Odorant‐degrading enzymes (ODEs) have been found in insect antennae and play a critical role in signal chemical degradation once the message is conveyed. Significant progress has been made in characterizing ODEs in a variety of pests but very little is known in their natural enemies. We have carried out an antennae‐ and sex‐specific transcriptome of Aphidius gifuensis, a natural enemy of aphid, to identify the candidate ODEs. Based on the antennae‐ and sex‐specific transcriptome, a total of 100 putative ODEs were identified including one aldehyde oxidase (AOX), four alcohol dehydrogenases (ADs), eight UDP‐glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs), 45 cytochrome P450 (P450s), nine glutathione S‐transferases (GSTs) and 40 carboxylesterases (CCEs or CXEs). Additionally, we used RT‐qPCR to determine the expression profiles of these genes in tissues of both sexes. Based on the phylogenic analysis and tissue‐expression patterns, AgifEstE4, AgifCXE3, AgifCCE4, AgifCCE7, and AgifCCE18 were suggested as key ODEs in A. gifuensis. In addition, the female or male specifically enriched genes, such as AgifCCE17, AgifEstB1, AgifCYP18a1, AgifUGT2C2, were also considered to involve in the chemosensory processing in A. gifuensis. This study not only identified the candidate ODEs in A. gifuensis but also provided source for further exploration of the molecular mechanisms of chemical signal transductions in A. gifuensis, as well as other hymenopteran species.

This paper deals with the problem of blind source separation (BSS), where observed signals are a mixture of delayed sources. In reference to a previous work, when the delay time is small such that the first-order Taylor approximation holds, delayed observations are transformed into an instantaneous mixture of original sources and their derivatives, for which an extended second-order blind identification (SOBI) approach is used to recover sources. Inspired by the results of this previous work, we propose to generalize its first-order Taylor approximation to suit higher-order approximations in the case of a large delay time based on a similar version of its extended SOBI. Compared to SOBI and its extended version for a first-order Taylor approximation, our method is more efficient in terms of separation quality when the delay time is large. Simulation results verify the performance of our approach under different time delays and signal-to-noise ratio conditions, respectively.

Bragg reflection of water waves by three kinds of surface-piercing fixed structures with rectangular, cosinoidal and triangular shapes is studied. Boundary element method is used to analyze the wave scattering by these structures based on the linear wave theory. Results of reflection and transmission coefficients are validated by comparing with those available in literature. These structures with proper configurations are proved to be effective in attenuating waves by using Bragg reflection, and the triangular structures are found to be the best choices among the structures with same width and same area. Systematic calculations are then carried out for the triangular structures by varying the number, the draft, the width, the gap and the combination of width and gap of the structures to analyze their influences on the characteristics of Bragg reflection. The results are of reference values for design of the structures to attenuate waves based on the Bragg reflection.

A cDNA that was rapidly induced upon abscisic acid, cold, drought, mechanical wounding and to a lesser extent, by high salinity treatment, was isolated from Arabidopsis seedlings. It was classified as DREB subfamily member based on multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetic characterization. Since it encoded a protein with a typical ERF/AP2 DNA-binding domain and was closely related to the TINY gene, we named it TINY2. Gel retardation assay revealed that TINY2 was able to form a specific complex with the previously characterized DRE element while showed only residual affinity to the GCC box. When fused to the GAL4 DNA-binding domain, either full-length or its C-terminus functioned effectively as a trans-activator in the yeast one-hybrid assay while its N-terminus was completely inactive. Our data indicate that TINY2 could be a new member of the AP2/EREBP transcription factor family involved in activation of down-stream genes in response to environmental stress.

Since China and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations in 1992, particularly in the last decade, Chinese translations of Korean literature developed rapidly. Among these, Korean “genius writer” Shin Kyung-sook’s novel has been translated into Chinese, and an increasing amount of research data are emerging, which makes Chinese readers and researchers pay attention. In this thesis, the author attempted to analyze the rate of penetration of Korean contemporary literature in China by horizon of expectations of reception aesthetics, which is essential conception for Hans Robert Jauss. In particular literary reading activities, mainly divided into three levels, like stylistic look, the image of expectations, implication expect. This thesis is mainly discussed from three aspects, analyzed the Chinese translation of the novel’s readers as Shin Kyung-sook’s novel expectations and acceptance. Firstly, the writer discussed how the Chinese translation of the novel’s readers expect and accept Shin Kyung-sook’s novels, entitled Ri Jin, The Isolated Room, and Please Look after Mom, representing three different periods of concern in the community, telling of a poetic Korean nation. In the context, the reader read a more real South Korea image. Moreover, this thesis also discussed the maternal image. From the myth to the present the Chinese culture has its own understanding about the mother. The description and precipitation of “the great mother” has formed considerate psychological schemas, and composed the Chinese readers’ collective horizon of expectations. The mother in novels Shin Gyung-Suk’ novel has no malice and she is full of love and has patience. This goes well with the idea of mother that Chinese readers typically hold. At the last part of this thesis, the author tried to research how Chinese readers expect and accept the meaning of “human” in the novel using expectation of connotation.
