Nam, Wahn. 2001. Semantics of the there construction in English. The Linguistic Association Korea Journal 9(l). 133-144. This paper examines the meaning of the there construction in English. It U argued that the only indefinite postverbal n may o in the there construction when the particular discourse world is not presupposed, since the existence of the definite postverbal n is presupposed in the physical world, and it is not possible that we assert the existence of the entities presupposed. Yet, if the particular discourse world is given, both definite and indefinite hours are felicitous in the there construction . It is also claimed that the meaning of the there construction is the assertion of the existence of an entity/entitles or a state of affects, yet the existence is not the existence of the objective meaning irrelevant to the discourse, but the existence of the conceptual meaning relevant to the discourse. 어린이집 영아(만2세)의 가상놀이에 관한 문화 기술적 연구

The purpose of this study was to serve understanding of children's pretend play by analyzing of the characteristic of pretend play which were appeared during pretend play of two-years-old children. Their pretend plays were videotaped by video and recorder and an anecdotal record was employed. An attempt was made in this study to find out what phenomenon occurred in two-years-old children's actual pretend paly, by making a qualitative analysis of the cases in the natural situation.

수변도시Waterfront의 시각이미지에 의한 차별적 도시이미지 형성 연구 : 호반도시Waterfron구조의 조형요소 적용을 중심으로

물은 우리 인간생활에 있어서 중요한 요소로서 혜택을 주어 왔으며, 물을 잘 활용하는 인간에게 물질적, 정신적 안정과 발전을 주어왔다. 물을 끼고있는 수변도시의 수역과 육역을 연결하는 수변공간(Waterfront)을 효과적으로 개발함으로서 도시의 발전은 물론 도시민의 윤택한 생활을 제공 하는데 착안하여, 선진 외국에서는 이미 오래전부터 이를 활용하고있다. 우리나라에서도 해안도시에 부터 강이나 호수를 끼고있는 도시들이 수변공간 개발을 계획하고 시행하는 사례가 늘고있다. 그러나 국내의 경우, 수변공간의 구조물이나 시설물을 환경미학적 차원에서 조형적으로 다루고 있는 사례는 극히 미진한 실태이어서 이의 개선이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 선진국의 개발사례와 국내의 실태를 현지방문과 문헌조사및 선행 연구논문을 통하여 분석, 연구하였으며, 그 결과 수변공간 개발에 있어서 수변의 구조물, 스트리트 퍼니처(street furniture), 안내사인, 조명시설, 공공시설물등에 대하여 '물의 이미지'와 관련한 조형적인 연출을 시도 함으로서 도시발전에 크게 기여할수 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 수변도시 수변공간의 개발은 도시기능은 물론, 도시민의 정서 함양에도 영향을 주며 쾌적한 도시형성을 위한 중요한 요소로서 인식된다. 사람과 친수성 이 강한 호수를 끼고있는 호반도시는 호수변공간(Lakefront)을 개발함으로서 호반도시의 문화적, 관광적 발전은 물론, 차별적 도시 이미지를 제고 시킬수 있는 장점을 갖게한다. 이와같이 수변공간을 효과적으로 개발 하는것은 도시 발전을 위한 문화적 도구로서 도시민의 '삶의 질'을 높히는 중요한 계기가 될 것이다. Historically cities have been formed and developed in the areas where water is found nearby. This confirms water is of freat importance to human life. It actually ensures physical and psychological safety and helps humans achieve development. In advanced countries, areas near water in cities and waterfront have long been utilized since an effective development of those areas brought about cultural and economical development. So more and more cities along the coast or river or lake in Korea are making plans of developing the waterfront or already implementing those plans. However, they tend to consider the waterfront simply as a lakeshore and seashore in terms of the comprehensive city plan, and there are few cases that they create facilities from environmentally aesthetic point of view. This needs to be changed. This study analyzes and compares development cases in advanced countries and situations in Korea by actually visiting sites and studying related documents. The research found that an attempt to create aesthetics reflecting the 'image of water' utilizing structures in the waterfont, street furniture, sign system, lighting facilities and public facilities and others can contribute to the municipal development as well. Furthermore, development of waterfront is a very important element in making cities function properly. And at the same time it can contribute to creating a clean and comfortable environment for people. A city developed on a lakefront can have a very good image, which can in turn help people achieve further development in terms of culture and tourism. An effective development of waterfront can be an opportunity to enhance the quality of life of the people living in the city since it can be an important tool to improve surrounding environment.

直感을 응용한 企業經營戰略

The purpose of this study is to improve the capability of management by using intuition in the strategy of business management. In order to survive severe competition, in reality, the company should prepare a specific strategy for survival in each field. In actual business transactions, successful decision making is usually based on intuition rather than from experience or analytic aspect. Especially, in order to make a decision or develop a new product, the use of intuition is very broad in gathering related information and catching the right timing. Partly because of lack of logic or analytic data, intuition plays a more important role in decision making. According to a recent result of neuropsycholgy, the left brain controls logical and analytical aspect, and the right brain relies on feelings in decision making. However in order to have a successful business decision, we need a combined of function of the left brain and the right brain. In order to improve intuition, we should relax and practice meditation as much as possible by having to practice Gi-Ging training method. How to apply intuition to business management? I would like to suggest three methods as follows ; Firstly, we can use the intuition of the CEO to apply to business transactions. Secondly, we can made full use of creative thinking of persons who work in the company by themselves. Thirdly, in order to enhance the right brain of person who work in company, we can provide a music room or meditation room to periodically improve creative ability. In business reality, top management as well as middle management also make use of intuition in their hob without noticing such application. To consider the importantce of intuition in the business world, I would like to suggest a new concept and adopt an implementation for intuition.

Methylesters of L-Arginine and N-Nitro-L-arginine Induce Nitric Oxide Synthase in Staphylococcus aureus

The presence of L-arginine methylester (AME), L-arginine ethylester (AEE), or N-nitro-L-arginine methylester (NAME) in the growth media of Staphylococcus aureus increased the nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity approximately 5-to 14-fold. The increase of NOS activity was confirmed by two assay methods, namely assaying the formation of L-[^3H] citrulline from L-[^3H] arginine and NO formation. The increase of NOS activity was most likely due to increased de novo synthesis, demonstrated by Western immunoblot analysis. The addition of methanol to the culture medium also increased the NOS activity as much as that found with the above three compounds. Evidence is presented to show that AME, AEE, or NAME gave rise to the formation of methanol in vivo by the action of intracellular esterase(s) and that methanol is subsequently involved in the induction of NOS in this bacterial system.

Language is used among humans by means of exchanging information and communications about some situations. Every situation is characterized by explicating its type and its participants. Based on this fact, this paper examines Sentence Patterns of English. Even though there may be an infinite number of sentences in English, but there are only very limited number of sentence patterns in English. We can identify 7 sentence patterns of English, and based upon the data and observation, we take only obligatory elements into account in analyzing sentence patterns, disregarding optional elements. Next we point out the problems of classification of traditional sentence patterns. It is argued that the meaning of the verb determines the sentence patterns of English, and many different kinds of constructions in English (such as small clause as object, Have sentence, With sentence, participle construction, resultative sentence) can be explained in terms of the concept of Small Clause.

Prediction of Aerodynamic Loads for NREL Phase VI Wind Turbine Blade in Yawed Condition

Aerodynamic loads for a horizontal axis wind turbine of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI rotor in yawed condition were predicted by using the blade element momentum theorem. The classical blade element momentum theorem was complemented by several aerodynamic corrections and models including the Pitt and Peters’ yaw correction, Buhl’s wake correction, Prandtl’s tip loss model, Du and Selig’s three-dimensional (3-D) stall delay model, etc. Changes of the aerodynamic loads according to the azimuth angle acting on the span-wise location of the NREL Phase VI blade were compared with the experimental data with various yaw angles and inflow speeds. The computational flow chart for the classical blade element momentum theorem was adequately modified to accurately calculate the combined functions of additional corrections and models stated above. A successive under-relaxation technique was developed and applied to prevent possible failure during the iteration process. Changes of the angle of attack according to the azimuth angle at the specified radial location of the blade were also obtained. The proposed numerical procedure was verified, and the predicted data of aerodynamic loads for the NREL Phase VI rotor bears an extremely close resemblance to those of the experimental data.

A Turbidimetric Determination of Protein by Trichloroacetic Acid

Based on the turbidimetric response of protein with 50% trichloroacetic acid (TCA), this study aims to introduce an assay method for protein in solution. The standard procedure consists of mixing equal volume of sample solution (standard or unknown) with 50%-TCA solution and measuring the absorbance at 450 nm after 20 min. The absorbances of the solutions were almost stable over 120 min at room temperature. This assy method is simple, reproducible, and tolerant to many interfering substances. It can detect less amount than $10\mu$g/ml of bovin serum albumin. The assay method has low protein-to-protein variability over wide range of molecular weight.
