Milk Fermented with Pediococcus acidilactici Strain BE Improves High Blood Glucose Levels and Pancreatic Beta-Cell Function in Diabetic Rats

        Widodo Widodo,Hanna Respati Putri Kusumaningrum,Hevi Wihadmadyatami,Anggi Lukman Wicaksana 한국축산식품학회 2023 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.43 No.1

This study evaluated the effects of milk fermented with Pediococcus acidilactici strain BE and Pediococcus pentosaceus strain M103 on diabetes in rats (Rattus norvegicus). The bacteria were separately used as starter cultures for milk fermentation, and the products were then fed to diabetic rats for 15 days. Blood glucose levels, immunohistochemical and histological indicators, lipid profiles, and total lactic acid bacterium counts were evaluated before and after treatment. The administration of milk fermented with P. acidilactici strain BE reduced blood glucose levels from 410.27±51.60 to 304.07±9.88 mg/dL (p<0.05), similar to the effects of metformin (from 382.30±13.39 mg/dL to 253.33±40.66 mg/dL, p<0.05). Increased insulin production was observed in diabetic rats fed milk fermented with P. acidilactici strain BE concomitant with an increased number and percentage area of immunoreactive beta-cells. The structure of insulin-producing beta-cells was improved in diabetic rats fed milk fermented with P. acidilactici strain BE or metformin (insulin receptor substrate scores of 5.33±0.94 and 3.5±0.5, respectively). This suggests that the administration of milk fermented with P. acidilactici BE potentially reduces blood glucose levels and improves pancreatic betacell function in diabetic rats.

The Effect of Organizational Citizenship and Visionary Leadership on Contextual Performance

Widodo WIDODO,Furtasan Ali YUSUF 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.6

The aim of the study is not only to explore the empirical effect of visionary leadership, quality of work-life (QWL), and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) on teachers’ contextual performance, but also to prove the theoretical model regarding OCB as a mediator between visionary leadership, QWL, and teachers’ contextual performance. This research uses a quantitative approach to the survey method through a Likert scale model questionnaire. The questionnaire for all research variables is reliable with an alpha coefficient >0.7. The research participants are comprised of 460 teachers at private schools in Indonesia selected by accidental sampling. Data analysis uses path analysis supported by descriptive statistics and correlational matrices. The research results indicate that visionary leadership, QWL, and OCB have a significant effect on teachers’ contextual performance. Besides, OCB is also indirectly mediating the effect of visionary leadership and QWL on teachers’ contextual performance. Thus, a new model regarding the effect of visionary leadership and QWL on contextual performance mediating by OCB was confirmed. The research suggested that the teachers’ contextual performance can improve through visionary leadership, QWL, and OCB. Therefore, researchers and practitioners can adopt the new empirical model to develop contextual performance in the future in various organizations’ contexts.

A new content-defined chunking algorithm for data deduplication in cloud storage

        Widodo, R.N.S.,Lim, H.,Atiquzzaman, M. North-Holland 2017 Future generations computer systems Vol.71 No.-

<P>Chunking is a process to split a file into smaller files called chunks. In some applications, such as remote data compression, data synchronization, and data deduplication, chunking is important because it determines the duplicate detection performance of the system. Content-defined chunking (CDC) is a method to split files into variable length chunks, where the cut points are defined by some internal features of the files. Unlike fixed-length chunks, variable-length chunks are more resistant to byte shifting. Thus, it increases the probability of finding duplicate chunks within a file and between files. However, CDC algorithms require additional computation to find the cut points which might be computationally expensive for some applications. In our previous work (Widodo et al., 2016), the hash-based CDC algorithm used in the system took more process time than other processes in the deduplication system. This paper proposes a high throughput hash-less chunking method called Rapid Asymmetric Maximum (RAM). Instead of using hashes, RAM uses bytes value to declare the cut points. The algorithm utilizes a fix-sized window and a variable-sized window to find a maximum-valued byte which is the cut point. The maximum-valued byte is included in the chunk and located at the boundary of the chunk. This configuration allows RAM to do fewer comparisons while retaining the CDC property. We compared RAM with existing hash-based and hash-less deduplication systems. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm has higher throughput and bytes saved per second compared to other chunking algorithms. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

      • Clinicopathological Significance of Lymphangiogenesis and Tumor Lymphovascular Invasion in Indonesian Breast Cancers

Widodo, Irianiwati,Ferronika, Paranita,Harijadi, Ahmad,Triningsih, F.X. Ediati,Utoro, Totok,Soeripto, Soeripto Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.2

Background: Lymphangiogenesis, assessed as lymphovascular density (LVD), is the initial step of generalized tumor lymphovascular invasion (LVI). It also involves VEGF-C as the most important protein family. Lymphangiogenesis among breast cancer cases correlations with several clinicopathological factors are important to determine prognosis and treatment strategies, but results have been controversial and require clarification. Aim: To define correlations between VEGF-C expression, LVD and LVI with several clinicopathological parameters from Indonesian breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Using a cross-sectional study, a total of 48 paraffin-embedded tissues of breast cancer from Dr. Sardjito General Hospital Indonesia were assessed for VEGF-C expression, LVD and LVI by immunohistochemistry. Correlations of these markers with clinicopathological parameters like patient age, tumor size, lymph node status, grade, ER/PR and Her-2 status, cell proliferation and p-53 expression were investigated by linear analysis. Correlations of VEGF-C expression and LVI with several clinicopathological parameters were analyzed with Coefficient Contingency Chi-Square test. Results: The mean of patients age was 53.0 year, pre and post-menopausal patients accounting for 56.3% and 43.8%, respectively. Some 10.4% were well, 41.7% moderate and 47.9% poorly differentiated. ER positivity was evident in 50% while PR and Her-2 positivity was found in 31.3% and 33.3%, respectively. Breast cancer cells with over-expression of p-53 was 64.6% and with high cell proliferation was 56.3%. Lymph node metastasis was noted in 63.5%, and LVI in 72.9%. Significant correlations were found between LVD and tumor size (p:0.037), grade (p:0.000), lymphnode status (p:0.036), LVI (p:0.003), as well as with p-53 and cell proliferation. There were also significant correlation of VEGF-C (p:0.011) and LVI (p:0.001) with tumor grade. Only ER status was found to have a correlation with tumor size (p:0.027). Conclusions: This study suggested that in Indonesian breast cancer patients, lymphangiogenesis is correlated with tumor size, grade, lymph node status and tumor lymphovascular invasion, the latter also being related with p-53 over expression and high cell proliferation.

SMALL SCALE DAIRYING IN THREE FARMING SYSTEMS IN EAST JAVA I. FARMER'S INCOME AND HOUSEHOLD CHARACTERISTICS

Widodo, M.W.,de Jong, R.,Udo, H.M.J. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1994 Animal Bioscience Vol.7 No.1

The annual income (gross margin) in 1989/90 of a sample of 274 farmers in seven milk cooperatives was analyzed in the sugar cane, cassava, and horticulture areas in East Java. On average dairying contributed 42%, crops 29% and off-farm revenue 29%. Dairy income was highest in the cassava area, where it compensated for the low crop income, and lowest in the sugar cane area. Farm area and average milk yield per day per cow correlated positively with farmer's income, whereas crop income increase significantly with farm area and with the number of cows. The level of total cost per cow had a negative impact on dairy and with the number of cows. The level of total cost per cow had a negative impact on dairy and on total income. Government officials and other professionals engaged in dairying had a significantly higher total income than those with their main occupation in dairying, cropping or working as farm labourers. Uneducated farmers obtained a significantly larger income through crops, whereas farmers with tertiary education obtained more income through off-farm work, This study suggests that more attention must be paid to the actual use of labour and the improvement of the dairy output/cost ratio.

SDM: Smart deduplication for mobile cloud storage

        Widodo, R.N.S.,Lim, H.,Atiquzzaman, M. North-Holland 2017 Future generations computer systems Vol.70 No.-

<P>Cloud storages can be used to solve limited storage on mobile devices. The stored data can be reached from anywhere if network access is available. Network access can be costly, especially for mobile devices, which have limited power source. One of the solutions to reduce the amount of data transfer is data deduplication. This paper proposes a deduplication system called Smart Deduplication for Mobiles (SDM) for mobile devices. SDM chooses the best deduplication method without specific configurations for any file type. We compared our system to existing deduplication systems available on mobile devices. Results show that SDM achieves higher deduplication accuracy and faster deduplication speed over existing systems for mobile devices with negligible additional time in most scenarios. The additional time required by our system is negligible when compared to the power saved from uploading fewer data to a cloud storage. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

      • A Navigation System for Service Robot using Stereo Vision and Kalman Filtering

        Widodo Budiharto,Ari Santoso,Djoko Purwanto,Achmad Jazidie 제어로봇시스템학회 2011 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2011 No.10

The objective of this paper is to propose a method for navigating a vision-based service robot using stereo vision and Kalman Filtering. We have develop modules for face recognition system, visual tracking and multiple moving obstacles avoidance using stereo camera. Someone that walks will be identified as moving obstacle and we propose a method to avoid the multiple moving obstacles. Kalman filtering for distance estimation using stereo camera used for stability of measurement and removing noise from the input images. To overcome the inaccuracies of vision sensor, Bayesian approach is used for estimate the absense and direction of obstacles. Algorithms for moving obstacles avoidance method proposed and experiment results implemented to a service robot also presented. Our system can overcome the drawbacks of popular obstacle avoidance methods because it provides a complete mechanism for a vision-based service robot so that it can avoid the moving obstacles.Various experiments show that our proposed method very fast, and successfully implemented to service robot called Srikandi III in our laboratory.

SMALL SCALE DAIRYING IN THREE FARMING SYSTEMS IN EAST JAVA II. ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF DAIRYING

Widodo, M.W.,de Jong, R.,Moll, H.A.J. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1994 Animal Bioscience Vol.7 No.1

The indonesian government wishes to increase farmers' by encouraging dairy farming. Since 1980, imported dairy cattle have been distributed on credit. Survey data from 1990 were used to study the average milk sales per cow and the economic parameters of dairy production of a sample of farm households on seven milk cooperatives East Java Province, in three agro-ecological areas, oriented to sugar cane, cassava and horticulture, respectively. in general, dairy production proved not to be economically attractive as returns to labour were similar to the rates for agricultural labour. The returns showed marked differences among the three areas studied. They were highest in the horticultural area. Analysis of the dairy units according to size showed a tendency for inputs as well as revenue per cow to decline as herd size increased. It is argued that a further increase in milk production in East Java can be stimulated by raising the farm gate price of milk, or by expanding dairy production into suitable, new areas.

      • Clinicopathological Features of Indonesian Breast Cancers with Different Molecular Subtypes

Widodo, Irianiwati,Dwianingsih, Ery Kus,Triningsih, Ediati,Utoro, Totok,Soeripto, Soeripto Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Background: Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease with molecular subtypes that have biological distinctness and different behavior. They are classified into luminal A, luminal B, Her-2 and triple negative/basal-like molecular subtypes. Most of breast cancers reported in Indonesia are already large size, with high grade or late stage but the clinicopathological features of different molecular subtypes are still unclear. They need to be better clarified to determine proper treatment and prognosis. Aim: To elaborate the clinicopathological features of molecular subtypes of breast cancers in Indonesian women. Materials and Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study of 84 paraffin-embedded tissues of breast cancer samples from Dr. Sardjito General Hospital in Central Java, Indonesia was performed. Expression of ER, PR, Her-2 and Ki-67 was analyzed to classify molecular subtypes of breast cancer by immunohistochemistry. The relation of clinicopathological features of breast cancers with molecular subtypes of luminal A, luminal B, Her-2 and triple negative/basal-like were analyzed using Pearson's Chi-Square test. A p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Case frequency of luminal A, Luminal B, Her-2+ and triple negative/basal-like subtypes were 38.1%, 16.7%, 20.2% and 25%, respectively. Significant difference was found in breast cancer molecular subtypes in regard to age, histological grade, lymph node status and staging. However it showed insignificant result in regard to tumor size. Luminal A subtype of breast cancer was commonly found in >50 years old women (p:0.028), low grade cancer (p:0.09), negative lymph node metastasis (p:0.034) and stage III (p:0.017). Eventhough the difference was insignificant, luminal A subtype breast cancer was mostly found in small size breast cancer (p:0.129). Her-2+ subtype breast cancer was more commonly diagnosed with large size, positive lymph node metastasis and poor grade. Triple negative/basal-like cancer was mostly diagnosed among <50 years old women. Conclusions: This study suggests that immunohistochemistry-based subtyping is essential to classify breast carcinoma into subtypes that vary in clinicopathological features, implying different therapeutic options and prognosis for each subtype.

      • Fault diagnosis of low speed bearing based on acoustic emission signal and multi-class relevance vector machine

        Widodo, Achmad,Yang, Bo-Suk,Kim, Eric Y.,Tan, Andy C. C.,Mathew, Joseph Taylor Francis 2009 Nondestructive testing and evaluation Vol.24 No.4

<P> This study presents an acoustic emission (AE) based fault diagnosis for low speed bearing using multi-class relevance vector machine (RVM). A low speed test rig was developed to simulate the various defects with shaft speeds as low as 10 rpm under several loading conditions. The data was acquired using an AE sensor with the test bearing operating at a constant loading (5 kN) and with a speed range from 20 to 80 rpm. This study is aimed at finding a reliable method/tool for low speed machines fault diagnosis based on AE signal. In the present study, component analysis was performed to extract the bearing feature and to reduce the dimensionality of original data feature. The result shows that multi-class RVM offers a promising approach for fault diagnosis of low speed machines.</P>
