Non-rigid 3D Models Based on Approximated Topological Structure and Local Volume

With the increasing popularity of 3D technology such as 3D printing, 3D modeling, etc., there is a growing need to search for similar models on the internet. Matching non-rigid shapes has become an active research field in computer graphics. In this paper, we present an efficient and effective non-rigid model retrieval method based on topological structure and local volume. The integral geodesic distances are first calculated for each vertex on a mesh to construct the topological structure. Next, each node on the topological structure is assigned a local volume that is calculated using the shape diameter function (SDF). Finally, we utilize the Hungarian algorithm to measure similarity between two non-rigid models. Experimental results on the latest benchmark (SHREC` 15 Non-rigid 3D Shape Retrieval) demonstrate that our method works well compared to the state-of-the-art.

최근 몇 년 동안 한국 영화는 세인이 다 알고 있는 성취를 거두었다. 예술적으로는 국제영화제에서 빈번하게 수상을 하였고 상업적으로는 아시아는 물론 전세계의 영화시장을 신속하게 점령하였다. 높은 입소문과 함께 흥행가작들이 쏟아져 나와 영화 관람붐을 일으키고 문화 현상을 형성하여“한류”문화의 중요한 힘이 되었다. 이런 상황은 한국 정부의 문화정책이 대대적으로 뒷받침한 덕분이기도 하지만, 한국 영화인들의 높은 문화적 자각에도 관계된다. 바로 한국 영화가 보여주는 한국 문화가 동양의 문화적 정취를 담아 관중들의 사랑을 받고 세계의 인정을 받고 있다. 홍창표 감독이 연출하고 심은경, 이승기 주연의 한국 로맨스 코미디 〈궁합〉은 2018년 개봉하였다. 영화는 조선시대 최고의 기예를 가진 역술가 서도윤이 궁합풀이를 통해 송화옹주를 위해 부마를 선택하여 혼인을 해결하고 연이는 가뭄으로 인한 민원을 회복하여 나라 위기를 해결하는 이야기를 썼다. 이 논문은 궁합의 예를 들어, 문화의 물질적 측면과 제도적, 행위적 측면, 심리상태적 측면에서 영화 속 표현의“팔자”,“합혼(閤婚)”등의 전통풍속과 이런 풍속 뒤에 내포된 음향오행문화의 관념을 분석하고 전통문화가 영화라는 현대 문화 예술 형식에서 보여 지는 방식, 방법, 규율을 탐구함으로써 더 나아가 세계화 시대에 어떻게 하면 더욱 자각적이고 자신 있게 서로 다른 인류문명에 대해 파악 할지에 대해 탐구하였다. In recent years, South Korean has made a globally acknowledged achievement in movie industry. In terms of Art, films produced in South Korea obtained lots of awards in international movie festivals; in the business field, Korean movies are swiftly occupying the Asian or even the world film market. Extraordinary films with good reputations and high box office records are frequently launched and induced to a trend, which then forms into a cultural phenomenon and attributes to an important, major force in the so-called “Hallyu” culture. This, in part, benefits from the massive support of Korean government’s cultural policies, and is also a product of the high degree of cultural consciousness of Korean movie producers. The Korean cultures, customs, and the underlying cultural elements of the East, that are presented in these movies, satisfy the audience and appeal their fondness. The Princess and the Matchmaker is a South Korean period romantic comedy film directed by Hong Chang-pyo and starred Shim Eun-kyung and Lee Seung-gi. The movie was presented on Feb 28th, 2018. It tells a story of Seo Do-yoon, the most proficient saju (fortune-teller) expert of the Joseon Era who selected a husband for Princess Song-Hwa based on her “fortune eight letters” (specifically, the time, day, month and year of her and her husbands’ birth, normally in eight letters), in a hope of alleviating the rage of people following years of drought, and thus to resolve a national crisis. This paper takes The Princess and the Matchmaker as an example, from the aspects of cultural state, system, behavior and mentality, to analyze the traditional customs such as “fortune eight letters”, “marriage by match” and the cultural concepts behind these phenomena, in order to explore the ways and methods of traditional culture in the modern cultural and artistic form of film.

Enhancing User Engagement on Brand Fan Pages: An Analysis of Facebook Posts

This study aims to delve into the factors that shape user responses on brand fan pages, with a specific focus on images. Diverging from prior studies, it delves deep into the influence of both quantity and nature (static vs. dynamic) of images and explores how they impact user engagement metrics such as likes, comments, and shares. Our methodology involved extensive data collection, sourced from the Facebook fan pages of six distinct brands, utilizing web-crawling methods. One of the pivotal discoveries of this research underscores the profound influence of visual content, particularly images, on user engagement. Images serve as powerful augmentations, enhancing the vividness of posts and effectively seizing users' attention. In this era of technological advancement, Facebook has evolved to support not only static images but also dynamic ones. This study has unveiled two critical insights: firstly, an increased quantity of images exerts a positive influence on user engagement, and secondly, notably, the dynamic images demonstrates mixed impacts on user engagement metrics, negatively affecting "likes" but positively influencing "shares," while having no impact on "comments." This suggests the importance of strategically balancing static and dynamic images in social media marketing efforts. These findings offer substantial insights for refining content strategies and optimizing marketing efforts in the digital landscape. It underscores the necessity of a strategic and nuanced approach to image utilization, emphasizing the potential for enhancing consumer engagement and the broader impact on social media marketing effectiveness.
