      • C<sub>2</sub>H <i>N</i> = 1 − 0 and N<sub>2</sub>H<sup>+</sup><i>J</i> = 1 − 0 observations of <i>Planck</i> Galactic cold clumps

        <P>A survey of C2H <I>N</I> = 1 − 0 and N2H<SUP>+</SUP><I>J</I> = 1 − 0 toward <I>Planck</I> Galactic cold clumps (PGCCs) was performed using the Purple Mountain Observatory’s 13.7 m telescope. C2H and N2H<SUP>+</SUP> were chosen to study the chemical evolutionary states of PGCCs. Among 121 observed molecular cores associated with PGCCs, 71 and 58 are detected with C2H <I>N</I> = 1 − 0 and N2H<SUP>+</SUP><I>J</I> = 1 − 0, respectively. The detected lines of most sources can be fitted with a single component with compatible <I>V</I>LSR and line widths, which confirms that these PGCC cores are very cold (with gas temperatures 9-21 K) and quiescent while still dominanted by turbulence. The ratio between the column densities of C2H and N2H<SUP>+</SUP> (<I>N</I>(C2H)/<I>N</I>(N2H<SUP>+</SUP>)) is found to be a good tracer for the evolutionary states of PGCC cores. Gas-grain chemical model can reproduce the decreasing trend of <I>N</I>(C2H)/<I>N</I>(N2H<SUP>+</SUP>) as a function of time. The cores with the lowest abundances of N2H<SUP>+</SUP> (<I>X</I>[N2H<SUP>+</SUP>] < 10<SUP>−10</SUP>) are the youngest, and have nearly constant abundances of C2H. In evolved cores with <I>X</I>[N2H<SUP>+</SUP>] ~10<SUP>−9</SUP>, abundances of C2H drop quickly as the exhaustion of carbon atoms. Although these PGCC cores are in different evolutionary states, they are all quite young (< 5 × 10<SUP>5</SUP> yr) with <I>N</I>(C2H) > <I>N</I>(N2H<SUP>+</SUP>). Mapping observations are carried out toward 20 PGCC cores. The PGCC cores in Cepheus have lower <I>N</I>(C2H)/<I>N</I>(N2H<SUP>+</SUP>) and larger line widths compared with those in Taurus. This implies that PGCC cores in Taurus are less chemically evolved than those in Cepheus.</P>

      • Intronic variant of EGFR is associated with GBAS expression and survival outcome of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>Genome‐wide association studies have indicated that most of the currently identified disease and trait‐associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are intronic or intergenic. RegulomeDB is a recently developed database that provides functional annotations for regulatory features of SNPs located in non‐coding regions. We evaluated the potential regulatory SNPs in the <I>EGFR</I> gene region using RegulomeDB and their associations with prognosis after surgery in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>A total of 698 patients with surgically resected NSCLC were enrolled and seven SNPs were selected based on the RegulomeDB database. All SNPs were genotyped using SEQUENOM MassARRAY iPLEX assay.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Among the seven SNPs evaluated, rs9642391 (<I>EGFR</I> ivs19+2851C>G) was significantly associated with survival outcome (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] for overall survival = 0.70, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.56–0.87, <I>P</I> = 0.001; adjusted HR for disease‐free survival = 0.82, 95% CI 0.70–0.97, <I>P</I> = 0.02; under a codominant model). According to RegulomeDB, rs9642391C>G, which is located in intron 19 of <I>EGFR</I>, was predicted to influence the expression of <I>GBAS</I> but not <I>EGFR</I>. As predicted, rs9642391C>G was associated with <I>GBAS</I> (<I>P</I> = 0.024) but not <I>EGFR</I> messenger RNA expression in tumor tissues.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>In conclusion, our study provides evidence that rs9642391C>G in the intron of <I>EGFR</I> is associated with <I>GBAS</I> expression and survival outcomes of patients with surgically resected early‐stage NSCLC.</P>

        최근 조직구성원의 감성지능에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 조직생활에 있어서는 지적지능 외에 감성지능이 구성원의 관계형성이나 직무수행에 더 영향이 크며 그 결 과 직무만족도나 조직에 대한 태도에도 영향을 미치는 것으로 인식되고 있기 때문이다. 본 연구는 조직에서 구성원의 감성지능이 그들의 직무만족이나 조직에 대한 정서적 몰입에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하고자 하였다. 동시에 그 과정에서 구성원의 긍정적 정서와 부정적 정서의 조절효과도 조사하였다. 실증적 조사 결과 구성원의 감성지능은 그들의 직무만족과 정서적 몰입에 정(+) 의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 감성지능과 직무만족·정서적 몰입간의 관 계에서 긍정적 정서의 조절효과는 나타나지 않았으나 부정적 정서는 조절효과가 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 본 연구 결과는 조직에서 구성원의 감성지능을 높일 수 있는 실천적 방안 마련의 필요성과 함께 종업원 선발 시 선발요소로서 부정적 정서에 대한 특별한 고려가 필요 하다는 실천적 시사점을 제시해주고 있다. 주제어: 감성지능, 긍정적 정서, 부정적 정서, 직무만족, 정서적 몰입, 중국근로자 This study investigated the effect of emotional intelligence of employees on their job satisfaction and affective commitment. The moderating role of positive and negative affectivity at work was also analyzed in the relationships between them. Based on analysis of questionnaire survey obtained from 179 company employees, it was found that positive relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction, and affective commitment. The moderating role of positive affectivity in the relationships between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction, affective commitment was not found, but negative affectivity moderated the relationships between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction, affective commitment such that the relationship was weaker in the employees with high negative affectivity. Finally, some practical recommendations for increasing emotional intelligence and decreasing negative affectivity of employees in organizations were suggested.         최근 중국의 대학들에서도 창업에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 그러한 배경에는 심 화되고 있는 대학생의 취업난도 하나의 이유로 작용하고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 본 연구는 중국 남경심계대학교, 서북대학교, 황산대학교,남경항공 대학교 대학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 대학의 창업관련 지원이 중국대 학생들의 창업 관련된 태도나 행위 즉 창업의도, 위험회피, 자기효능감에 미치는 영향 을 실증연구를 통해서 구명하려는 목적을 지니고 있다. 대학의 창업 지원이 창업의지, 워럼감수성향, 자기효능감에 미치는 과정에서 멘토링의 매개효과를 분석하고자 하였다. 실증조사의 결과는 첫째, 대학의 창업지원(비스니스 개발 지원,컨셉트 개발 지원,교 육지원 )은 멘토링과 상관관계 관련되었다. 둘째, 멘토링은 창업지원과 창업의지,위험 감수성향, 자기 효능감간의 관계를 매개하였다. 본 연구결과는 중국 대학생의 창업을 촉진하기 위해서 대학생의 창업지원의 개선 이중요 하다는 점을 시사해주고 있다. 멘토링제도의 정립과 효과적 운용이 필수적이 라는 실천적 시사점을 제공하고 있다. 주제어: 대학 창업지원 제도, 멘토링, 자기 효능감, 위험 회피, 창업의도, 중국 The purpose of this study is to investigate empirically the impact of university support on entrepreneurial intention. self-efficacy and risk tolerance of university students in China. In this research the university support is conceptualized as three dimensional construct: business development support, concept development, education development. The questionnaire survey was administered to graduates in Chinese universities. The results showed that first, university support has a positive relationship to the mentoring. Second, mentoring also has a positive effect on the entrepreneurial intention,risk tolerance and self-efficacy. Third, mentoring mediates the relationship between university support and entrepreneurial intention. self-efficacy, risk tolerance. Finally, some practical recommendations for developing university support, formal mentoring and entrepreneurial intention for the graduates who want to create business are suggested.       • Protein‐Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Ameliorate Cognitive Dysfunction and Reduce Aβ Deposition in a Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Transplantation of stem cells into the brain attenuates functional deficits in the central nervous system via cell replacement, the release of specific neurotransmitters, and the production of neurotrophic factors. To identify patient‐specific and safe stem cells for treating Alzheimer's disease (AD), we generated induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) derived from mouse skin fibroblasts by treating protein extracts of embryonic stem cells. These reprogrammed cells were pluripotent but nontumorigenic. Here, we report that protein‐iPSCs differentiated into glial cells and decreased plaque depositions in the 5XFAD transgenic AD mouse model. We also found that transplanted protein‐iPSCs mitigated the cognitive dysfunction observed in these mice. Proteomic analysis revealed that oligodendrocyte‐related genes were upregulated in brains injected with protein‐iPSCs, providing new insights into the potential function of protein‐iPSCs. Taken together, our data indicate that protein‐iPSCs might be a promising therapeutic approach for AD.       • Upregulated microRNA‐193a‐3p is responsible for cisplatin resistance in CD 44(+) gastric cancer cells

        <P>Cisplatin is a well‐known anticancer drug used to treat various cancers. However, development of cisplatin resistance has hindered the efficiency of this drug in cancer treatment. Development of chemoresistance is known to involve many signaling pathways. Recent attention has focused on microRNAs (miRNAs) as potentially important upstream regulators in the development of chemoresistance. CD44 is one of the gastric cancer stem cell markers and plays a role in regulating self‐renewal, tumor initiation, metastasis and chemoresistance. The purpose of the present study was to examine the mechanism of miRNA‐mediated chemoresistance to cisplatin in CD44‐positive gastric cancer stem cells. We sorted gastric cancer cells according to level of CD44 expression by FACS and analyzed their miRNA expression profiles by microarray analysis. We found that miR‐193a‐3p was significantly upregulated in CD44(+) cells compared with CD44(−) cells. Moreover, SRSF2 of miR‐193a‐3p target gene was downregulated in CD44(+) cells. We studied the modulation of Bcl‐X and caspase 9 mRNA splicing by SRSF2 and found that more pro‐apoptotic variants of these genes were generated. We also found that downstream anti‐apoptotic genes such as Bcl‐2 were upregulated, whereas pro‐apoptotic genes such as Bax and cytochrome C were downregulated in CD44(+) cells compared to CD44(−) cells. In addition, we found that an elevated level of miR‐193a‐3p triggered the development of cisplatin resistance in CD44(+) cells. Inhibition of miR‐193a‐3p in CD44(+) cells increased SRSF2 expression and also altered the levels of multiple apoptotic genes. Furthermore, inhibition of miR‐193a‐3p reduced cell viability and increased the number of apoptotic cells. Therefore, miR‐193a‐3p may be implicated in the development of cisplatin resistance through regulation of the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. miR‐193a‐3p could be a promising target for cancer therapy in cisplatin‐resistant gastric cancer.</P>

        Photoelectrochemical H <sub>2</sub> Evolution with a Hydrogenase Immobilized on a TiO <sub>2</sub> ‐Protected Silicon Electrode

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The combination of enzymes with semiconductors enables the photoelectrochemical characterization of electron‐transfer processes at highly active and well‐defined catalytic sites on a light‐harvesting electrode surface. Herein, we report the integration of a hydrogenase on a TiO<SUB>2</SUB>‐coated p‐Si photocathode for the photo‐reduction of protons to H<SUB>2</SUB>. The immobilized hydrogenase exhibits activity on Si attributable to a bifunctional TiO<SUB>2</SUB> layer, which protects the Si electrode from oxidation and acts as a biocompatible support layer for the productive adsorption of the enzyme. The p‐Si|TiO<SUB>2</SUB>|hydrogenase photocathode displays visible‐light driven production of H<SUB>2</SUB> at an energy‐storing, positive electrochemical potential and an essentially quantitative faradaic efficiency. We have thus established a widely applicable platform to wire redox enzymes in an active configuration on a p‐type semiconductor photocathode through the engineering of the enzyme–materials interface.</P>

© 2010 John Wiley & Sons A/S.</P><P><B>Background – </B> It has not been clarified whether the disparity in ischemic stroke outcome between populations is caused by ethnic and geographic differences or by variations in case mix. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis can overcome some analytical problems but is rarely used in stroke outcome research. This study was to compare the ischemic stroke case‐fatality between two PSM cohorts of Sweden and Korea.</P><P><B>Methods – </B> Prognostic variables related to baseline characteristics and stroke care were included in our PSM model. Then, we selected 7675 Swedish and 1220 Korean patients with ischemic stroke from each stroke registers and performed one‐to‐one matching based on propensity scores of each patient.</P><P><B>Results – </B> After PSM, all measured variables were well balanced in 1163 matched subjects, and the 90‐day case‐fatality was identical 6.2% (HR 0.997, 95%CI 0.905–1.099) in Sweden and Korea.</P><P><B>Conclusions – </B> No difference is found in the 90‐day case‐fatality in propensity score‐matched Swedish and Korean patients with ischemic stroke.</P>

        Estimation of the 6‐digit level allele and haplotype frequencies of HLA‐A, ‐B, and ‐C in Koreans using ambiguity‐solving DNA typing

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Because Korean society is fast becoming multi‐ethnic, the determination of ambiguous human leukocyte antigen (HLA) types using HLA allele frequencies is becoming less applicable. In this study, we focused on the development of new technical methods to directly resolve the ambiguities arising from HLA genotyping. One hundred and fifty unrelated healthy Korean adults were included in this study. All alleles from each HLA locus were first divided into 2–4 groups, with each group amplified in a single PCR tube (multi‐group‐specific amplification, MGSA). To resolve phase ambiguities, some allele groups were also amplified separately in small group‐specific amplification (SGSA) tubes. In order to then resolve incomplete sequence ambiguities, primers for MGSA and SGSA were initially designed to cover additional exons. If needed, a heterozygous ambiguity resolving primer (HARP) or sequence specific primer (SSP) was also used. When MGSA and SGSA methods were applied, the rate of phase ambiguity was greatly reduced to an average of 6% (1.3% in HLA‐A, 15.7% in ‐B, and 2.0% in ‐C). Additional HARP and SSP methods could resolve all the phase ambiguities. Using our proposed method, we also detected three alleles that have not been previously reported in Korea, <I>C*04:82</I>, <I>C*07:18</I>, and <I>C*08:22</I>, and report 6‐digit level HLA allele and haplotype frequencies among Koreans. In conclusion, the use of MGSA/SGSA for the initial amplification step is a cost‐effective method facilitating timely and accurate reporting, given the continuing increase in the ethnic diversity of the Korean population. The MGSA described here can be applicable to various populations and thus could be shared by the majority of HLA typing laboratories. However, efforts to solve HLA ambiguity should continue, because SGSA, HARPs and SSPs would be specific to a particular population.</P>
