Taiwan's 'Internet Enko' Behavior and Adolescent Girls
YAO, Chung-Yuan,CHANG, Sue-Chung 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2012 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.18 No.2
The term, “Internet Enko” is derived from 'enjokosai', which means assisted dating in Japan, where teenage girl students consider it as part-time work to make money. In Taiwan, use of the Internet for deception, exploitation, and malicious behavior has affected society negatively. Many teenagers now believe that “Internet Enko”, which is a type of sexual transaction undertaken via the Internet, is a matter of individual choice and an acceptable way to make money. These young people feel no shame in mentioning to others their intention to enroll in “Internet Enko” lists. Unfortunately, the negative consequences of such activities can have grave consequences for those involved and society as a whole. In this article we seek to identify the fundamental causes of Internet enko, why it is prevalent in Taiwan, and suggest preventive measures to reduce or eliminate it. We analyze four spheres that this problem impacts-family, school, society, and the government-in the hope of providing some solutions to deal with it.

This study explores the influence of Taiwan's high-tech manufacturers' innovative strategy and innovation motivation concerning the implementation of innovative activities, as well as the influence of innovative activities implementation on business performance. The two intermediate variables, industry group and enterprise scale are also considered. Through a review of the relevant literature, a theoretical model of the influence relationship is developed, while an empirical analysis is simultaneously conducted on Taiwan's high-tech manufacturers. The research result shows that the internal driving force of innovative activities has a significant impact on the level of implementing technological innovative activities and cultural innovative activities. The external driving force of innovative activities has a significant impact on the level of implementing market innovative activities and management innovative activities. Companies adopting self-developed technology and purchased as well as self-developed technology strategies, perform better than those adopting purchased new technology or those with neither purchased nor self-developed technology strategies, at implementing technological innovative activities and cultural innovative activities. The level of implementing innovative activities has a significant influence on business performance (cost reduction and product/service differentiation). For the intermediate variables of "industry group" and "enterprise scale", it is proven in this study that they have no significant influence on the level of innovative activity implementation or business performance.

A Study of the Ergonomics Evaluation of a Water Heater's Case Manufacturing Factory
Hsu, Yao-Wen,Chung, Yi-Chan,Chiu, Chung-Ching,Chen, Ching-Piao,Tsai, Chih-Hung The Korean Society for Quality Management 2008 The Asian Journal on Quality Vol.9 No.1
Unnatural working postures usually cause musculoskeletal problems for workers in work field, especially in traditional industry. Many analysis and survey methodologies have been developed to identify unnatural postures and disorder risks in workplaces. The Ovako Working Posture Analyzing System (OWAS) and Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) are the representative methods and applied widely. This study applied the both tools to investigate the work field of a manufacturing factory of the water heater's case. We divided the manufacturing process into nine workshops, took the pictures of working motions by DV camera and analyzed the postures on OWAS. From the OW AS results, we could identify the risks level of musculoskeletal symptoms as four Action Categories (AC). And from the comparison of OWAS and NMQ results, we could provide the suggestions to improve the working methods and environment. From the results of OWAS, we found that the operators' head/neck and back were above AC3 in some workshops. If the situation continued in long period, the operators might have the risk to get musculoskeletal symptoms. From the investigation of NMQ, we also found that the percentage of aches on neck, shoulders and lower back were higher than other parts of body. The correlation between aches and jobs was more than 75%. So we provided some suggestions to improve: work rotation and adjustment of work surface/height to fit in with Ergonomics. Then the risks of musculoskeletal symptoms would be reduced.
Detonation transmission with an abrupt change in area
Hsu, Yao-Chung,Chao, Yei-Chin,Chung, Kung-Ming Techno-Press 2018 Advances in aircraft and spacecraft science Vol.5 No.5
Detonation transmission between propane/oxygen (donor) and propane/air (acceptor) with an abrupt area change is experimentally studied. In the donor, there are two types of incident detonation waves: A self-sustained Chapman-Jouguet (CJ) detonation wave and an overdriven detonation wave that is a result of the difference in the initial donor pressure ratios. The piston work is used to characterize the strength of the incident detonation wave. For an incident CJ detonation wave, the re-initiation of a detonation wave in the acceptor depends on the initial pressure in the donor and the expansion ratio. The axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric soot patterns respectively correspond to direct detonation and detonation re-initiation. For an incident overdriven detonation wave, the re-initiation of a detonation wave in the acceptor strongly depends on the degree of overdrive.

Backgrounds/Aims: Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPPN) is typically seen in young healthy females who would likely benefit from minimally-invasive pancreatectomy (MIP). A few comparative studies have suggested that MIP is associated with favorable outcomes when compared to the open approach for SPPN. This study aims to mitigate potential selection bias by performing a matched case-control study comparing MIP vs open pancreatectomy (OP) for SPPN. Methods: We performed a single-institution retrospective electronic chart review of all patients who underwent surgery for pathologically confirmed SPPN between 2000 and 2017. A 2:1 matched comparison using age, gender, tumor size and the type of pancreatectomy was performed between OP and MIP. Results: A total of 40 patients with a median age of 40.3 years (range 16.5-64.4) and female sex predominance (n=34, 85.0%) underwent surgery during the study period. Nine patients underwent MIP. Matched comparison between 18 OP and 9 MIP demonstrated that MIP was associated with a longer median operating time (305 vs 180 min, p=0.046) and shorter median postoperative stay (6 vs 9 days, p=0.015). There were no significant differences in intraoperative blood loss, blood transfusion requirements, postoperative morbidity (including postoperative pancreatic fistula) and mortality, resection margins, lymph node yield and long-term survival. Conclusions: MIP is a safe and viable option in the management of SPPN with the benefit of a shorter postoperative length of stay at the expense of a longer operation time. There was no significant difference in oncologic outcomes between both groups of patients.

Backgrounds/Aims: To determine the prevalence of post-hepatectomy liver failure/insufficiency (PHLF/I) in patients undergoing extensive hepatic resections for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to assess the predictive value of preoperative factors for post-hepatectomy liver failure or insufficiency (PHLF/I). Methods: A retrospective review of patients who underwent liver resections for HCC between 2001 and 2013 was conducted. Preoperative parameters were assessed and analyzed for their predictive value of PHLF/I. Definitions used included the 50-50, International Study Group of Liver Surgery (ISGLS) and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre (MSKCC) criteria. Results: Among the 848 patients who underwent liver resections for HCC between 2001 and 2013, 157 underwent right hepatectomy (RH) and extended right hepatectomy (ERH). The prevalence of PHLF/I was 7%, 41% and 28% based on the 50-50, ISGLS and MSKCC criteria, respectively. There were no significant differences in PHLF/I between RH and ERH. Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score and bilirubin were the strongest independent predictors of PHLF/I based on the 50-50 and ISGLS/MSKCC criteria, respectively. Predictive models were developed for each of the criteria with multiple logistic regression. Conclusions: MELD score, bilirubin, alpha-fetoprotein and platelet count showed significant predictive value for PHLF/I (all p<0.05). A composite score based on these factors serves as guideline for physicians to better select patients undergoing extensive resections to minimize PHLF.
