Intermediate Valence State of Cerium in Intermetallics

Wojciech Suski 한국자기학회 1999 Journal of Magnetics Vol.4 No.3

Ce exhibits the intermediate valence (IV) state both as an element and in its compounds. In the present review characteristic behavior of the materials showing the IV state are described. Then the methods of producing this state: the application of the external pressure, temperature and magnetic field as well as the alloying are being discussed. An identification of the IV state is frequently not a simple goal and the best results can be obtained using a combination of various independent methods. Particular attention is paid to the X-ray spectroscopy, lattice parameters and the magnetic properties. As the examples of the IV state in the Ce compounds the properties of following materials are reported: CeRhSb, CeCu_5In_7 CeAg_6In_6, Sc_(1-x)Ce_xFe₄Al_8 and for comparison Sc_(1-x) Yb_xFe₄Al_8.

      • Taekwondo and Korean Martial Arts in the Idokan Poland Association’s Research (1993-2016): A Review

( Wojciech J. Cynarski ),( John A. Johnson ) 국제태권도학회 2017 Journal of the International Association for Taekw Vol.4 No.2

The General Theory of Fighting Arts became a perspective for undertaking studies concerning Taekwondo and other Korean martial arts as part of the research efforts made by Idokan Poland Association (IPA), a martial arts research organization; the scientific center at the University of Rzeszow; and contributors to Ido Movement for Culture. Journal of Martial Arts Anthropology. The current research aimed to determine the influence of these studies on Taekwondo academics by performing discourse and monographic analyses of the IPA’s publications. IPA researchers have published studies on 1) the delineation of Taekwondo and Shotokan Karate, 2) Taekwondo symbology, 3) historical analysis of prominent Taekwondo practitioners, 4) psychology and ped-agogy, 5) Taekwondo bio-technical and equipment, 6) Taekwondo biomechanics and coaching, 7) the delineation of Taekwondo as a martial art and combat sport, 8) other Korean martial arts, and 9) Kukkiwon (Olympic) Taekwondo as well as International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). Four conclusions about the IPA’s contributions to Taekwondo academics were made. First, the IPA has researched Taekwondo as a combat sport as well as a martial art. Second, the IPA has presented studies on little-researched Korean martial arts. Third, IPA researchers publish both natural sciences and humanities papers. Fourth and most importantly, the predominately Japa-nese-based IPA publications permit Taekwondo academia the capability to compare and incorpo-rate studies on other martial arts to and within their own studies, thus broadening and enhancing their researches.

      • Taekwondo and Korean Martial Arts in Idokan Poland Association’s Research (1993-2016): A Review

( Wojciech J. Cynarski ) 국제태권도학회 2017 International Symposium for Taekwondo Studies Vol.2017 No.-

Purpose: The General Theory of Fighting Arts became a perspective for undertaking studies concerning Taekwondo and other Korean martial arts as part of 1) the Idokan Poland Association (IPA), a martial arts research organization, 2) the scientific center at University of Rzeszow efforts, and 3) contributors to the publication Ido Movement for Culture. Journal of Martial Arts Anthropology. The purpose of the current research is to determine the influence of these studies on Taekwondo academics considering the focus of the IPA is Idokan Budo, a Japanese martial art. Methods: A relatively wide discourse analysis was conducted, including a monographic method with an analysis of the various sources and studies. A long-term participant observation among martial arts practitioners and researchers was also performed. Results: The IPA’s autonomous Division of Korean Martial Arts represents Kukkiwon Taekwondo, International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) Taekwon-Do, and all other Korean martial arts. Researchers from this section have published studies on Taekwondo and Korean martial arts in general. These researches were classified as 1) the delineation of Taekwondo and Shotokan Karate, 2) Taekwondo symbology research, 3) historical analyzes of prominent Taekwondo practitioners, 4) psychological and pedagogical research, 5) Taekwondo bio-technical and equipment research, 6) Taekwondo biomechanics and coaching, 7) the delineation of Taekwondo as a martial art and combat sport, 8) other Korean martial arts, and 9) the dissemination of Kukkiwon Taekwondo and ITF Taekwon-Do studies. Conclusions: This review determined four conclusions about the IPA’s contributions to Taekwondo academics. First, the IPA’s efforts have long-featured research on Kukkiwon Taekwondo and ITF Taekwon-Do research, which allows for deeper understanding of Taekwondo practice as a whole. Additionally, little-researched areas of Korean martial arts are given a voice in the IPA. Thirdly, IPA researchers publish both natural sciences and humanities papers, which permits a more holistic understanding of Taekwondo. Finally, the predominately Japanese-based IPA publications permit Taekwondo academia the ability to compare and incorporate research and practical knowledge within their own studies, thus broadening and enhancing their ability to contribute to Taekwondo academics.

      • BASIC CONCEPTS IN QUASI-RESONANT AND MULTI-RESONANT POWER CONVERSION

        Wojciech A. Tabisz,Fred C. Lee 전력전자학회 1992 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.1992 No.4

Recently developed quasi-resonant and multi-resonant dc-dc power conversion techniques are reviewed. Quasi-resonant converter (QRC) and multi-resonant converter (MRC) topologies are derived from conventional square-wave, pulse-width modulated (PWM) converters by adding resonant components to achieve zero-current switching or zero-voltage switching of the semiconductor devices. These techniques reduce switching losses caused by the parasitic leakage inductance of the power transformer and junction capacitances of semiconductor devices. As a result, QRCs and MRCs can operate at higher switching frequencies and achieve higher power densities than PWM converters. Detailed explanation of operation of zero-current-switched and zero-voltage-switched QRCs and MRCs is provided, and their relative advantages and limitations are discussed

Equivalent moment of inertia of a truss bridge with steelconcrete composite deck

Wojciech Siekierski 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.55 No.4

Flexural stiffness of bridge spans has become even more important parameter since Eurocode 1 introduced for railway bridges the serviceability limit state of resonance. For simply supported bridge spans it relies, in general, on accurate assessment of span moment of inertia that governs span flexural stiffness. The paper presents three methods of estimation of the equivalent moment of inertia for such spans: experimental, analytical and numerical. Test loading of the twin truss bridge spans and test results are presented. Recorded displacements and the method of least squares are used to find an “experimental” moment of inertia. Then it is computed according to the analytical method that accounts for joint action of truss girders and composite deck as well as limited span shear stiffness provided by diagonal bracing. Finally a 3D model of finite element method is created to assess the moment of inertia. Discussion of results is given. The comparative analysis proves efficiency of the analytical method.

Adverse Effects When Partnering for Corporate Social Responsibility in the Context of FIFA World Cup Sponsorship

Wojciech Kulczycki,Benjamin Pfister,Joerg Koenigstorfer 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2020 Journal of Global Sport Management Vol.5 No.4

The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of partnership for corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the context of the sponsorship of the 2014 men’s FIFA (F ed eration Internationale de Football Association) World Cup on host city residents’ evaluations of sponsors. One hundred sixty Rio de Janeiro residents participated in the experiment. The results showed that partnerships with FIFA or the Brazilian government, which are both accused of mismanagement and corruption, worsened attitudes toward the sponsor compared to a CSR engagement without a partnership. Thus, adverse effects when partnering for CSR were found. Furthermore, the linkage to FIFA made the sponsor more dependent on the host city residents’ overall evaluation of the sports federation. The dependency on FIFA can be good or bad for sponsor brands: attitude to the sponsor and, hence, behavioral intentions to engage with the sponsor increase (decrease) with better (worse) attitude toward the sports federation.

Analysis of rotational end restraint for cross-beams of railway through truss bridges

Wojciech Siekierski 국제구조공학회 2020 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.35 No.1

Cross-beams of modern through truss bridges are connected to truss chord at its nodes and between them. It results in variable rotational end restraint for cross-beams, thus variable bending moment distribution. This feature is captured in three-dimensional modelling of through truss bridge structure. However, for preliminary design or rapid assessment of service load effects such technique of analysis may not be available. So an analytical method of assessment of rotational end restraint for cross-beam of through truss bridges was worked out. Two cases – nodal cross-beam and inter-nodal cross-beam – were analyzed. Flexural and torsional stiffness of truss members, flexural stiffness of deck members and axial stiffness of wind bracing members in the vicinity of the analyzed cross-beam were taken into account. The provision for reduced stiffness of the X-type wind bracing was made. Finally, general formula for assessment of rotational end restraint was given. Rotational end restraints for cross-beams of three railway through truss bridges were assessed basing on the analytical method and the finite element method (three-dimensional beam-element modelling). Results of both methods show good agreement. The analytical method is able to reflect effects of some structural irregularities. On the basis of the obtained results the general values of rotational end restraint for nodal and inter-nodal cross-beams of railway through truss bridges were suggested.
