      • The Historical Context and Characteristics of Theravada Buddhism Cultural Communication Between Yunnan and Southeast Asia

        The Dai-Tai Ethnic Groups in Yunnan and Southeast Asia are characterized by geographical proximity, close ethnic ties and common cultural ties. The Theravada Buddhism in China come down in one continuous line with it in Southeast Asia, which forms the Theravada Buddhism Cultural Circle in Southeast Asia . This natural golden bond has made the Buddhist cultural communication between the two sides go back to ancient times. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the formation history of Dai-Tai Ethnic Cultural Circle and Southeast Asian Buddhist Cultural circle through relevant historical documents, and trace the historical and cultural background of the cultural exchanges between Yunnan, China and Theravada Buddhism, Southeast Asia. Through limited local chronicles, ethnography and oral historical data, this paper combs the historical memory of cultural exchanges between Yunnan and Southeast Asia Theravada Buddhism, clarifies the historical context of cultural communication between Yunnan and Southeast Asia Theravada Buddhism, analyzes the characteristics of cultural interactions between Yunnan and Southeast Asia Theravada Buddhism. By examining the history and present situation, with a view to providing useful academic support and ideological reference for promoting international cultural exchanges between Yunnan and Southeast Asia.

        The Improvement of Stability, Activity, and Substrate Promiscuity of Glycerol Dehydrogenase Substituted by Divalent Metal Ions

        The substitution of the catalytic zinc ion of glycerol dehydrogenase (GDH) from Klebsiella pneumonia sp. by divalent metal ions, Mn2+ and Mg2+, enabled improvements of activity, substrate promiscuity and stability. The activity of Mn-GDH and Mg-GDH improved several folds in comparison to the native GDH. The activity of substituted GDH towards non-natural substrates, 4-chloroacetoacetate,3-chloroacetylpyridine, p-chloroacetophenone, and acetophenone was 30 folds higher than native GDH. Manganese substitution increased the half-life of GDH by 6 folds at 60and 70oC. The two-fraction first order inactivation models fitted the nonlinear thermal inactivation curves well. Combined with the kinetic and thermodynamic analysis,further mechanistic insights to the metal ion roles in thermostability enhancements were studied. The thermodynamic parameters of inactivation, enthalpy, entropy and the Gibbs free energy indicated that Mn-GDH was stabilized entropically and elucidated the mechanisms of enzyme inactivation.

        Mutations of ARX and non-syndromic intellectual disability in Chinese population

        Mutations of Aristaless-related homeobox (ARX) gene were looked as the third cause of non-syndromic intellectual disability (NSID), while the boundary between true disease-causing mutations and non-disease-causing variants within this gene remains elusive. To investigate the relationship between ARX mutations and NSID, a panel comprising six reported causal mutations of the ARX was detected in 369 sporadic NSID patients and 550 random participants in Chinese. Two mutations, c.428_451 dup and p.G286S, may be disease-causing mutations for NSID, while p.Q163R and p.P353L showed a great predictive value in female NSID diagnosis with significant associations (X2 = 19.60, p = 9.54e−6 for p.Q163R; X2 = 25.70, p = 4.00e−07 for p.P353L), carriers of these mutations had an increased risk of NSID of more than fourfold. Detection of this panel also predicted significant associations between genetic variants of the ARX gene and NSID (p = 3.73e−4). The present study emphasized the higher genetic burden of the ARX gene on NSID in the Chinese population, molecular analysis of this gene should be considered for patients presenting NSID of unknown etiology.

        Investigating the factors affecting the residential satisfaction of new-generation migrants: a case study of Hangzhou in China

        This paper examines the residential satisfaction of new-generation migrants in the Chinese context. The study uses the survey data of residential satisfaction of new-generation migrants in Hangzhou. The ordered logit model is employed to examine the factors affecting the residential satisfaction of new-generation migrants, a special group of the workforce in metropolitan cities of China. Unlike the previous studies of residential satisfaction of rural migrant workers in Chinese cities, we find that the residential satisfaction of new-generation migrants does follow the standard patterns identified in the literature; the socio-demographic attributes such as gender, education, income, housing characteristics of size and the quality of kitchen and sanitary facilities and neighbourhood environment and location factors such as the distance to work place, accessibility to employment and other location and the availability of entertaining amenities are significant determinants of residential satisfaction of new-generation migrants. Additionally, the institutional factors such as tenancy agreement signed with landlord and lease length, which provides tenants with residential stability and security have a significant impact on residential satisfaction. This finding has policy implication of regulating the growing rental housing market in China. This finding also complements the existing research on residential satisfaction.

        Calcium precipitation to remove fluorine in groundwater: Induced by Acinetobacter sp. H12 as a template

        Calcium precipitation induced by Acinetobacter sp. H12 can simultaneously remove F− and Ca2+. Adsorption kinetics and isotherm studies showed that the defluoridation effect improved with the increase of temperature and time. The equilibrium adsorption capacity of calcium precipitation was 7.43 mg g−1 at the initial F− concentration of 10 mg L−1. Moreover, as the pH increased, the F− adsorption capacity decreased and the Ca2+ removal rate gradually increased. The adsorption process was highly fitted to the pseudo-second-order and the Freundlich isotherm. Adsorption thermodynamics analysis demonstrated that the adsorption process was a spontaneous endothermic reaction. The activation adsorption energy was 2.81 kJ mol−1 and the frequency coefficient was 10.88 h−1. EEM, SEM, XPS. XRD results indicated that the defluoridation mechanism may be due to adsorption and co-precipitation. The mechanism of Ca2+ removal may be co-precipitation with F−. It is worth-mentioning that calcium precipitation overcame the problem of adding carbon sources and avoided the microbial safety risk in the effluent. Therefore, a new insight was proposed for simultaneous remediation of Ca2+ and F− from groundwater combining the biological and chemical method.

        Impacts of WRF Model Domain Size on Meiyu Rainfall Forecasts over Zhejiang, China

        We explore impacts of model domain size on rainfall forecasts over Zhejiang Province during the Meiyu season in this paper. The existing modeling system is based on the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF), which is referred to as the Zhejiang WRF with Advanced Data Assimilation System(ADAS) Real-time Modeling System (ZJWARMS). First, we identify the regions with large uncertainties of model forecasts using correlation analysis of different reanalysis datasets. Five key regions affecting precipitation in Zhejiang are identified by calculating the correlation-coefficients between precipitation in Zhejiang and largescale atmospheric factors. A new WRF model domain, called ZJdomain, is then chosen to cover the key regions and to avoid the regions with large uncertainties. To evaluate the differences of precipitation forecasts in each precipitation category between using the new domain, ZJdomain, and using the current operational model domain, ZJWARMS, two sets of experiments are conducted, including two case studies and a batch test based on daily 72-h forecasts. The results suggest that the ZJdomain can better simulate the key weather systems and their associated precipitation in Zhejiang. Quantitative tests of different-category precipitation also show that the equivalent threat score (ETS) increases significantly, and the frequency of missed (FOM) and the false alarm ratio (FAR) decrease with varying degrees. In the batch test, the ETSs of the torrential rain in forecasts with the lead times of 24–48 h and 48–72 h increase by 100.3% and 62.1%, respectively. Compared with the Shanghai Meteorological Service WRF ADAS Real-time Modeling System version 2.0 (SMSWARMS), it is found that the unsuitable WRF model domain is one of the main reasons that the precipitation forecast error of ZJWARMS is always larger than that of SMSWARMS. This study demonstrates that the selection of a suitable model domain is a key to improve the forecast of regional operational numerical weather prediction systems.

      • Molecular Cloning, Characterization and Functional Analysis of a 2C-methyl-D-erythritol 2, 4-cyclodiphosphate Synthase Gene from Ginkgo biloba

        2C-methyl-D-erythritol 2, 4-cyclodiphosphate synthase (MECPS, EC: 4.6.1.12) is the fifth enzyme of the non-mevalonate terpenoid pathway for isopentenyl diphosphate biosynthesis and is involved in the methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway for ginkgolide biosynthesis. The full-length mecps cDNA sequence (designated as Gbmecps) was cloned and characterized for the first time from gymnosperm plant species, Ginkgo biloba, using RACE (rapid amplification of cDNA ends) technique. The full-length cDNA of Gbmecps was 874 bp containing a 720 bp open reading frame (ORF) encoding a peptide of 239 amino acids with a calculated molecular mass of 26.03 kDa and an isoelectric point of 8.83. Comparative and bioinformatic analyses revealed that GbMECPS showed extensive homology with MECPSs from other species and contained conserved residues owned by the MECPS protein family. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that GbMECPS was more ancient than other plant MECPSs. Tissue expression pattern analysis indicated that GbMECPS expressed the highest in roots, followed by in leaves, and the lowest in seeds. The color complementation assay indicated that GbMECPS could accelerate the accumulation of $\beta$-carotene. The cloning, characterization and functional analysis of GbMECPS will be helpful to understand more about the role of MECPS involved in the ginkgolides biosynthesis at the molecular level.

        An Efficient Broadcast Authentication Scheme with Batch Verification for ADS-B Messages

        As a cornerstone of the next generation air traffic management (ATM), automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) system can provide continual broadcast of aircraft position, identity, velocity and other messages over unencrypted data links to generate a common situational awareness picture for ATM. However, since ADS-B messages are unauthenticated, it is easy to insert fake aircrafts into the system via spoofing or insertion of false messages. Unfortunately, the authentication for ADS-B messages has not yet been well studied. In this paper, we propose an efficient broadcast authentication scheme with batch verification for ADS-B messages which employs an identity-based signature (IBS). Security analysis indicates that our scheme can achieve integrity and authenticity of ADS-B messages, batch verification, and resilience to key leakage. Performance evaluation demonstrates that our scheme is computationally efficient for the typical avionics devices with limited resources, and it has low communication overhead well suitable for low-bandwidth ADS-B data link.
