        Synchronization of Ball and Beam Systems with Neural Compensation

        Ball and beam system is one of the most popular and important laboratory models for teaching control system. It is a big challenge to synchronize ball and beam systems. There are two problems for ball and beam synchronized control: 1) many laboratories use simple controllers such as PD control, and theory analysis is based on linear models, 2) nonlinear controllers for ball and beam system have good theory results, but they are seldom used in real applications. In this paper we first use PD control with nonlinear exact compensation for the cross-coupling synchronization. Then a RBF neural network is applied to approximate the nonlinear compensator. The synchronization control can be in parallel and serial forms. The stability of the synchronization is discussed. Real experiments are applied to test our theory results.

        Stability Analysis of Visual Servoing with Sliding-mode Estimation and Neural Compensation

        In this paper, PD-like visual servoing is modified in two ways: a sliding-mode observer is applied to estimate the joint velocities, and a REF neural network is used to compensate the unknown gravity and friction. Based on Lyapunov method and input-to-state stability theory, we prove that PD-like visual servoing with the sliding mode observer and the neuro compensator is robust stable when the gain of the PD controller is bigger than the upper bounds of the uncertainties. Several simulations are presented to support the theory results.

      • The Impact of Female Entrepreneurs’ Individual Factors on New Venture Success in Developing Countries

        This empirical study aims to test the impact of female entrepreneurs’ individual factors on new venture success and examine how socio-economic factors of property rights, business freedom and attitudes toward entrepreneurship moderate the main relationships, using the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) surveys for eight developing countries in the years of 2008-2013. The results indicate that individual factors of entrepreneurial role model, entrepreneurial skills and household income have a positive influence on venture success, while fear of failure has a negative impact, as expected. The results also present that property rights fully moderate the main relationships.

        A Joint Design for Multi-band Heterogeneous Networks when Deploying Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface

        Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) technique is effective to improve the capacity and coverage of various networks. However, the practical RIS has dissimilar responses to signals in different frequencies due to its structure. Therefore, directly applying existing schemes to multi-band heterogeneous networks leads to beam misalignment and performance degra- dation issues. This paper considers RIS-assisted multi-band heterogeneous networks where base stations (BSs) use different frequencies. We formulate the problem for maximizing the sum rate of all users (SR) in every frequency band, and aim to jointly design BSs precoding vectors and RIS parameters while taking user choices into account. Based on the closed-form relationship of phase shifts between frequencies, an iterative algo- rithm is proposed to solve the challenging non-convex problems. In particular, we use fractional programming to decouple the problem, and solve the subproblems with Quadratic Transform (QT) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly improve SR among all frequency bands, which could instruct the coexistence of mul- tiple communication systems in future heterogeneous networks. What’s more, results also prove that deploying RISs recklessly will result in a degradation of the network.

        Removal of ammonia nitrogen from wastewater by three-dimensional electrode system based on solid waste containing iron

        In order to solve the problem of ammonia nitrogen pollution, three-dimensional electrode electrochemical oxidation technology is utilized to transform ammonia nitrogen. The influence of influent pH, power supply and electrolyte concentration on ammonia nitrogen removal by three-dimensional electrode method and its mechanism were discussed by single factor variable analysis. The particle electrode by emission scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that the removal efficiency of ammonia nitrogen by three-dimensional electrode is higher than that by two-dimensional electrode. When the aqueous solution is neutral, the direct and indirect oxidation reactions of ammonia nitrogen can reach the best state, and the removal efficiency is the highest. Within a certain range, the electrolytic efficiency will increase with the increase of electrolytic voltage and electrolyte concentration. The reduction of electrode spacing in a certain range can enhance the direct oxidation of ammonia nitrogen and improve the electrolysis efficiency of ammonia nitrogen. Under the conditions of pH 7, power supply voltage 14 V, electrolyte concentration 0.1 mol/L, electrode spacing 1 cm, electrolytic time 50 min, ammonia nitrogen can be completely removed from the three-dimensional electrode

        Relationship between Future Time Orientation, Career Adaptability Focusing on the Mediating Role of Procrastination

        Recently China has enacted many strict measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As college students spend most of their time taking online classes, procrastinating due to the lack of management has become a common thing. All these have intensified the confusion and anxiety among college students as they think about their future career. To explore the relationship between future time orientation and career adaptability and the mediating role of procrastination, this study took 1029 Chinese college students as research targets through online questionnaires which adopt the Future-orientation Questionnaire, the Career Adaptability Questionnaire and the Short General Procrastination Scale in 2022. Data were analyzed by SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 8.0, include descriptive statistics, t test and other methods. The results showed that (1) there were significant differences in future time orientation, career adaptability and procrastination considering demographic variables (sex, only child, studying abroad, and education). (2) There was a significant positive correlation between future time orientation and career adaptability. There was a significant negative correlation between procrastination and future time orientation and career adaptability. (3) Procrastination acted as a partial mediator in the relationship between future time orientation and career adaptability. The results can provide new ideas for how to improve the adaptability of college students.

        Keyness in maritime institutional law texts

        This study describes some characteristics of maritime institutional legal texts in terms of corpus methodology. We self-built two study corpora: a public maritime institutional corpus and a private maritime institutional corpus. The differences between the two corpora can be distinguished by identifying typical linguistic features from the keyness aspects of key words, key clusters, and key semantic domains. Specific words and phrases in complementary distribution are offered to distinguish public maritime legal characteristics from private maritime legal characteristics by comparing the self-built specialized corpora with the more general British National Corpus (BNC informative genre). Linguistic features are discussed from the view of keyness, thus enabling non-legal practitioners as well as non-specialist readers to discover and describe underlying parameters that best depict the differences between legal registers or genres.

        A Corpus-Based Analysis of the Near-Synonyms Safety and Security in Maritime English

        This study examines collocates of the near-synonyms safety and security in maritime English, drawing data from two general corpora (BNC Written and COCA Written) and one self-built specialized corpus (IMO Corpus) through Wordsmith 6.0 as well as tagging semantic domains in Wmatrix 3.0 and conducting network analysis using NetMiner 4.0. Three main discoveries were made in this study. First, the distinction of two near-synonyms used in industrial and information fields cannot be applied to maritime English, in which safety and security have clear collocational preference. Second, a brokerage analysis of some interesting shared collocates such as maritime and ship suggests that safety and security play different roles when collocating with the same collocates. Third, a semantic domain network analysis is displayed to explain how near-synonyms are both different and similar based on their common and exclusive semantic domains, thereby providing a cognitive understanding of the two near-synonyms.
