      • Joint Fingerprinting/Encryption for Medical Image Security

        Conghuan Ye,Zenggang Xiong,Yaoming Ding,Xueming Zhang,Guangwei Wang,Fang Xu 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.9 No.1

Electronic health records (EHRs) facilitates the healthcare process. However, it can also cause serious security and privacy problems. While various conventional encryption mechanisms can solve some aspects of these problems, they cannot address the illegal distribution of decrypted medical images. To protect decrypted medical images from being illegally distributed by an authorized staff member, the scheme proposed in this paper provides a joint fingerprinting and encryption (JFE) scheme based on GoL (Game of Life) and DNA computing with the purpose of protecting medical media distribution. In this study, GoL and DNA are used to confuse in DWT domain and diffusion in spatial domain respectively, and fingerprints are embedded into the HL and LH subbands of DWT domain. The use of fingerprinting along with encryption can provide a double-layer of protection to medical image. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Electricity Cost Minimization for Delay-tolerant Basestation Powered by Heterogeneous Energy Source

( Qingyong Deng ),( Xueming Li ),( Zhetao Li ),( Anfeng Liu ),( Young-june Choi ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2017 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.11 No.12

Recently, there are many studies, that considering green wireless cellular networks, have taken the energy consumption of the base station (BS) into consideration. In this work, we first introduce an energy consumption model of multi-mode sharing BS powered by multiple energy sources including renewable energy, local storage and power grid. Then communication load requests of the BS are transformed to energy demand queues, and battery energy level and worst-case delay constraints are considered into the virtual queue to ensure the network QoS when our objective is to minimize the long term electricity cost of BSs. Lyapunov optimization method is applied to work out the optimization objective without knowing the future information of the communication load, real-time electricity market price and renewable energy availability. Finally, linear programming is used, and the corresponding energy efficient scheduling policy is obtained. The performance analysis of our proposed online algorithm based on real-world traces demonstrates that it can greatly reduce one day’s electricity cost of individual BS.

UV-crosslinked Solution Blown PVDF Nanofiber Mats for Protective Applications

        Ya Liu,Xueming Wang,Nana Li,Xiaoyin Wang,Lei Shi,Enjie Wu,Rui Wang,Mingjing Shan,Xupin Zhuang 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.3

Nanofiber mats have received considerable attention from researchers in the field of particulate protection. In thisstudy, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofiber mats were prepared on a large scale by a solution blowing process, and thencrosslinked by ultraviolet (UV)-radiation using trimethylolpropane tri-acrylate (TMPTA) as a crosslinker. The structure, morphology, mechanical and thermal properties, and protective performance of the nanofiber mats were evaluated. Resultsshow that the addition of TMPTA and UV treatment decreased the diameter of the nanofibers and enhanced the mechanicalproperties, air permeability, and moisture permeability. Nanofiber mats show higher filtration and lower filtration resistancecompared with a commercial product. Furthermore, the nanofiber mats were bonded with Nylon 6 fabric, which showedgood performance as a novel functional layer in protective clothing.

      • MITIGATING THE EFFICIENCY-INNOVATION TENSION WITH STRATEGIC MARKETING LEVERS

Jaakko Aspara,Xueming Luo 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2014 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2014 No.7

A well-known dilemma in strategic marketing is whether a firm can be simultaneously both efficient in its existing business and innovative in creating new business (Atuahene-Gima 2005; Christensen 1997). Beleaguered companies such as AOL, Kmart, Motorola, Nokia, Polaroid, and Sears are examples that were once highly efficient in serving customers, but partly due to that efficiency in their existing business, paradoxically failed to introduce innovations. The potential tension “between innovation and efficiency-is one that’s bedeviling CEOs everywhere” (Hindo 2007). Two questions regarding the efficiency-innovation tradeoffs are especially intriguing to researchers and managers alike. First, to what extent are such tradeoffs driven by efficient firms’ lack of eagerness or willingness to innovate in the first place, or lack of ability to innovate and promote innovations? Second, can certain strategic marketing factors mitigate the tension of such tradeoffs? Indeed, anecdotal evidence indicates that not all firms that are efficient in their current business (e.g., Charles Schwab, Capital One) lack innovative thrust. In fact, efficient firms may actually be eager to innovate: Nokia, for instance, originally innovated an online “app store” service as well as touchscreen smartphones and Internet tablets in the 1990s and 2000s, much earlier than Apple (Ben-Aaron 2009; MobileGazzette 2008). Similarly, Polaroid was originally a pioneer in developing digital cameras and imaging services in the 1980s (Tripsas and Gavetti 2000). The eventual failures of Nokia’s and Polaroid’s innovation efforts, thus, do not seem to be due to their lack of eagerness to innovate, but perhaps the inability to manage the efficiency-innovation tension. In contrast, other companies seem to be able to manage this tension. For instance, in financial services, Charles Schwab is often commended both for its efficiency and its innovativeness, and the firm itself feels the “need to invest in innovation to maintain a competitive edge” (Gilson 2012). Against this backdrop, we focus on two questions: (1) What exactly are the tradeoffs and tensions between a firm’s existing efficiency, innovativeness in its new offerings, and new offering performance? And (2) how can strategic marketing assets such as customer base and advertising intensity mitigate the tradeoffs? Should such assets help to alleviate the inherent tension, they would give executives tools to pursue both efficiency and innovation at the same time and succeed with their new innovative offerings. Empirically, we focus on the service sector, whereby the actual technical development of innovations is not very costly in tangible financial terms (Crawford and di Benedetto 2008; Droege et al. 2009; Thomke 2003)-making the intangible firm capabilities most likely determinants of (innovation) performance rather than tangible resources (cf. Vorhies, Morgan, and Autry 2009). Therewith, we examine our research questions with a comprehensive census dataset of all new service introductions (n≈500) in one national market: The Finnish mutual funds industry (1997-2010). The sector of financial services is especially relevant for the efficiency-innovation tradeoffs because in this sector, many firms are compelled to engage in both efficient operations and effective (financial) innovations. Our empirical focus on all firms in one market precisely identifies and measures the efficiency levels of all competing firms, relative to the best-performing competitors, as well as innovativeness (earliness) in introducing new services compared to all rivals. For a marketing perspective, we focus on firms’ existing customer-perceived service efficiency (over the entire portfolio of existing services, i.e., funds)-defined through the ratio of output value that customers obtain from the firms’ current services to the (customer) cost inputs. We also carefully delineate between (a) innovativeness of a new service introduction and (b) its performance. Doing so can reveal the potentially contradictory effects of existing efficiency on new service innovativeness (willingness to innovate) vis-à-vis new service performance (ability to make innovations succeed). As our key results, we firstly identify and explicate the baseline efficiency-innovation tradeoffs. Specifically, our results suggest that while existing service efficiency increases the innovativeness of new services introduced by the firm, it simultaneously (1) leads to decreased business performance for the new services introduced and (2) diminishes the positive influence of innovativeness on performance. In sum, these findings imply that on the baseline, highly efficient service firms may be too eager to innovate, considering the sub-par performance they are likely to receive for those innovations. Secondly, our results reveal two strategic marketing factors, which have the potential to mitigate the tradeoffs. We find that the firm’s (a) focused customer base and (b) high advertising intensity can nullify the negative effect of existing service efficiency on innovativeness and the negative moderating effect of efficiency on the innovativeness-performance link.

Mechanical analysis of functionally graded spherical panel resting on elastic foundation under external pressure

        Yan Cao,Xueming Qian,Qingming Fan,Farbod Ebrahimi 국제구조공학회 2020 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.74 No.2

The main purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of external pressure on the vibration and buckling of functionally graded (FG) spherical panels resting of elastic medium. The material characteristics of the FG sphere continuously vary through the thickness direction based on the power-law rule. In accordance with first-order shear deformation shell theory and by the use of Ritz formulation the governing equations are presented. In this regard, the beam functions are applied in two-dimensions for different sets of boundary supports. The Winkler and Pasternak models of elastic foundations are also taken into account. In order to show the validity and applicability of the presented formulation, various comparison studies are given. Furthermore, a diverse range of numerical results is reported to check the impacts of geometrical and material parameters along with external pressure on the vibration and buckling analysis of FG spherical panels.

Building Energetic Material from Novel Salix Leaf-like CuO and Nano-Al through Electrophoretic Deposition

Yanjun Yin,Xueming Li 대한화학회 2016 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.37 No.11

In this study, an energetic material was prepared by depositing nano-Al on CuO arrays via electrophoretic deposition (EPD), which offers a feasible route for nano-Al integration. The morphology and structure of the CuO arrays and Al/CuO composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The CuO arrays were homogenously salix leaf-like structure with a width of ~150 to 200 nm. The energy density of Al/CuO composites was approximate to 1454.5 J/g by integrating the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) plot and the combustion performance was recorded by a high-speed camera. Moreover, the combustion flames were violent and the whole reaction process only lasted 72.2 ms, indicating that the energy of the Al/CuO nanothermite can be released effectively.

A Distributed Implementation Algorithm for Physical Layer Security Based on Untrusted Relay Cooperation and Artificial Noise

        Xiangyu Li,Xueming Wang,Xiangyang Xu,Liang Jin 한국전자통신연구원 2014 ETRI Journal Vol.36 No.1

In this letter, we consider a cooperation system with multipleuntrusted relays (URs). To keep the transmitted informationconfidential, we obtain joint channel characteristics (JCCs)through combining the channels from the source to thedestination. Then, in the null space of the JCCs, jammersconstruct artificial noise to confuse URs when the source nodebroadcasts its data. Through a distributed implementationalgorithm, the weight of each node can be obtained from itsown channel state information. Simulation results show thathigh-level security of the system can be achieved when internaland external eavesdroppers coexist.

Use of multiple inter-reboilers to achieve energy savings and improve thermodynamic efficiency of the distillation of N,N-dimethylformamide wastewater

        Xiaoxin Gao,Xueming Yin,Song Yang,Deming Yang 한국화학공학회 2019 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.36 No.1

The purification of N,N-dimethylformamide wastewater involves an energy intensive distillation process. We propose a novel energy-saving process scheme involving multiple inter-reboilers sed. In this scheme, ideal thermodynamic model non-random two liquid (NRTL) model was used to calculate the phase equilibrium using Aspen Plus platform. While the relationship between important process parameters and energy consumption by the distillation process was studied, several parameters such as the most suitable positions for the inter-reboilers and the most reasonable steam extraction rates were obtained. The feasibility was detected under the same separation duties and main technological structure. For 10wt% DMF wastewater, the inter-reboilers were installed on the 37th, 38th and 39th plates, while the corresponding heat transferred values were 3,038 kW, 91 kW and 179kW, respectively. In comparison to the conventional distillation process, an energy consumption of 77.43% and thermodynamic efficiency of 65.69% were obtained. For 20 wt% DMF wastewater, the inter-reboilers were installed on the 21st and 25th plate, while the corresponding values for the heat transferred were 1,632kW, and 1,450kW, respectively. In comparison to the conventional distillation process, the energy consumption can be reduced by 71.31%, while the thermodynamic efficiency can be improved by 47.10%.

        Left quasi-abundant semigroups

        Zhulin Ji,Xueming Ren,Yanhui Wang 대한수학회 2019 대한수학회지 Vol.56 No.5

A semigroup $S$ is called a weakly abundant semigroup if its every $\widetilde{\mathcal{L}}$-class and every $\widetilde{\mathcal{R}}$-class contains an idempotent. Our purpose is to study an analogue of orthodox semigroups in the class of weakly abundant semigroups. Such an analogue is called a left quasi-abundant semigroup, which is a weakly abundant semigroup with a left quasi-normal band of idempotents and having the congruence condition (C). To build our main structure theorem for left quasi-abundant semigroups, we first give a sufficient and necessary condition of the idempotent set $E(S)$ of a weakly abundant semigroup $S$ being a left quasi-normal band. And then we construct a left quasi-abundant semigroup in terms of weak spined products. Such a result is a generalisation of that of Guo and Shum for left semi-perfect abundant semigroups. In addition, we consider a type $Q$ semigroup which is a left quasi-abundant semigroup having the PC condition.
