        Experimental Study on Static and Fatigue Performance of Uplift-Restricted and Slip-Permitted Connectors

        The uplift-restricted and slip-permitted (Referred to as “URSP”) connector is a new type of structure applied in the negative bending moment region of continuous steel–concrete composite beams. The application of the URSP connector can effectively releases the shear stress between the interface of composite beam, enhances the interface slip capacity, and then improves the crack resistance of concrete slab. In order to investigate the static and fatigue performance of the URSP connector, static and cyclic loading tests were carried out on two and six tensile specimens respectively. Through the experimental study, the following conclusions are obtained: (1) The static failure mode of the URSP connector is connector tensile yielding, the fatigue failure modes include tensile yield of connector and punching shear failure of concrete. (2) The fatigue stress amplitude played a decisive role in the fatigue life of the URSP connector, the fatigue life decreased sharply with the increase of the stress amplitude. Finally, the failure mechanism and S–N curve of URSP are obtained.

        Age quadratically affects intestinal calcium and phosphorus transporter gene expression in broiler chickens

        Objective: This research aimed to evaluate the effects of age on growth, tibia development, and intestinal calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) transporter gene expressions in broiler chickens. Methods: A total of 224 male Arbor Acres broilers were fed with nutrient-adequate diets and reared in eight cages (28 broilers per cage). Eight broilers (one broiler per cage) were selected and killed at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 days of age, respectively. Results: Body weight continuously increased with age of broiler chickens from 5 to 40 days. The bone weight, ash weight, diameter, and length of the tibia also increased with broiler age. By contrast, the tibia ash, Ca, and P percentages quadratically changed with age (p<0.001), and the highest values of mineral contents were observed at 20, 25, and 25 days of age, respectively. The mRNA abundances of calcium-binding protein 28-kDa (CaBP-D28k), sodium-calcium exchanger 1 (NCX1), and plasma membrane ATPase 1b (PMCA1b) increased from 5 to 25 days and then decreased up to 40 days. Similar results were noted in the mRNA abundances of IIb sodium-phosphate cotransporter (NaPi-IIb), inorganic phosphate transporter 1 (PiT-1), inorganic phosphate transporter 2 (PiT-2), nuclear vitamin D receptor (nVDR), and membrane vitamin D receptor (mVDR). The mRNA abundances of Ca and P transporters and VDRs were the highest at 25 days of age. Conclusion: These data indicate that age quadratically affects intestinal Ca and P transporter gene expression and mineral absorption capacity in broiler chickens.

        Effective removal of arsenide from aqueous solutions using mesoporous CoFe2O4/graphene oxide nanocomposites assisted by artificial intelligence

        This study investigated the arsenide removal by using mesoporous CoFe2O4/graphene oxide nanocomposites based on batch experiments optimized by artifcial intelligence tools. These nanocomposites were prepared by immobilizing cobalt ferrite on graphene oxide and then characterized using various techniques, including small angle X-ray difraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Artifcial intelligence tools associated with response surface methodology were employed to optimize the conditions of the arsenide removal process. The results showed that back propagation neural network combined with genetic algorithm was suitable for the arsenide removal from aqueous solutions by the nanocomposites based on the minimum average values of absolute errors and the value of R2 . The optimal values of the four variables (operating temperature, initial pH, initial arsenide concentration, and contact time) were found to be 25.66 °C, 7.58, 10.78 mg/L and 46.41 min, and the predicted arsenide removal percentage was 84.78%. The verifcation experiment showed that the arsenide removal percentage was 86.62%, which was close to the predicted value. Three evaluation methods (gradient boosted regression trees, Garson method and analysis of variance) all demonstrated that the temperature was the most important explanatory variable for the arsenide removal. In addition, the arsenide removal process can be depicted with pseudo-second-order kinetics model and Langmuir isotherm, respectively. The thermodynamics investigation disclosed that the adsorption process was of a spontaneously endothermic nature. In summary, this study showed that ANN-GA was an efcient and feasible method in determining the optimum conditions for arsenic removal by CoFe2O4/graphene oxide nanocomposites.

      • The Study of the Influence of Lao Zi's Philosophy on Chinese Calligraphy Art

        【背景】随着中国传统文化在全球范围内的传播和影响力日益增强,老子哲学作为其核心思想之一,对书法艺术的深远影响日渐凸显。【目的】本研究旨在探索老子哲学思想对中国书法艺术的影响,并分析其在书法创作和艺术表达方式中的启示与指导。【方法】研究采用了文献研究、文化历史考察、案例研究和专家访谈等方法。【结果】老子哲学在中国书法艺术的审美观念中体现为追求自然与自然流动之美的共通性、强调虚实结合、气韵生动的艺术表达方式,以及意境与墨境的统一。在书法创作方面,老子哲学鼓励艺术家发掘自我,强调心境与创作境界的调整与净化,并倡导大道至简、去繁求简的艺术追求。经典书法作品的分析和书法家对老子哲学思想的引用与融入表明,老子哲学对书法艺术具有深远影响。【结论】老子哲学为中国书法艺术提供了理论基础和审美指导,对书法艺术家的创作实践有重要启示和引导作用。未来研究可以深化对老子哲学在全球化语境下对书法艺术及其他艺术领域的影响的理解。 [Background] With the increasing spread and influence of Chinese traditional culture in the world, Lao Tzu's philosophy, as one of its core ideas, has an increasingly profound influence on the art of calligraphy. [Objective] This study aims to explore the influence of Laozi's philosophy on Chinese calligraphy art, and to analyze its enlightenment and guidance in calligraphy creation and artistic expression. [Medhoes] The study used literature research, cultural and historical investigation, case study and expert interviews. [Results] The results show that Laozi philosophy is embodied in the aesthetic concept of Chinese calligraphy art as pursuing the common beauty of natural and natural flow, emphasizing the combination of virtual and real, vivid artistic expression, as well as the unity of artistic conception and ink. In the aspect of calligraphy creation, Laozi's philosophy encourages artists to explore themselves, emphasizes the adjustment and purification of mood and creative realm, and advocates the artistic pursuit of reducing the road and simplifying the complex. The analysis of classical calligraphy works and the calligraphers 'quotation and integration of Laozi's philosophy show that Laozi's philosophy has a profound influence on the art of calligraphy. [Conclusion] The conclusion is that Lao Tzu's philosophy provides the theoretical basis and aesthetic guidance for Chinese calligraphy art, and has an important enlightenment and guiding role for the creative practice of calligraphy artists. Future research can deepen the understanding of the influence of Lao Tzu's philosophy on calligraphy art and other art fields in the context of globalization.

        Adverse effect of DEHP exposure on the serum insulin level of Balb/c mice

        Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is a common indoor pollutant in the world, which may cause lots of harmful effects in human including diabetes according to epidemiological studies. To explore the underlying role of DEHP in diabetes-like symptoms, Balb/c mice were chose to be the experimental animals in this paper. They were separated as eight groups as follows: (1) saline+normal diet (vehicle control), (2) 10 mg/kg.day DEHP+normal diet, (3) 50 mg/kg.day DEHP+normal diet, (4) 250 mg/kg.day DEHP+normal diet, (5) streptozotocin (STZ)+high fat diet (diabetes model), (6) 10 mg/kg.day DEHP+ STZ+high fat diet, (7) 50 mg/kg.day DEHP+STZ +high fat diet, (8) 250 mg/kg.day DEHP+STZ+high fat diet. The biomarkers of this experiment include four groups: (1) general indicates: body weight and drinking water, (2) blood biomarkers: serum insulin and fasting glucose, (3) pathological examination: pancreas section and kidney section, and (4) biomarkers of oxidative stress: reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver cells. Our study results demonstrate that: (1) at our treatment levels DEHP cannot directly induce diabetes, but reduce serum insulin level in DEHP-exposed non-STZ-treated animals, (2) pathological examination finds that these is a dose-dependent damage in the pancreas in DEHP- exposed STZ-treated groups, and (3) the oxidative mechanism may be involved in this pathological process.

      • Node Layout of Recycling Network for Cell Phones in China under the Third Party Logistics

        With the increasing acceleration of updating rate for mobile phones in China, the processing procedure of cell phones has aroused a problem for the whole society. Meantime, environmental pollution and waste of resources result from improper processing approaches of such products. In this paper, the processing modes and corresponding reverse logistics network are analyzed scientifically and completely in terms of recycling by the third party reverse logistics enterprises. Then, a mathematical programming model is proposed in the case of multi-varieties phones and stochastic circumstances to handle the problem of node arrangement and facility location, which taking both cost objective and environment objective into consideration. To combat the model, we design a hybrid intelligent algorithm consisting of genetic algorithm, stochastic simulation and linear programming. Finally a numerical example validates the feasibility of the model and sensitivity analysis is conducted to illustrate its reliability. Such method can be treated as a practice guideline and some suggestions regarding the layout construction are put forward in the end.

        Intestinal segment and vitamin D3 concentration affect gene expression levels of calcium and phosphorus transporters in broiler chickens

        Two experiments were conducted in this research. Experiment 1 investigated the spatial expression characteristics of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) transporters in the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum of 21-day-old broilers provided with adequate nutrient feed. Experiment 2 evaluated the effects of dietary vitamin D3 (VD3) concentration (0, 125, 250, 500, 1,000, and 2,000 IU/kg) on growth performance, bone development, and gene expression levels of intestinal Ca and P transporters in 1–21-day-old broilers provided with the negative control diet without supplemental VD3. Results in experiment 1 showed that the mRNA levels of calcium- binding protein 28-kDa (CaBP-D28k), sodium-calcium exchanger 1 (NCX1), plasma membrane calcium ATPase 1b (PMCA1b), and IIb sodium-phosphate cotransporter (NaPi-IIb) were the highest in the broiler duodenum. By contrast, the mRNA levels of inorganic phosphate transporter 1 (PiT-1) and 2 (PiT-2) were the highest in the ileum. Results in experiment 2 showed that adding 125 IU/kg VD3 increased body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), bone weight, and percentage and weight of Ca and P in the tibia and femur of 1–21-day-old broilers compared with the negative control diet (p < 0.05). The rise in dietary VD3 levels from 125 to 1,000 IU/kg further increased the BWG, FI, and weights of the bone, ash, Ca, and P (p < 0.05). No difference in growth rate and leg bone quality was noted in the broilers provided with 1,000 and 2,000 IU/kg VD3 (p > 0.05). Supplementation with 125–2,000 IU/kg VD3 increased the mRNA abundances of intestinal Ca and P transporters to varying degrees. The mRNA level of CaBP-D28k increased by 536, 1,161, and 28 folds in the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum, respectively, after adding 1,000 IU/kg VD3. The mRNA levels of other Ca and P transporters (PMCA1b, NCX1, NaPi-IIb, PiT-1, and PiT-2) increased by 0.57–1.74 folds by adding 1,000–2,000 IU/kg VD3. These data suggest that intestinal Ca and P transporters are mainly expressed in the duodenum of broilers. Moreover, the addition of VD3 stimulates the two mineral transporter transcription in broiler intestines.

        The effect of viscosity ratio on drop pinch-off dynamics in two-fluid flow

        Drop pinch-off draws a lot of interest from scientists and engineers because of widely practical applications as well as the fascinating mechanism of finite-time singularities and self-similar behavior. This work experimentally investigates the effect of viscosity ratio on the local pinch-off mechanism of liquid drops in both air and viscous fluids, with a high-speed camera. The results show that for 56 ≤ λ ≤ 6.3 × 103 and 0.009 ≤ λ ≤ 0.061, drop pinch-off exhibits self-similar profile which is asymmetric and conical away from hmin. Drop pinch-off in air with low viscosity ratios shows either in inertial regime (I) or transition from inertial to viscous regime (I→V). But the kinetics undergoes the inertial regime (I) to inertial-viscous regime (IV) through an intermediate viscous regime (V) when the viscosity ratio becomes larger. Drop pinch-off in viscous fluids displays the transition from inertial to viscous regime (I→V). These results agree well with Eggers’s universal solution until it becomes unstable and the previous literature. The viscosity ratio indeed affects the drop pinch-off dynamics as well as interface deformation. Our experiments enrich the understanding of the interaction between the internal and external fluids on drop pinch-off behavior near the singularity point.

        Cerebral Arterial Stiffness as Measured Based on the Pulse Wave Velocity Is Associated With Intracranial Artery Calcification in Patients With Acute Stroke

        Background and Purpose By measuring a newly defined parameter, the carotid–cerebral pulse wave velocity (ccPWV), this study aimed to determine the association of intracranial artery calcification (IAC) with arterial stiffness as reflected by the pulse wave velocity between the carotid and middle cerebral arteries using transcranial Doppler sonography in patients with acute stroke. Methods We recruited 146 patients with ischemic stroke from our stroke center. Computed tomography of the head was used to assess the presence and severity of IAC. Arterial stiffness was evaluated using ccPWV. Data are presented as quartiles of ccPWV. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to assess the independent relationship between ccPWV and IAC. Results The IAC prevalence increased with the ccPWV quartile, being 54%, 76%, 83%, and 89% for quartiles 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively (p<0.001) as did IAC scores, with median [interquartile range] values of 0 [0–2], 3 [2–4], 4 [2–5], and 5 [4–6], respectively (p<0.001). After additionally adjusting for age and hypertension, a significant correlation was only found between quartiles 3 and 4 of ccPWV and IAC scores. The odds ratio (95% confidence interval) for the IAC scores was 1.78 (1.28–2.50) (p=0.001) in quartile 4 of ccPWV and 1.45 (1.07–1.95) (p=0.015) in quartile 3 compared with quartile 1. Conclusions We found that in patients with acute ischemic stroke, ccPWV was positively related to the degree of IAC. Future longitudinal cohort studies may help to identify the potential role of IAC in the progression of cerebral arterial stiffness.
