The vibrational response of the two bones in a Volleyball player’s arm under ball impact is conducted. The two bones in hand, Ulna and Radius, are modeled as two cylindrical shells. The formulations associated with the shells’ vibration are obtained using the energy method. Then, the results are extracted with the aid of the two-dimensional form of DQM in conjunction with Runge-Kutta. The results are validated by means of a published paper. Lastly, the role of parameters in determining vibrational frequency as well as deflection is explored through parametric studies. It was shown that the impactor speed and the time of the impact could be essential factors in determining the vibration behavior of the bones. This work can be used in the further investigation of the behavior of bones and physiological structures.

The enantioselective aza-Morita Baylis Hillman reaction of nitroalkene and N-tosylimine catalyzed by thiourea-tertiary amine has been investigated using density functional theory. Enantioselectivity is dominated by the cooperative effect of non-covalent and weak covalent interactions imposed by different units of catalyst. As Lewis base, the tertiary amine unit activates nitroalkene via weak covalent bond. The weak covalent interaction orients the reaction in a major path with smaller variations of this bond. The aromatic ring unit activates N-tosylimine via π-π stacking. The non-covalent interaction selects the major path with smaller changes of the efficient packing areas. Thiourea unit donates more compact H-bonded network for species of the major path. The calculated ee value in xylene solution phase (97.6%) is much higher than that in N,NDimethylformamide (27.2%). Our conclusion is also supported by NBO analysis.

Accelerator has been widely applied to high energy, low energy physics, Medical environmental and military fields, etc. The magnet power supply is one of the most important parts of the accelerator. While the magnet power supply of accelerator is taken as the control object, and the design of LQR controller of the magnet power supply based on PSO has been proposed. At the beginning, the state-space model of the magnet power supply has been established by modern control theories. Then, the PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm has been used for the weight matrices optimization of LQR controller in order to ensure that the magnet power supply can provide a magnetic field quickly which the accelerator required. The experimental results indicate that the method that proposed in the paper can meet the requirements of fast output response of the system and each control index of the LQR controller is obviously superior to that by the traditional method.

The bearing mechanism of pile during installation and loading process which controls the deformation and distribution of strain and stress in the soil surrounding pile tip is complex and full of much uncertainty. It is pointed out that particle crushing occurs in significant stress concentrated region such as the area surrounding pile tip. The solution to this problem requires the understanding and modeling of the mechanical behavior of granular soil under high pressures. This study aims to investigate the sand behavior around pile tip considering the characteristics of sand crushing. The numerical analysis of model pile loading test under different surcharge pressure with constitutive model for sand crushing is presented. This constitutive model is capable of predicting the dilatancy of soil from negative to positive under low confining pressure and only negative dilatancy under high confining pressure. The predicted relationships between the normalized bearing stress and normalized displacement are agreeable with the experimental results during the entire loading process. It is estimated from numerical results that the vertical stress beneath pile tip is up to 20 MPa which is large enough to cause sand to be crushed. The predicted distribution area of volumetric strain represents that the distributed area shaped wedge for volumetric contraction is beneath pile tip and distributed area for volumetric expansion is near the pile shaft. It is demonstrated that the finite element formulation incorporating a constitutive model for sand with crushing is capable of producing reasonable results for the pile loading problem.

In this study, interface-assembled carbonyl reductase (IACR) was prepared and used in the synthesis of S-licarbazepine in a toluene/Tris-HCl biphasic system. The carbonyl reductase (CR) was conjugated with polystyrene to form a surfactant-like structure at the interface of the toluene/Tris-HCl biphasic system. The interface-assembled efficiency of IACR reached 83% when the CR (180 U/mg) and polystyrene concentration were 8 × 102 g/ml and 3.75 × 103 g/ml, respectively. The conversion reached 95.6% and the enantiometric excess of S-licarbazepine was 98.6% when 3.97 × 106 nmol/l oxcarbazepine was converted by IACR using 6% ethanol as a co-substrate in toluene/Tris-HCl (12.5:10) at 30°C and 43 ×g for 6 h. IACR could be reused efficiently five times.

Plant shoot and root growth is regulated by multiplefactors, including the hormone auxin. A maize brachytic2(br2) mutant displays a shortened shoot and root with highauxin concentration in their apexes, where BR2 encodes anauxin transporter P-glycoprotein1 (PGP1). We employedcomparative transcriptome sequencing to explore the BR2/PGP1-mediated patterns for shoot and root growth amongbr2, wild type (WT), and hybrid F1 (br2 × WT). The resultsshow 352 genes in the br2 shoot and 234 genes in the br2root are differentially expressed compared to WT and F1. Zm00001d045203 and Zm00001d031562 were identified astwo auxin-responsive genes in both the shoot and root. TheZm00001d045203 gene is down-regulated in br2 and encodesan Aux/IAA inhibitor involved in the SCFTIR1/AFB-mediatedauxin signaling pathway. The up-regulated Zm00001d031562gene encodes a small GTPase belonging to the Rab/Yptfamily, which takes part in auxin-mediated responses inArabidopsis. Cytology analysis reveals that reduced cellelongation affects the shoot and root growth of br2. TheZm00001d043477 gene is down-regulated and encodes amember of the cellulose synthase protein family, possiblyreducing cell elongation in the br2 shoot and root. Theseresults reveal the specific regulation of auxin actions and cellresponses by BR2/PGP1.
