Comparative Study on the Effects of D-Psicose and D-Fructose in the Maillard Reaction with β-Lactoglobulin

        Yan Zeng,Huan Zhang,Yuping Guan,Lili Zhang,Yuanxia Sun 한국식품과학회 2013 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.22 No.2

D-Psicose, recognized as a noncaloric sweetener, has shown a great potential in food industry. In the present study, D-psicose and D-fructose were used to modify bovine β-lactoglobulin (β-Lg) through Maillard reaction. The Maillard reaction process and the physicochemical and structural properties of the modified proteins were also investigated. The result showed that compared to Dfructose,D-psicose played a more effective role in the Maillard reaction, especially after the initial stage of the reaction. Moreover, the modified β-Lg with D-psicose had more polymeric compounds, higher antioxidant activity, but lower thermal stability than that with D-fructose. These findings, especially the structural changes of the modified proteins, supplied detail information on the Maillard reaction of D-psicose, and could provide some guidance to the practical applications of this rare sugar on food industry.

Kinetic Models of Controllable Pore Growth of Anodic Aluminum Oxide Membrane

        Yan Huang,Hong-yan Zeng,Ce Zhao,Ye-qing Qu,Pin Zhang 대한금속·재료학회 2012 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.18 No.3

An anodized Al2O3 (AAO) membrane with apertures about 72 nm in diameter was prepared by two-step anodic oxidation. The appearance and pore arrangement of the AAO membrane were characterized by energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It was confirmed that the pores with high pore aspect ratio were parallel, well-ordered, and uniform. The kinetics of pores growth in the AAO membrane was derived, and the kinetic models showed that pores stopped developing when the pressure (σ) trended to equal the surface tension at the end of anodic oxidation. During pore expansion, the effects of the oxalic acid concentration and expansion time on the pore size were investigated, and the kinetic behaviors were explained with two kinetic models derived in this study. They showed that the pore size increased with extended time (r=G·t+G’), but decreased with increased concentration (r=−K·lnc -K’)through the derived mathematic formula. Also, the values of G, G’,K, and K’ were derived from our experimental data.

      • Association of the Glutathione S-transferase T1 Null Genotype with Risk of Gastric Cancer: a Meta-analysis in Asian Populations

Zeng, Yan,Bai, Jian,Deng, Li-Cong,Xie, Yu-Ping,Zhao, Fen,Huang, Ying Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.3

Background: A large number of studies have been published to investigate the association between the null genotype of glutathione S-transferase T1 (GSTT1) with gastric cancer. However, the results were inconsistent and conflicting. The aim of this study was to estimate the relationship between this polymorphism in the GSTT1 gene and gastric cancer risk in Asian populations by meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: A literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Chinese Biomedical database (CBM), Weipu database, Wanfang database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure database (CNKI). Statistical analysis was conducted by using Review Manager 5.3. Results: Thirty-nine studies with a total of 7,737 gastric cancer cases and 10,823 controls were included in this meta-analysis. The meta-analysis of total studies showed that the null genotype in GSTT1 was associated with increased risk of gastric cancer in Asians (OR=1.19, 95% CI=1.08-1.31, p=0.0002). Subgroup analysis showed a significant relationship between GSTT1 null genotype and gastric cancer in East-Asians, as well as in subgroup analysis of hospital-based design. On subgroup analysis by smoking status, alcohol status, Helicobacter pylori infection status, and histology type, no significant association of this polymorphism with susceptibility to gastric cancer was found. Conclusions: In conclusion, the results showed that the null genotype of GSTT1 is significantly associated with an increased risk in gastric cancer in Asian populations.

        Zeng-Yan Li,Xiao-Min Li,Zhao-Ying Zhou 제어로봇시스템학회 2016 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2016 No.10

The wings of loitering unit could be unfolded in flight. In view of the model parameters uncertainty caused by the structural change, based on the vehicle’s longitudinal and lateral motion equations, combined with the characteristics of ADRC, active disturbance rejection attitude controller is designed. Six degrees of freedom nonlinear simulation model is operated with Simulink and aerodynamic parameters are gained by Fluent. The robustness of this controller is verified by the aerodynamic parameter perturbation method. Actual flight experiments show that the active disturbance rejection attitude control algorithm can improve the robustness of the system with model uncertainty and the performance of the flight control system. So it has high practical value.

Examination of a Nurse-led Community-based Education and Coaching Intervention for Coronary Heart Disease High-risk Individuals in China

        Yan-Jin Huang,Monica Parry,Ying Zeng,Yan Luo,Jing Yang,Guo-Ping He 한국간호과학회 2017 Asian Nursing Research Vol.11 No.3

Purpose: Early detection and management of coronary heart disease (CHD) are embedded into many community health service and primary care practices in western countries. The Framingham CHD risk score has been used to predict CHD and mortality for nearly 20 years, and it has predicted CHD event risk accurately in multiethnic populations. The aim of this study was to access the effect of a 6-month community-based intervention on CHD risk in individuals at high risk. Methods: A randomized controlled trial of individuals with a high 10-year CHD risk were recruited from two communities in China. Individuals in the intervention group (n ¼ 53) received a 3-month group education and a 3-month coaching session. Physical examination and self-report questionnaires were used to collect both pre- and postintervention data on blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body mass index, smoking, depression, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Results: A total of 102 participants (85.0%) completed the 6-month study. Compared with the usual care group, the intervention group had a 5 mmHg greater reduction in systolic blood pressure (t = 2.01, p = .047), larger declines in glucose (t = 2.49, p = .015), cholesterol (t = 2.44, p = .017), body mass index (t = 2.58, p = .011), and depression (t = 2.05, p = .043), and better reports of HRQoL (t = 3.36, p = .001). No significant group differences in smoking behaviors were reported. Conclusion: A 6-month community-based intervention in a CHD high-risk population improved diseaserelated risk factors, depression, and HRQoL. Results provide preliminary evidence for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease risk in a community high-risk population.

      • 8-60hIPP5m-Induced G2/M Cell Cycle Arrest Involves Activation of ATM/p53/p21cip1/waf1 Pathways and Delayed Cyclin B1 Nuclear Translocation

        Zeng, Qi-Yan,Zeng, Lin-Jie,Huang, Yu,Huang, Yong-Qi,Zhu, Qi-Fang,Liao, Zhi-Hong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.9

Protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) is a major serine/threonine phosphatase that controls gene expression and cell cycle progression. The active mutant IPP5 ($8-60hIPP5^m$), the latest member of the inhibitory molecules for PP1, has been shown to inhibit the growth of human cervix carcinoma cells (HeLa). In order to elucidate the underlying mechanisms, the present study assessed overexpression of $8-60hIPP5^m$ in HeLa cells. Flow cytometric and biochemical analyses showed that overexpression of $8-60hIPP5^m$ induced G2/M-phase arrest, which was accompanied by the upregulation of cyclin B1 and phosphorylation of G2/M-phase proteins ATM, p53, $p21^{cip1/waf1}$ and Cdc2, suggesting that $8-60hIPP5^m$ induces G2/M arrest through activation of the ATM/p53/$p21^{cip1/waf1}$/Cdc2/cyclin B1 pathways. We further showed that overexpression of $8-60hIPP5^m$ led to delayed nuclear translocation of cyclin B1. $8-60hIPP5^m$ also could translocate to the nucleus in G2/M phase and interact with $pp1{\alpha}$ and Cdc2 as demonstrated by co-precipitation assay. Taken together, our data demonstrate a novel role for $8-60hIPP5^m$ in regulation of cell cycle in HeLa cells, possibly contributing to the development of new therapeutic strategies for cervix carcinoma.

      • Sensitization of Cervical Carcinoma Cells to Paclitaxel by an IPP5 Active Mutant

        Zeng, Qi-Yan,Huang, Yu,Zeng, Lin-Jie,Huang, Min,Huang, Yong-Qi,Zhu, Qi-Fang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.19

Paclitaxel is one of the best anticancer agents that has been isolated from plants, but its major disadvantage is its dose-limiting toxicity. In this study, we obtained evidence that the active mutant IPP5 ($8-60hIPP5^m$), the latest member of the inhibitory molecules for protein phosphatase 1, sensitizes human cervix carcinoma cells HeLa more efficiently to the therapeutic effects of paclitaxel. The combination of $8-60hIPP5^m$ with paclitaxel augmented anticancer effects as compared to paclitaxel alone as evidenced by reduced DNA synthesis and increased cytotoxicity in HeLa cells. Furthermore, our results revealed that $8-60hIPP5^m$ enhances paclitaxel-induced G2/M arrest and apoptosis, and augments paclitaxel-induced activation of caspases and release of cytochrome C. Evaluation of signaling pathways indicated that this synergism was in part related to downregulation of NF-${\kappa}B$ activation and serine/threonine kinase Akt pathways. We noted that $8-60hIPP5^m$ downregulated the paclitaxel-induced NF-${\kappa}B$ activation, $I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$ degradation, PI3-K activity and phosphorylation of the serine/threonine kinase Akt, a survival signal which in many instances is regulated by NF-${\kappa}B$. Together, our observations indicate that paclitaxel in combination with $8-60hIPP5^m$ may provide a therapeutic advantage for the treatment of human cervical carcinoma.
