Background Numerous circular RNAs (circRNAs) are functionally investigated in human cancers. However, there are still a large number of circRNAs with unclear functions. Objective The objective of this study was to determine the role of circ_0101622 in thyroid cancer. The expression of circ_0101622, microRNA-1179 (miR-1179), and Ras-associated binding protein 23 (RAB23) was measured using quantitative real-time PCR method. The protein levels of E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and RAB23 were detected by western blot. For functional analyses, cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion were assessed using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, flow cytometry assay, wound-healing assay, and Transwell assay, respectively. Glycolysis was assessed by glucose consumption and lactate production. The binding between miR-1179 and circ_0101622 or RAB23 was determined by dualluciferase reporter assay and RIP assay. Animal study was performed to verify the role of circ_0101622. Circ_0101622 showed high expression in thyroid cancer tissues and cells. Results Circ_0101622 knockdown inhibited cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and glycolysis metabolism in vitro and blocked tumor growth in vivo. Mechanism analysis found that circ_0101622 functioned as miR-1179 sponge to release RAB23. Circ_0101622 knockdown inhibited cancer development by enriching miR-1179, and miR-1179 restoration inhibited cancer development by sequestering RAB23. Conclusion Circ_0101622 might act as an oncogenic driver to promote the malignant progression of thyroid cancer by mediating the miR-1179/RAB23 pathway.

Based on the dispersive feature of the dielectric function of noble metals and the wave vector conservation in physics, both the plasma effect and the complex refractive index, which are profoundly correlated to the complex dielectric function and permeability, have been studied and analyzed. The condition to induce a bulk or a surface plasma in the visible region will not be satisfied, and there will be one solution for the real and the imaginary parts of the refractive index, restricting it only to region I of the complex plane. The results given in this work will aid in understanding the properties of light transmission at the metal/dielectric interface as characterized by the law of refraction in nature.
Meromorphic functions sharing four values with their difference operators or shifts

We prove a uniqueness theorem of nonconstant meromorphic functions sharing three distinct values IM and a fourth value CM with their shifts, and prove a uniqueness theorem of nonconstant entire functions sharing two distinct small functions IM with their shifts, which respectively improve Corollary 3.3(a) and Corollary 2.2(a) from \cite{12}, where the meromorphic functions and the entire functions are of hyper order less than $1.$ An example is provided to show that the above results are the best possible. We also prove two uniqueness theorems of nonconstant meromorphic functions sharing four distinct values with their difference operators.

Under the restriction of finite order, we prove two uniqueness theorems of nonconstant meromorphic functions sharing three values with their difference operators, which are counterparts of Theorem 2.1 in [6] for a finite-order meromorphic function and its shift operator.

The influence of an Al interlayer on the crystalline quality and surface morphology of AlN epitaxial layers is investigated. 100 nm thick (0002) oriented AlN layers were grown on Si (111) substrates by metal organic chemical vapor deposition. Al interlayers were introduced through Al soaking, followed by nitridation for different lengths of time. When the nitridation time was 0 s, the AlN surface was uneven. At a nitridation time of 15 s, the AlN epilayer started to transform into a smooth surface. When the nitridation time was increased to 40 s, the AlN films had rough surfaces. X-ray diffraction measurements showed that the full width at half maximum of the (0002) peak decreased to 801.9 arcsec by introducing the Al interlayer for a nitridation time of 25 s. The roughness of the AlN surface was reduced from 5.30 nm to 1.91 nm compared with the films without an Al interlayer. The Al interlayer improved the crystalline quality and surface roughness of the AlN films. An optimized nitridation time was important in achieving an appropriate surface roughness for high quality crystals of AlN on Si (111) surfaces.

We study the normality of families of meromorphic functions sharing a set consisting of two or three distinct finite values to improve and extend Theorem 1 in Liu-Pang [15] and Theorem 1.1 in Liu-Chang [16]. Examples are provided to show that the results in this paper, in a sense, are the best possible.
