        Structure and Microwave Dielectric Charcteristics of Ba6-3x(Sm1-yNdy)8+2x(Ti0.95Sn0.05)18O54 Ceramics as a Function of Sintering Time

        Effects of sintering time upon the structures and microwave dielectric characteristics of co-substituted Ba6-3xSm8+2xTi18O54 ceramics (x=2/3) were investigated. Prolonged sintering had significant effects upon the Qf value and temperature coefficient, and a high Qf value (10,600 GHz) was obtained in the present ceramics combined with high- (80) and near-zero temperature coefficient.

        A Survey of the Geographic Distribution of Ophiocordyceps sinensis

        Ophiocordyceps sinensis is one of the best known fungi in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Many efforts have been devoted to locating the production areas of this species resulting in various reports; however, its geographic distribution remains incompletely understood. Distribution of O. sinensis at the county level is clarified in this work based on both a literature search and fieldwork. More than 3600 publications related to O. sinensis were investigated, including scientific papers, books, and online information. Herbarium specimens of O. sinensis and field collections made by this research group during the years 2000-2010 were examined to verify the distribution sites. A total of 203 localities for O. sinensis have been found, of which 106 are considered as confirmed distribution sites, 65 as possible distribution sites, 29 as excluded distribution sites and three as suspicious distribution sites. The results show that O. sinensis is confined to the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding regions, including Tibet, Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan provinces in China and in certain areas of the southern flank of the Himalayas, in the countries of Bhutan, India and Nepal, with 3,000 m as the lowest altitude for the distribution. The fungus is distributed from the southernmost site in Yulong Naxi Autonomous County in northwestern Yunnan Province to the northernmost site in the Qilian Mountains in Qilian County, Qinghai Province, and from the east edge of the Tibetan Plateau in Wudu County, Gansu Province to the westernmost site in Uttarakhand, India. The clarification of the geographic distribution of O. sinensis will lay the foundation for conservation and sustainable use of the species.

      • Sense of JUSTICE in Chinese Labor

        Socrates thought that, for the agent by himself, doing wrong is more harmful than suffering injustice. Well, so long as it is merely a matter of wrong done or suffered, thus a matter necessarily existing in the perception of the parties, the proposition may stand. Due to it, a sense of justice consists of ideas and feelings, such as fair and unfair, needs and responsibility, rights, and duties. In China, presently, employees often choose silence when they face ethical dilemmas. Why would they do that? Because they lack a sense of justice and worry about the au-thority of the people who work in charge. This study, through the review of the literature and qualitative analysis methods, tries to explain a sense of justice in Chinese working environment. First of all, this paper reviews the definition, origin, and reasons for a taste of truth through a literature review. Secondly, it uses the method which interviews some employees who work in China. Thirdly, combined with literature review and interview, found that many Chinese people are short of a sense of justice when they face injustice or unfair issues.

      • SPOILED ROTTEN: REPETITIVE PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT AND CONSUMER RETALIATION INTENTION

        This research investigates the negative consequences of offering preferential treatment to consumers. We demonstrate that offering preferential treatment builds up consumers’ feelings of entitlement, which increases consumers’ intention to retaliate against the firm when such treatment is terminated. This effect, which generalizes across a variety of shopping contexts and types of preferential treatment, is shown to be moderated by some specific features of the offer: repetitiveness, regularity, and value. Finally, we explore the relationship between consumer entitlement and consumer gratitude. Specifically, we find that boosting feelings of gratitude by reminding consumers that other firms do not offer similar preferential treatment to their customers attenuates the effect of consumer entitlement on consumer retaliation intention. Taken together, our findings provide actionable insights on how to design preferential treatment that will not backfire.

        Across-wind dynamic loads on L-shaped tall buildings

        The across-wind dynamic loads on L-shaped tall buildings with various geometric dimensions were investigated through a series of wind tunnel testing. The lift coefficients, power spectral densities and vertical correlation coefficients of the across-wind loads were analyzed and discussed in details. Taking the side ratio and terrain category as key variables, empirical formulas for estimating the across-wind dynamic loads on L-shaped tall buildings were proposed on the basis of the wind tunnel testing results. Comparisons between the predictions by the empirical formulas and the wind tunnel test results were made to verify the accuracy and applicability of the proposed formulas. Moreover, a simplified procedure to evaluate the across-wind dynamic loads on L-shaped tall buildings was derived from the proposed formulas. This study aims to provide a simple and reliable way for the estimation of across-wind dynamic loads on L-shaped tall buildings.

        Capillarity-Driven Self-Assembly of Silver Nanowires-Coated Fibers for Flexible and Stretchable Conductor

        The rapid development of smart textiles requires the large-scale fabrication of conductive fibers. In this study, we develop a simple, scalable and low-cost capillary-driven self-assembly method to prepare conductive fibers with uniform morphology, high conductivity and good mechanical strength. Fiber-shaped flexible and stretchable conductors are obtained by coating highly conductive and flexible silver nanowires (Ag NWs) on the surfaces of yarn and PDMS fibers through evaporation-induced flow and capillary-driven self-assembly, which is proven by the in situ optical microscopic observation. The density of Ag NWs and linear resistance of the conductive fibers could be regulated by tuning the assembly cycles. A linear resistance of 1.4Ω/cm could be achieved for the Ag NWs-coated nylon, which increases only 8% after 200 bending cycle, demonstrating high flexibility and mechanical stability. The flexible and stretchable conductive fibers have great potential for the application in wearable devices.

        Multiple Linkage Disequilibrium Mapping Methods to Validate Additive Quantitative Trait Loci in Korean Native Cattle (Hanwoo)

        The efficiency of genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) depends on power of detection for quantitative trait loci (QTL) and precision for QTL mapping. In this study, three different strategies for GWAS were applied to detect QTL for carcass quality traits in the Korean cattle, Hanwoo; a linkage disequilibrium single locus regression method (LDRM), a combined linkage and linkage disequilibrium analysis (LDLA) and a BayesCπ approach. The phenotypes of 486 steers were collected for weaning weight (WWT), yearling weight (YWT), carcass weight (CWT), backfat thickness (BFT), longissimus dorsi muscle area, and marbling score (Marb). Also the genotype data for the steers and their sires were scored with the Illumina bovine 50K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chips. For the two former GWAS methods, threshold values were set at false discovery rate <0.01 on a chromosome-wide level, while a cut-off threshold value was set in the latter model, such that the top five windows, each of which comprised 10 adjacent SNPs, were chosen with significant variation for the phenotype. Four major additive QTL from these three methods had high concordance found in 64.1 to 64.9Mb for Bos taurus autosome (BTA) 7 for WWT, 24.3 to 25.4Mb for BTA14 for CWT, 0.5 to 1.5Mb for BTA6 for BFT and 26.3 to 33.4Mb for BTA29 for BFT. Several candidate genes (i.e. glutamate receptor, ionotropic, ampa 1 [GRIA1], family with sequence similarity 110, member B [FAM110B], and thymocyte selection-associated high mobility group box [TOX]) may be identified close to these QTL. Our result suggests that the use of different linkage disequilibrium mapping approaches can provide more reliable chromosome regions to further pinpoint DNA makers or causative genes in these regions.

        선형 및 일반형 침투깊이를 이용한 6자유도 햅틱 렌더링 알고리즘

        We present six-degree-of-freedom (6DoF) haptic rendering algorithms using translational (PDt) and generalized penetration depth (PDg). Our rendering algorithm can handle any type of object/object haptic interaction using penalty-based response and makes no assumption about the underlying geometry and topology. Moreover, our rendering algorithm can effectively deal with multiple contacts. Our penetration depth algorithms for PDt and PDg are based on a contact-space projection technique combined with iterative, local optimization on the contact-space. We circumvent the local minima problem, imposed by the local optimization, using motion coherence present in the haptic simulation. Our experimental results show that our methods can produce high-fidelity force feedback for general polygonal models consisting of tens of thousands of triangles at near-haptic rates, and are successfully integrated into an off-the-shelf 6DoF haptic device. We also discuss the benefits of using different formulations of penetration depth in the context of 6DoF haptics.
