        One-Cycle Control Strategy for Dual-Converter Three-Phase PWM Rectifier under Unbalanced Grid Voltage Conditions

        In this paper, a dual-converter three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier based on unbalanced one-cycle control (OCC) strategy is proposed. The proposed rectifier is used to eliminate the second harmonic waves of DC voltage and distortion of line currents under unbalanced input grid voltage conditions. The dual-converter PWM rectifier employs two converters, which are called positive-sequence converter and negative-sequence converter. The unbalanced OCC system compensates feedback currents of positive-sequence converter via grid negative-sequence voltages, as well as compensates feedback currents of negative-sequence converter via grid positive-sequence voltages. The AC currents of positive- and negative-sequence converter are controlled to be symmetrical. Thus, the workload of every switching device of converter is balanced. Only one conventional PI controller is adopted to achieve invariant power control. Then, the parameter tuning is simplified, and the extraction for positive- and negative-sequence currents is not needed anymore. The effectiveness and the viability of the control strategy are demonstrated through detailed experimental verification.

        Robotic variable fabric formwork

        Casting is one of the most widely used construction techniques. Complex geometries produced via com-putational design processes are not readily achievable through traditional rigid formwork and are subject to increased material waste. More suitable casting techniques are required to represent digital design output efficiently. This article presents a variable fabric formwork developed to work in conjunction with a 6-axis robotic arm for casting doubly curved panels based on hyperbolic paraboloid geometry. The vari-able formwork is designed to be extendable in length and width so that it can produce a wide range of outcomes within a single formwork. The interface established in the workflow allows the physical form-work and digital design to influence each other. The article concludes by discussing a verification method used to confirm the accuracy of the outcome. This variable fabric form-work reduces construction waste and is a more sustainable method for casting complex geometries

        Modeling of ammonia-based wet flue gas desulfurization in the spray scrubber

        A mathematical model of ammonia-based wet flue gas desulfurization process was developed based on the double film theory. The calculated results of the desulfurization system for two 220 t·h^−1 boilers per unit by this model were compared to that of corresponding measured data. It was found that the calculated results agree well with the measured data for the operating conditions of pH, liquid/gas ratio and SO_2 concentration. This model can provide predictions of the absorption performance of an ammonia-based wet flue gas desulfurization process and appears to be helpful for designing scrubbers for SO_2 absorption with ammonia absorbent.
