Jiang, Chao,Sun, Wen-Jie,Wan, Yan-Chun,Wei, Ming-Wei,Mu, Yong-Ping,Tarver, Siobhan L.,Gao, Yong-Qing,Hu, Tian,Xu, Chao,Gordon, James,Feng, Cindy Xin,Wen, Yu-Feng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.6
Introduction: Smoking prevalence among the medical students is high in China. Therefore, understanding the smoking motivations of medical students is crucial for smoking control, but currently there are no scales questionnaires customized for probing the smoking motivations of medical students. This aim of study was to test and modify a questionnaire for investigating smoking motivations among medical students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1,125 medical students at Xuzhou Medical College in China in 2012.The model fit and validity was assessed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the reliability was tested by single-item reliability, composite reliability, and item-total correlation. Results: The prevalence of smoking was 9.84 % among study population. In the modified scales, the global fit indices identified a CFI value of 0.96, TLI was 0.96, and the RMSEA was 0.063. CFA supported the two dimensional structure of the instrument. The average variance extracted ranged from 0.45 to 0.62. All single-item reliability scores were greater than 0.20, and the composite reliability ranged from 0.74 to 0.91. Conclusion: Modified scales could be the preliminary instrument used in evaluating the smoking motivations of medical students. However, it should be further assessed using other forms and methods of validity and reliability, additional motivations of smoking, and the survey of other medical colleges in China.
Head-on Collision Between Two Envelope Solitary Waves in a Granular Medium
Wen-Qing Du,Jian-An Sun,Juan-Fang Han,Wen-Shan Duan,Yang-Yang Yang,Xin Jiang 한국물리학회 2019 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.75 No.11
We investigated the head-on collision between two envelope solitary waves. Head-on collisions between two envelope solitary waves are first discussed in one-dimension (1D) granular chains. The interesting result is that no phase shift or phase delay detected after the head-on collision between two envelope solitary waves. The maximum amplitude during the head-on collision between two envelope solitary waves is also found to be less than the sum of the amplitudes of the two envelope solitary waves, but is larger than the amplitude of the either of the envelope solitary waves.
PF2405, standardized fraction of Scutellaria baicalensis, ameliorates colitis in vitro and in vivo

Standardized extraction procedures for herb areas important as their authentication to maintain theirquality and ensure their safe use. We had prepared astandardized and purified Scutellaria baicalensis Georgiextract, PF2405, which was enriched with three majorcomponents, baicalein, oroxylin A and wogonin. In thepresent study, we investigated the potential anti-inflammatoryeffects of PF2405 in vitro and in two differentexperimental animal models of inflammatory bowel disease. Effect of PF2405 studied in tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-a-induced HT-29 cells in vitro. In vivo experimentalcolitis models were induced by administration oftrinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) or dextran sulfatesodium (DSS). PF2405 (50 lg/ml) decreased TNF-ainducedcyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expressions throughinhibition of phosphorylation of c-Jun N-terminal kinasesand p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase in HT-29 cells. Combination of baicalein (20 lg/ml), oroxylin A (8 lg/ml),and wogonin (2 lg/ml) markedly inhibits TNF-a-inducedCOX-2 expression when compared with individual components. PF2405 (25 mg/kg b.w.) treatment significantlyreduced histopathological severity; suppressed expression ofCOX-2, TNF-a, and interleukin-1b in TNBS-induced mice. Moreover, PF2405 (25 mg/kg b.w.) has both potent preventiveand therapeutic activities in DSS-induced colitis. Collectively, PF2405 shows prominent anti-inflammatoryeffect that can be used as a new therapeutic approach forintestinal inflammatory disorders.
Design of Micro Biopsy Device for Wireless Autonomous Endoscope

Well-established technology that provides assistance from outside the patient may soon give way to alternative approaches that bythe wireless robotic mechanisms inside the patient through natural orifices. For this study, two kinds of micro biopsy mechanisms weredeveloped for capsule endoscope which could traverse the gut environment automatically. This mobility allows the biopsy device tomove to the area of interest to sample specific tissues. Based on the medical and mechanism considerations, we concerned on designprecise biopsy jaw with sufficient cutting force, and the biopsy process should be safe, repeatable and visible. The lead-screw linkagesystem that actuated jaw of biopsy allowing for large force production. Using one micro-motor, the biopsy process was carried outquickly by three motions: stretching to sampling point; bite and cutting off; withdrawing into capsule body with the sample. With thecontrol and vision system, the biopsy process could compete automatically. The robot was capable of traversing in the gut environmentwirelessly and had been successfully used to biopsy gut tissue in vitro. In addition, experimental analysis of the biopsy mechanismshowed good results towards more elaborate tissue manipulation in the future.

Superparamagnetic magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) of different surface properties are incubated in complicated living fluid, including fetal bovine serum solution, cell complete culture medium and cell culture system with/without serum, to investigate the alteration of protein corona and its impact on cell internalization. The MNPs prepared by co-precipitation method are functionalized with L-Lysine (Lys), Glucosamic acid (GA) to obtain amine, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, separately. All the particles adsorb serum proteins to form MNPs-protein complexes with the surface charge changing into negative. 1D SDS/PAGE gel images analysis indicates that the composition and content of hard protein corona on the surface of NPs are related to their functional groups and agglomeration, and the total amount of protein in the medium. In cell culture system, particles not only adsorb serum proteins, but also associate with cytosolic proteins arising from HepG2 and L02 cells. GA modified MNPs (MNPs-GA) exhibit bovine serum albumin anti-adsorption capability because of the terminal hydroxyl and carboxyl groups. MNPs-GA also shows the highest cellular uptake and label efficiency compared with uncoated MNPs and Lys modified MNPs, due to larger aggregates formation and specific protein corona composition, rather than commonly approved electrostatic interaction between particles and cells. For the first time, our results provide visualized reports on previously neglected, but indispensable protein corona of the MNPs after interaction with both healthy and cancer cells, suggesting that cytosolic protein corona from cells and aggregation of particles are important factors needed to be account for on studying the nano-bio interface.
