The modeling and parameter estimation of a damped one-degree-of-freedom mass-spring system is examined. This paper presents a method for estimating the system parameters (damping coefficients and natural frequency) from measured free-vibration motion of a system that is modeled to include both subcritical viscous damping and kinetic Coulomb friction. The method applies a commercially available least-squares curve-fitting software function to fit the known solution of the equations of motion to the measured response. The method was tested through numerical simulation, and it was applied to experimental data collected from a laboratory massspring apparatus. The mass of this apparatus translates on linear bearings, which are the primary source of light inherent damping. Results indicate that the curve-fitting method is effective and accurate for both perfect and noisy measurements from a lightly damped mass-spring system.

This paper seeks to conceptualize the phenomenon known as the “Fear of Missing Out” by developing and validating a measurement scale – “Fear of Missing Out” (FOMO-SCALE) to be used in a marketing context. It will also further explore various antecedents that may impact on FOMO. The study suggests an alternative approach towards the conceptualization of FOMO by defining it as a personality trait as opposed to an outcome of a behavior.
A General Discussion of the Criminal Justice Process from a Biblical and Redemptive Perspective

The Bible declares that there is no authority except that which God has established. These authorities whether Kings or Governors exist as servants and agents of God for the ultimate good of all people. These authorities also exist to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. The American criminal justice system is a governmental authority which falls within the purview of scripture. As such, it is the agent or servant of God’s responsiblity to reflect the justice, fairness, mercy and forgiveness of God in its enforcement, interpretation and execution of the substantive and procedural criminal laws. Given this theocratic foundation, the criminal justice system must serve the ends and purposes of God and not just man. Over the years, various theories have emerged regarding crime and the function of criminal punishment. While these theories have noble goals such as retribution, societal condemnation, deterrence and rehabilitation of criminals, none of these theories specifically address the “good” of the wrongdoer from a spiritual and redemptive perspective. In other words, the primary motivation for punishment must be focused on changing, the heart of the criminal offender rather than just the outward physical behavior. A heart change brings redemption which is God’s ultimate purpose for humanity. 1 Samuel 16:7 expresses this point. “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Without addressing the spiritual condition of the wrongdoer, the criminal justice system cannot fully serve or act in accordance with its divine agency and mission for which God established it. Therefore, the true paradigm of the criminal justice system must emphasize helping the criminal offender realize divine redemption in God.

Ovarian torsion is a common gynecologic emergency seen in women of all ages, mostly in reproductive women, resulting in ischemia and necrosis of the adnexal tissue. However, it is rare in premenarchal girls. This article reviews the limited published literature, and discusses special considerations about premenarchal ovarian torsion.
Semi-analytical Method for Predicting Shaft Voltage in Field-excited Synchronous Generators
Wesley Doorsamy,Willem A. Cronje 전력전자학회 2014 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.14 No.5
This study presents an electromagnetic model for predicting shaft voltages in a 2-pole field-excited synchronous generator. After the first observations on shaft voltages were made more than a century ago, extensive work has been conducted on eliminating, mitigating, and integrating the aforementioned phenomena. Given that emphasis has been placed on modeling shaft- and bearing-induced voltages in AC motors driven by variable frequency drives, similar efforts toward a model that is dedicated to generators are insubstantial. This work endeavors to improve current physical interpretation and prediction methods for shaft-induced voltages in generators through semi-analytical derivation. Aside from the experimental validation of the model, investigations regarding the behavior of shaft voltages under varying machine complexities and operating conditions clarify previous uncertainties regarding these phenomena. The performance of the numerical method is also assessed for application in eccentricity fault diagnosis.

Macro-level research evidencing the relationship between communities and crime dates date back to the early ecological work of Park and Burgess and later further developed by Shaw and McKay into what is commonly referred to as social disorganization theory. In contrast, micro-level theories such as Sampson and Laub’s theory argues that individual pathways of offending can be altered by life transitions such as marriage and employment. Comparatively, Moffitt’s taxonomy asserts that there are two theoretically distinct groups of offenders, where one group displays an adolescent-limited type of offending and the other group are considered to be life-course-persistent or chronic offenders. Results from this study, relying on official data from two large U.S.-based birth cohorts, yielded varying levels of support for all of the theoretical frameworks mentioned above. Yet, once multinomial logistic regression models were estimated incorporating the individual-level and neighborhood-level effects there was evidence of mediation. Implications and directions for future research are also discussed.
