Regional Distribution of Interstitial Cells of Cajal, (ICC) in Human Stomach

We elucidated the distribution of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) in human stomach, using cryosection and $c-Kit$ immunohistochemistry to identify $c-Kit$ positive ICC. Before $c-Kit$ staining, we routinely used hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining to identify every structure of human stomach, from mucosa to longitudinal muscle. HE staining revealed that the fundus greater curvature (GC) had prominent oblique muscle layer, and $c-Kit$ immunostaining $c-Kit$ positive ICC cells were found to have typical morphology of dense fusiform cell body with multiple processes protruding from the central cell body. In particular, we could observe dense processes and ramifications of ICC in myenteric area and longitudinal muscle layer of corpus GC. Interestingly, $c-Kit$ positive ICC-like cells which had morphology very similar to ICC were found in gastric mucosa. We could not find any significant difference in the distribution of ICC between fundus and corpus, except for submucosa where the density of ICC was much higher in gastric fundus than corpus. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the density of ICC between each area of fundus and corpus, except for muscularis mucosa. Finally, we also found similar distribution of ICC in normal and cancerous tissue obtained from a patient who underwent pancreotomy and gastrectomy. In conclusion, ICC was found ubiquitously in human stomach and the density of ICC was significantly lower in the muscularis mucosa of both fundus/corpus and higher in the submucosa of gastric fundus than corpus.
Development of an Intelligent and Hybrid Scheme for Rapid INS Alignment

This article propose a new idea of developing a hybrid scheme to achieve faster INS alignment with higher accuracy using a novel procedure to estimate the initial attitude angles that combines a Kalman filter and Adaptive Neuro- Fuzzy Inference System architecture. A tactical grade inertial measurement unit was applied to verify the performance of proposed scheme in this study. The preliminary results indicated the outstanding improvements in both time consumption for fine alignment process and accuracy of estimated attitude angles, especially in heading angles. In general, the improvement in terms of time consumption and the accuracy of estimated attitude estimated accuracy reached 80% and 70% respectively during alignment process after compensating the attitude angles estimated by an extended Kalman filter with 15 states using proposed approach. It is worth mentioned that the proposed approach can be implemented in general real time navigation applications.

<P>Isocitrate dehydrogenase mutations with neomorphic activity of converting α-ketoglutarate to 2-hydroxyglutarate have been found in many types of cancers. We report an NMR-based assay specific for the mutant using <SUP>13</SUP>C<SUB>4</SUB>-labeled α-ketoglutarate. It can be done in a complex mixture without extraction, give time-dependent absolute quantitation, and be applied to enzyme inhibition studies. Nasal-type extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma (ENKL) is a highly invasive cancer with a poor prognosis. More effective and safer treatment regimens for ENKL are needed. Pegaspargase (PEG-Asp) has a similar mechanism of action to L-asparaginase (L-Asp), but presents lower antigenicity. The aim of the present research was to evaluate the safety profile and the latent efficacy of a PEG-Asp-based treatment regimen in patients with ENKL. Data collected from 20 patients with histologically confirmed ENKL, admitted to the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University from January 2009 to August 2013, were included in the study. All patients received $2500IU/m^2$/IM PEG-Asp on day 1 of every 21-day treatment cycle. Patients received combination chemotherapy with CHOP (n=5), EPOCH (n=7), GEMOX (n=7) or CHOP with bleomycin (n=1). After 2-5 treatment cycles (median, 4 cycles) of PEG-Asp-based chemotherapy, five patients (25%) showed a complete response (CR), and the overall response rate (ORR) was 60%. Grade 3/4 neutropenia occurred in fourteen patients (70%). Grade 3 alanine aminotransferase (ALT) elevation was observed in two. Grade 1-2 non-hematological toxicity consisted of activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) elongation (n=9), hypofibrinogenemia (n=6), hypoproteinemia (n=17), hyperglycemia (n=3), and nausea (n=6). No allergic reactions were detected. No treatment related death was reported. Our results suggested that PEG-Asp-based chemotherapy presented an acceptable tolerance and a potential short-term outcome in patients with nasal-type ENKL.

The exopolysaccharide (EPS) produced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens GSBa-1 was isolated and purified by ethanol precipitation, and DEAE-cellulose and Sepharose CL-6B chromatographies. The molecular mass of the purified EPS was determined to be 54 kDa. Monosaccharide analysis showed that the EPS was composed of predominantly glucose, and it was further confirmed by NMR spectroscopy to be α-glucan that consisted of a trisaccharide repeating unit with possible presence of two α-(1→3) and one α-(1→6) glucosidic linkages. Microstructural analysis showed that the EPS appeared as ellipsoid or globose with a smooth surface. The EPS had a degradation temperature at 240℃. Furthermore, the EPS had strong DPPH and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities, and moderate superoxidant anion scavenging and metal ion-chelating activities. This is the first characterization of a glucan produced by B. amyloliquefaciens with strong antioxidant activity. The results of this study suggest the potential of the EPS from B. amyloliquefaciens GSBa-1 to serve as a natural antioxidant for application in functional products.
유아의 놀이성, 실행기능, 자기조절력, 문제행동 간의 구조적 관계

본 연구는 유아의 놀이성, 실행기능, 자기조절력, 문제행동 간의 구조적 관계를 살펴보고, 실행기능과 자기조절력이 놀이성과 문제행동 간 관계에서 실행기능과 자기조절력의 매개효과가 어떠한가를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 부산시 유치원에 재원중인 유아 536명으로부터 자료를 수집하고 구조방정식 모형을 적용하여 분석하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아의 놀이성, 실행기능은 문제행동에 정적영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자기조절력은 문제행동에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 유아의 놀이성은 실행기능과 자기조절력에 정적영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 유아의 놀이성과 문제행동 간의 관계에서 실행기능은 부분 매개효과를 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 유아의 문제행동을 감소시키기 위하여 놀이성과 실행기능을 높이는 예방적이고 다각적인 접근이 필요함을 시사한다고 할 수 있다. The purpose of this study is to examine the structural relationship between children's playfulness, executive function, self-regulation, and problem behavior and to examine the mediating role of executive function and self-regulation in the relationship between playfulness and problem behavior. For this purpose, data were collected from 536 children enrolled in kindergarten in Busan and analyzed by applying the structural equation model. The main results are as follows. First, it was found that children's playfulness and executive function had a positive effect on problem behavior. Second, self-regulation had no significant effect on problem behavior. Third, playfulness of infants had a positive effect on executive function and self-regulation. Fourth, in the relationship between children's playfulness and problem behavior, the executive function exerted a partial mediating effect. These results suggest that a preventive and multifaceted approach is needed to increase playfulness and executive function in order to reduce children's problem behavior.
