      • Job Search Activity of Unemployed Married Men and Women in Canada

        Cyclical bust and boom and the resulting economic restructuring result in some workers being forced out of work. Based on the controversy over the presence or absence of gender differences in coping responses to unemployment that differ in unequal expectations of sex roles and sexual division of labor among the unemployed married individuals, this paper, using the 2008 Labor Force Survey conducted by Statistics Canada, explores whether there are gender-based differences in job seeking, one of the most important strategies for coping responses to unemployment. The finding shows that women value their employment as much as men and make similar efforts to re-enter the labor market when unemployed.

      • The Tourism Demand of Nonlinear Combination Forecasting based on Time Series Method and WNN

        The combination forecasting model IOWGA-EMD-ARMA-WNN is proposed in this paper. The randomness, periodicity and tendency of the original data are showed by EMD decomposition in EMD-ARMA model. WNN combines the advantages of wavelet analysis and BP neural network and improves the learning efficiency and forecasting accuracy. The weight of combination model is decided by forecasting precision of EMD-ARMA model and WNN model based on IOWGA method. At last, the IOWGA-EMD-ARMA-WNN model is used to forecast monthly inboard tourism demand of China and the results show that the proposed combination model has better performance on forecasting accuracy compared with the other models.

      • ReliefF-based Multi-label Feature Selection

        In recent years, multi-label learning has been used to deal with data attributed to multiple labels simultaneously and has been increasingly applied to various applications. As many other machine learning tasks, multi-label learning also suffers from the curse of dimensionality; so extracting good features using multiple labels of the datasets becomes an important step prior to classification. In this paper, we study the problem of multi-label feature selection for classification and have proposed a method based on single label feature selection ReliefF, termed ML-ReliefF, to select discriminant features in order to boost multi-label classification accuracy. Compared to other multi-label feature selection methods that only consider the relationship between pairwise classes, the proposed method introduces the concept of label set to further consider the relationship among more than two labels, modifies the regulation of the nearest neighbors computation reflecting the influence between samples and multiple labels, and considers and adds the similarity between samples to reinforce the effect. With the classifier, ML-kNN, experiments on five different datasets show that the proposed method is effective in removing irrelevant or redundant features and the selected features are more discriminant for classification.

      • Does incubation matter when copying equity funds in China?

        This study investigates the impact of incubation on the effectiveness of copycat funds in the largest emerging market, China. The empirical findings are as follows. First, unlike the U.S., the overall findings exclude the possibility of successfully copying equity funds in China. Second, an advisory company’s fund incubation makes it harder to free-ride on new funds than old funds. Third, incubation is generally undertaken for new funds in a bullish market so that copycat returns of new-minus-old funds have a negative correlation with market returns. Fourth, the effect of long Chinese Lunar Year holiday impairs the performance of primitive funds, consequently, copying is effective in January and February. Finally, logit analysis shows that copying is successful for those funds with low performance and low turnover ratios.

        The Numerical Simulation Analysis of Flow Field in Level Control Valve of Water Storage Tank

        Level control valve of water storage tank is installed in the outlet of tank, which control the water level of water storage tank by adjusting the water emissions, which make great significance for the safe operation of the super (super) criticality thermal power unit boiler . Complete the simulation analysis of internal flow field by the method of numerical simulation ,in order to achieve structure improvements of level control valve of water storage tank, that make level control valve of water storage tank better meet the work requirements. Establish flow channel model and mesh models of level control valve of water storage tank in various stages of the open process. Make three dimensional viscous numerical simulation of the internal complex flow field by the computational fluid dynamics software of ANSYS CFX. The error between the simulation values of the flow coefficient and the theoretical values , trial values is less than 5% ,which verifies the correctness of the simulation results . Get pressure contour , velocity streamline diagrams and outlet mass flow of level control valve of water storage tank in various stages of the open process. According to the pressure contours and velocity streamline diagrams, make detailed analysis of the flow field of level control valve of water storage tank. According to the dates of outlet mass flow, fit the flow characteristic curve of level control valve of water storage tank. Provide a theoretical basis for the structural design of level control valve of water storage tank.

        Liquid crystal display panel fabricated in dual mode

        The current panels for liquid crystal display (LCD) TV sets are all characterized by pins placed on two sides. To manufacture one type of panel, a dedicated mask is needed, and the production line should be started once. Moreover, the whole panel needs to be removed if a dead pixel is found. If the panel, however, will first be fabricated with pins placed on four sides and then divided by a cross-cut into four equal-sized panels with pins placed on two sides, one set of masks can be used to manufacture two types of LCD panels, which was referred to by the authors as dual mode. In this paper, the concept of the dual mode and its differences from the conventional way of producing panels are introduced. Its advantages in boosting production efficiency, improving the product’s good rate, and lowering the production cost are also described based on case studies. Of particular importance is the fact that the dual mode is very suitable for the trial production of very-large-area LCD TV sets.

        Directional Water Transport in Fabrics by Varying Yarn Coordination and Texture Design

        Directional water transport fabric plays a pivotal role in personal thermal management. However, it has remained a greatchallenge to reach the target only by texture design and yarn coordination. Here, we reported a trilayered woven fabric (TWF)with directional water transport performance by combining a hierarchical microporous structure and asymmetric wettability. The TWF is composed of interweaved plain weave layer (PWL), basket weave layer (BWL) and float layer (FL), whichprovides the continuous water transfer paths by the continuous warp yarns that move back and forth in the thickness directionof the fabric. The asymmetric structure of the TWF endows the fabric with excellent directional water management property,which can be tailored by the fineness and the wetting state of weft yarn in the three layers, and the groove structure on thesurface of the PWL. The resulting TWF exhibited a high directional water transport index R (435%). The mechanism for thedirectional water transport of the BWF was investigated by analyzing the capillary force, hydrostatic pressure and hydrophobicforce. Moreover, the universality of the fabric design approach was verified by two kinds of bilayered woven fabrics (BWFs)which have an analogous texture to the TWF. Therefore, the reported method for designing directional water transport fabricthrew light on developing eco-friendly water management textiles with good durability for demanding situations.

        Assessment of the Trueness and Inter-Laboratory Precision of Routine Uric Acid Assays Using 4 Frozen Pooled Serum Samples Measured by the Japan Society of Clinical Chemistry’s HPLC Method

        Background: Reference procedures are required for evaluating the accuracy of routine analytical systems for uric acid (UA). External quality assessment (EQA) for UA has only been conducted with quality controls in China, and the results have not been published. This study was designed to investigate both the trueness and inter-laboratory precision of UA measurements among routine analytical systems using a candidate reference method. Methods: We performed the HPLC method recommended by the Japan Society of Clinical Chemistry (JSCC). Next, we evaluated its analytical performance and validated its true- ness. The performance of 4 routine analytical systems (5 instruments per system, n=20) for UA was assessed by using 4 frozen pooled serum samples measured by the HPLC method according to biologically relevant quality goals. Results: Within-run, between-run, inter-day, and total CV of the method were less than 0.3%, 0.4%, 1.8%, and 2.6%, respectively. The UA measurements were consistent with the target values of standard reference material (SRM) 909b, the sixth ring trial for Refer- ence Laboratories (RELA-2008) specimen, and national primary reference materials. The 4 frozen pooled serum samples were homogeneous, stable, and commutable. All routine systems achieved the desirable performance goal (total error <11.9%). Conclusions: We successfully reproduced the JSCC’s HPLC method, which was simple, specific, precise, and accurate. We recommend this method as a reference method for UA measurement in human serum. Four routine analytical systems for UA measurement had acceptable traceability, and their UA results showed good concordance.

        Synthesis of Novel Poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid) (P(DEA-co-AA)) Microgels as Carrier of Horseradish Peroxidase Immobilization for Pollution Treatment

        A series of temperature-sensitive N,N-diethylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid microgels were synthesized by modified surfactant-free emulsion polymerization method and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,turbidimetric method, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements. The SEM images showed that the as-synthesized microgels were monodispersed as spherical particles and the average size increased from 200 to 800 nm with the mole fraction of acrylic acid (AA) increasing from 0 to 0.40. Turbidimetric analysis and DLS investigation indicated that the volume phase transition temperature and the swelling ratio of the microgels had an upward trend that was associated with the higher incorporation of AA. Furthermore,horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was successfully immobilized on the microgel with the greatest swelling ratio (the mole fraction of AA equal to 0.40) to obtain an enzyme-microgel complex for the treatment of wastewater polluted by phenolic compounds. The immobilized HRP achieved a high removal efficiency of >96% toward phenol and was more thermostable and more easily stored and reused compared with free HRP.
