        A Clinical Study on Measuring Method of the Salivary Flow

        Objective: The authors measured salivary flow by using a number of known methods and analyzed the co-relations between the methods to find out the most useful salivary flow test method which could be clinically applied. Methods: To this end, the author selected 90 applicants, of which 30 applicants were teens, 30 were in their 20's/30's and the remaining 30 were in their 50's/60's, and then the author conducted an oral exam and salivary test to the applicants. Results: The result of the salivary test reveals that the gender does not have influence (p>0.05). Age was the factor that influences Periotron measurement value, stimulated salivary flow, unstimulated salivary flow, salivary viscosity, moisture paper measurement value among other saliva related values (p<0.05). There was a valid co-relations (r=0.395) between stimulated salivary flow and Periotron measurement value (p<0.01). There was a valid co-relations (r=0.395) between stimulated salivary flow and mouth dryness measurement with moisture paper (p<0.01). Conclusion: Since it was found that there was a co-relation between stimulated salivary flow and mouth dryness with moisture paper, it can be concluded that mouth dryness can be measured clinically simply with moisture paper.

        Association between Fasting Blood Glucose Levels and Arterial Stiffness in Healthy Korean Men and Women

        Background: Increased fasting blood glucose (FBG) level and obesity can be associated with the progression of arterial stiffness, which is an early marker of atherosclerosis. Measuring pulse wave velocity (PWV) is a non-invasive method to evaluate vessel wallstiffness. Objective: The objective was to determine the association of FBG levels and obesity with peripheral PWV considering insulin resistance. Methods: Across-sectional study was conducted in 2006. Waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), and PWV were measured in 3,390 healthy Korean men and women. Multiple linear regression models were used to assess the association between FBG levels and peripheral PWV. The population was classi- fied into two groups according to median insulin resistance values (homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance [HOMA-IR]). Results: Peripheral PWV was significantly associated with BMI and systolic blood pressure in men and women, respectively, after adjusting for age, lipid levels, and HOMA-IR (Table 3). WCwas associated with peripheral PWV only in women ( p=0.006). The relationship between peripheral PWV and FBG in women was significant in subjects with HOMA-IR < 0.725 (p= 0.015). Conclusions: These results suggest that FBG levels and waist circumference are associated with peripheral PWV in Korean women. Further studies should be performed in other populations to confirm the association between FBG levels and PWV considering insulin resistance.

        융자수혜업체 경영성과에 대한 스포츠산업 융자사업의 효과: 수익성비율 분석 및 심층면접

        이 연구는 스포츠산업 융자사업 융자수혜업체들의 재무상태와 경영성과를 분석하여 영세한 스포츠관련 업체들의 효과적인지원 방안과 스포츠산업체의 경쟁력 강화를 도모하는데 있다. 이를 위해 융자지원을 받은 체육시설 2개 업체와 체육용구생산 2개 업체를 대상으로 이 업체들의 융자수혜 이후 3년 동안의 매출액순익률과 자기자본순이익률의 수익성비율 분석을 통해 재무구조와 수익성변화 추이를 분석하였다. 또한 이들 업체의 임직원들과 스포츠산업지원팀 주임을 대상으로 융자사업에대한 보완점을 규명하고자 심층면접을 통해 의미 있는 결과를 도출하였다. 1개 업체를 제외한 나머지 업체들은 전반적으로 융자사업이 융자수혜업체들의 자기자본순이익률과 매출액순이익률을 증대시키는 것에 크게 기여하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 심층면접에 참여한 업체들은 현행 융자거치기간에 대해 기간의 연장을, 융자한도액에 대해서는 한도액의 확대를, 융자이자율에 대해서는 이자율의 낮춤을 요구하였다. 따라서 각 융자대상별, 융자분야별 담보, 신용위험과 성장가능성, 수익성 및 정책적 지원 필요성 등을 기초로 포트폴리오를 구성하고, 이들 포트폴리오 별로 상환가능성과 융자규모에 따른 실질적인 융자 금리를 차등 적용하는 방안을 제시하였다. There are two main purposes of this study. The first purpose is to investigate how the sports industry loan program has contributed to sports-related firms’ financial status and performance. The second purpose is to describe potential problems of the loan program by conducting in-depth interview. Particularly, four sports-related companies (two sport facilities and two sport equipment companies) were chosen to examine their business performances and financial statuses, and the executives of these four companies and a manager of the Department of Industrial Support at the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation were interviewed to explore potential problems of the loan program. These firms’ financial structure and changes in their revenues were analyzed by three-year return on equity (ROA) and net profit margin (NPM) after receiving the funds. The authors of this study concluded that the loan program seems to contribute to increases in ROA and NPM of some of the four companies. However, these companies`` profitabilities seem to be partially affected by their debt ratios. Additionally, the executives of the companies who were interviewed strongly suggested an extension of the grace period, increases in the loan limits, and a lower interest rate.

      • Microwave-assisted green leaching of platinum group metals using ionic liquids with low dielectric constants from spent automotive catalysts

        Recovery of precious metals from waste is important in terms of resource security and environmental prevention. Leaching is an essential step in hydrometallurgy. Microwave irradiation was used as one of the methods to accelerate the leaching rate and efficiency. However, because the dielectric constant of the commonly used leachate is high, most of the microwave energy is not properly transmitted to the target waste. To overcome this limitation, we propose ionic liquids with a low dielectric constant as an alternative leaching agent. Ionic liquids are known to be environmentally friendly due to their low vapor pressure and high thermal stability and composed of only ions, leading to high solubility in metal ions. Thirty kinds of hydrophobic ionic liquids were chosen from among numerous candidates according to the dielectric constants which are estimated using a linear free energy relationship model with in silico calculated descriptors. Among them, trioctyl-methylammonium chloride was selected because its dielectric constant is the lowest (ε = 9.0). The ionic liquid along with organic acid as an additive was used for microwave leaching of platinum group metals from spent automotive catalysts. As a result, the leaching efficiencies of Pd(II) and Pt(IV) within 1 hour were 95.7±1.5% and 88.3±1.1%, respectively, which are similar to leaching performance using aqua regia. The proposed leaching method is expected to have great potential as a green urban mining technology without using highly toxic acids and organic solvents.

      • Driven-Right-Leg 회로 개선에 의한 접지접촉 간섭파 제거에 관한 연구

        Abstract - This study describes a method developed to reduce electromagnetic interference induced to bio-potential ECG amplifier with the Driven -Right-Leg circuit when human body contacts earth ground, accidentally. Since the contact between body and earth ground disturbs the presumed operation of the Driven-Right-Leg circuit, the ECG signal includes serious interference level, preventing ECG signal analysis by formal methods. To decrease the current flow to the Driven-Right-Leg circuit, a resistor is added between the output of the circuit and the amplifier common. Experiment has shown that the modified circuit reduces the interference level significantly both during body contact to earth ground (~1/5) and during without contact(~1/2).

        우리나라 항공운송 및 항공우주산업의 역량에 비해 국내 에어쇼는 지자체의 소규모 전시성 행사에 그치고 있어, 항공위상에 걸맞은 전문적인 에어쇼 행사가 필요한 시점이다. 차별회된 에어쇼를 기획 운영한다고 하지만, 국내의 지역적 축제형태를 넘어서는 국제적인 에어쇼로 성정하는 데는 여러 가지 제약요인이 있다고 분석되었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 에어쇼의 활성화를 위해 에어레이싱과 같은 새로운 컨텐츠가 필요하고, 지방공항 활성화와 항공산업 관련성 측면에서 사천공항이 적합한 곳으로 분석되었다.

      • The Inheritance of Amylose Content and Alkali Digestibility Value of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)Applied as "Waxy Carrier Technique"

        본 硏究는 (1) 米質 特히 食味와 관계되는 두가지 主要形質인 amylose含量과 알칼리崩壞度(ADV)에 미치는 環境의 影響을 空明하고 (2) 새로이 提唱된 waxy carrier technique理論에 根據하여 쌀벼와 메벼의 交雜에서 나온 메벼가 이들 形質을 母本으로부터 어떻게 傳授 받는가를 밝히고 (3)이 理論을 應用하여 含量이 다른 두 메 品種의 F₁을 찰벼와 戾交雜하고 거기서 나온 순수 메벼의 amylose含量의 分離比를 검토하여 쌀 amylose含量의 遺傅에 관한 情報를 얻기 위한 目的으로 實施되었다. 쌀 amylose 함량 및 알칼리 崩壞度에 미치는 환경,特히 溫度의 영향을 空明하기 위하여 인공기상실에서 진흥, 유신 및 IR-30의 3品種을 出穗期에서 5 혹은 10일간 또 蒸發器에 7일간 15℃ 혹은 30℃에 처리한 것을 自然條件에서 栽培한 것과 비교하였고(試驗 I), 밀양 23호(메벼)와 Wx 317-4-7-4(찰벼)의 交雜에서 나온 F₂개체의 出穗期를 精密히 조사하고 homozygous nonwaxy F₂와 waxy F₂를 분리하여 그 종자를 여러 濃度의 KOH용액에서 알칼리 崩壞度를 검정하고 出穗期와 알칼리 崩壞度 간의 관계를 空明하였다.(試驗 II). Waxy carrier technique에 근거하여 쌀의 amylose 함량 및 알칼리 崩壞度가 母本으로부터 雜種世代에 移轉하는 원리를 空明하기 위하여 두 찰벼(Wx 316-9-10-1-2와 Wx 199-33-6-1-3)를 amylose 함량과 ADV가 相異한 4가지 메벼와 交雜하고 거기서 나온 찰메에 대하여 homozygous인 F₂개체중에서 amylose含量을 메벼에 한하여, 알칼리 崩壞度를 메와 찰을 같이 사용하여 檢定하였다(試驗 Ⅲ). 또 waxy carrier technique 理論을 應用하여 쌀 amylose 含量의 遺傅에 관한 정보를 얻기 爲하여 amylose含量이 다르고 標識形質(marker character)을 가진 8개 isogenic line을 交雜하고 이들F1을 所謂 短桿찰계통(semi-dwarf waxy line)에 戾交雜, 그 後代에서 나온 메벼의 amylose 含量을 分析하여 그 分離상태를 검토하였다(試驗 Ⅳ). 以上의 4가지 試驗에서 얻은 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. (1) 出穗期에 5日 혹은 10日간 30℃에 처리하였을 때 amylose 含量은 有意的인 變化가 없었으나 알칼리 붕괴도는 有意的으로 減少하였다. 같은 時期와 기간동안 15℃에 처리하였을 때에는 自然상태의 것과 비교할 때 amylose 함량이나 ADV에서 有意的인 差異가 認定되지 않았다. (2) 알칼리 붕괴도는 밀양 23호와 Wx 317의 교잡에서 나온 homozygous nonwaxy F₂개체 혹은 메 母本의 경우에는 1.5%, homozygous waxy F₂개체 혹은 찰 母本의 경우는 1.6% KOH濃度에서 각각을 檢定암이 妥當하였고, 出穗期와 알칼리 崩壞度 間에는 有意的인 正의 相關이 認定되었다. (3) 메나 찰의 交雜에서 나온 homozygous 메 F₂개체의 amylose含量은 메母本의 amylose함량과 같은 정도로 回復되었으나 알칼리 崩壞度는 메와 찰에서 매우 큰 變異를 나타내었다. 그러나 育種的인 見地에서 母本의 알칼리 崩壞度를 回復할 수 있는 個體의 選拔이 可能할 것으로 보였다. (4) Amylose함량이 다른 isogenic line을 상호 交雜하고 이 F₁을 몇가지 찰과 檢定交配하여 여기서 나온 雜種後期世代에서 分離한 메벼의 amylose함량을 分析한 결과 모든 供試組合에서 1 : 1 로 分離하는 二頂分布(bimodal distribution)를 나타냄으로써 쌀 amylose含量은 한쌍의 單純遺傳子에 으하여 支配된다는 것을 確認하였다. The main purpose of this study was (1) to determine the envirnmental influence on two major quality charcters related to cooking and eating qualities of rice, i.e., amylose content and alkali digestibility values(ADV), and (2) to evaluate the genetical behavior of these characters by applying the waxy carrier technique. For the study on the environmental influence on these characters, three varieties, Jinheung, Yushin and IR-30, were tested in the different temperatural conditions at maturation, and the relationship berween the heading date and ADV was estimated in the cross between Milyang 23 and Wx317-4-7-4. For the study on the transmittance of amylose content and ADV based on the waxy carrier technique, ADV-different two waxy lines, and four near-isogenic nonwaxy lines were used. And finally to evaluate the genetical behavior of amylose-different eight issogenic lines with typical base color s a marker were used as amylose parents. The results obtained from these four experiments are summarized as follows: (1) When the rice plants were placed in 30℃ for 5 of 10 days at heading, the samples did not show any significant changes in amylose content but showed significant changes in ADV. And when the plants were placed at the same temperature for 7 days at ripening stage, the samples showed significantly low amylose content and low ADV. Amylose content of samples tested in 15℃ for the same periods showed no significant difference compared to those in the natural condition. (2) In a cross between Milyang 23 and Wx317, F₂plants with homozygous nonwaxy endosperm and nonwaxy parent showed significant postive correlation between heading date and ADV in 1.5% KOH at 30℃, while F₂plants with homozygous waxy endosperms and waxy parent showed such positive correlation in 1.6% KOH at 30℃. (3) In the crosses between nonwaxy and waxy parents, the amylose content of nonwaxy parents was transmitted to the F₂plant whith homozygous nonwaxy endosperms, which is coincident with the principle of waxy carrier technique. However, ADV was not so simple to apply the waxy carrier technique due to the large variation in ADV of homozygous F₂plants. (4) When F₁lines derived from the nonwaxy amylose-different parents were testcrossed to waxy lines, the isolated homozygous nonwaxy plants showed segregation of 1 : 1 in amylose content, showing bimodal distributions in all combinations tested. This result confirmed that the amylose content in ricd is controlled by one pair of major genes.
