• Design models for predicting shear resistance of studs in solid concrete slabs based on symbolic regression with genetic programming

        Vitaliy V. Degtyarev,Stephen J. Hicks,Jerome F. Hajjar 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.43 No.3

Accurate design models for predicting the shear resistance of headed studs in solid concrete slabs are essential for obtaining economical and safe steel-concrete composite structures. In this study, symbolic regression with genetic programming (GPSR) was applied to experimental data to formulate new descriptive equations for predicting the shear resistance of studs in solid slabs using both normal and lightweight concrete. The obtained GPSR-based nominal resistance equations demonstrated good agreement with the test results. The equations indicate that the stud shear resistance is insensitive to the secant modulus of elasticity of concrete, which has been included in many international standards following the pioneering work of Ollgaard et al. In contrast, it increases when the stud height-to-diameter ratio increases, which is not reflected by the design models in the current international standards. The nominal resistance equations were subsequently refined for use in design from reliability analyses to ensure that the target reliability index required by the Eurocodes was achieved. Resistance factors for the developed equations were also determined following US design practice. The stud shear resistance predicted by the proposed models was compared with the predictions from 13 existing models. The accuracy of the developed models exceeds the accuracy of the existing equations. The proposed models produce predictions that can be used with confidence in design, while providing significantly higher stud resistances for certain combinations of variables than those computed with the existing equations given by many standards

Vedolizumab does not increase perioperative surgical complications in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, cohort study

        ( Vitaliy Y. Poylin ),( Jose Cataneo Serrato ),( Jonathan Pastrana Del Valle ),( Joseph D. Feuerstein ) 대한장연구학회 2022 Intestinal Research Vol.20 No.1

Background/Aims: Biologics are increasingly used to manage ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD). However, even with earlier usage of biologic therapy, a significant proportion of patients will require surgery. Vedolizumab is an anti-integrin antibody that is increasingly used given that it is more gut selective and associated with fewer side effects. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of vedolizumab compared to anti-tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF) therapy on the perioperative complications in patients undergoing surgery for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Methods: Retrospective review of patients treated for IBD at a tertiary care center between 2013 and 2017. Rates of 30- and 90-day complications for patients on vedolizumab were compared to patients on anti-TNF regimens. Results: One hundred and ninety-nine patients met inclusion criteria with 87 (43%) patients undergoing surgery for CD, 111 (55.8%) for UC and 1 (0.5%) for indeterminate colitis. Thirty-eight patients received preoperative vedolizumab and 94 received anti-TNF. There were more males and lower body mass index in the anti-TNF group. There was no significant difference in overall rate of complications at 30 or 90 days. There was a trend for lower leak rate vedolizumab group (0% for vedolizumab vs. 2.1% for anti-TNF at 30 days, P=1.00; 0% for vedolizumab vs. 1.1% for anti-TNF at 90 days, P=1.00). Multivariate analysis showed low albumin (<3.6 g/dL) at the time of surgery to be a significant risk factor for overall and infectious complications at 90 days (odds ratio, 3.24; 95% confidence interval, 1.12-8.79; P=0.021). Conclusions: Perioperative vedolizumab does not increase rates of perioperative complications in IBD surgery when compared to anti-TNF medications. (Intest Res 2022;20:72-77)

        Vitaliy Kirillov,Tamara Stikhareva,Gayane Atazhanova,Sezai Ercisli,Aigerim Makubayeva,Yana Krekova,Alimzhan Rakhimzhanov,Sergazy Adekenov 한국생약학회 2021 Natural Product Sciences Vol.27 No.1

The essential oils from the aerial parts (leaves and flowers) of Spiraea hypericifolia L. (Rosaceae), collected in Northern Kazakhstan, were obtained by distillation in two dispersion media (distilled water and 15% NaCl solution). The chemical composition of the essential oils was evaluated by GC-MS for the first time. The yield of the essential oil was 0.04% (in fresh growth conditions) and 0.02% (in dry growth conditions) respectively regardless of which dispersion media (H2O or 15% NaCl solution) was used at the isolation of essential oil. The main compounds were aliphatic hydrocarbons (alkanes) (40.6-53.2%), aldehydes (8.4-17.4%), diterpenoids (9.1-16.7%) and ketones (6.2-8.7%). Content of monoterpenoids was depended on dispersion media (2.2-3.6% where H2O was dispersion media and 8.4-8.5% where 15% NaCl solution was dispersion media). n-Heneicosane (17.4-34.1%) and n-tricosane (14.3-19.5%) were the main constituents of the essential oil of S. hypericifolia. There were many insects from different classes in S. hypericifolia at flowering. Important components such as α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone (0.8-2.8%), benzyl cyanide (0.7-1.1%), β-damascenone (1.2-2.9%), (E,E)-4,8,12-trimethyl-1,3,7,11-tridecatetraene (1.8-2.7%), β-ionone (0.5-1.8%) and others were detected in small amounts.

      • Information & Analytical Support of Innovation Processes Management Efficience Estimations at the Regional Level

        Omelyanenko, Vitaliy,Pidorycheva, Iryna,Voronenko, Viacheslav,Andrusiak, Nataliia,Omelianenko, Olena,Fyliuk, Halyna,Matkovskyi, Petro,Kosmidailo, Inna International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.6

Innovations significantly affect the efficiency of the socioeconomic systems of the regions, acting as a system-forming element of their development. Modern models of economic development also consider innovation activity, intellectual potential, knowledge as the basic factors for stimulating the economic growth of the region. The purpose of the study is to develop methodological foundations for evaluating the effectiveness of a regional innovation system based on a multidimensional analysis of its effects. To further study the effectiveness of RIS, we have used one of the methods of multidimensional statistical analysis - canonical analysis. The next approach allows adding another important requirement to the methodological provision of evaluation of the level of innovation development of industries and regions, namely - the time factor, the formalization of which is realized in autoregressive dynamic economic and mathematical models and can be used in our research. Multidimensional Statistical Analysis for RIS effectiveness estimation was used to model RIS by typological regression. Based on it, multiple regression models were built in groups of regions with low and relatively high innovation potential. To solve the methodological problem of RIS research, we can also use the approach to the system as a "box" with inputs and outputs.

Material characterization using finite element deletion strategies for collapse modeling of steel structures

Saykin, Vitaliy V.,Nguyen, Tam H.,Hajjar, Jerome F.,Deniz, Derya,Song, Junho Elsevier 2017 ENGINEERING STRUCTURES Vol.147 No.-

Abstract

The prediction of collapse of structures has gained growing attention recently, as it is important to be able to predict and model structural collapse due to extreme loads. A lack of accurate, pragmatic, and validated structural collapse models currently limits the capabilities for predicting collapse due to possible extreme loads. This research compares three finite element deletion strategies that account implicitly for fracture under monotonic loading to be used as predictive tools for collapse modeling of steel structures. The first strategy employs a Void Growth Model (VGM) to simulate the initiation of softening and the Hillerborg model for modeling of material softening, followed by an element deletion strategy that is developed in this framework. The second strategy adds a Bao-Wierzbicki model to the VGM strategy (VGM-BW) in order to account more directly for fracture initiation in lower and negative triaxiality regions. The third strategy is a constant critical strain (CS) approach that does not include softening but instead deletes an element when it achieves a peak equivalent plastic strain. The parameters of the VGM strategy were calibrated to a comprehensive set of experimental test results of circumferentially notched tensile (CNT) coupon specimens, the Bao-Wierzbicki parameters in VGM-BW strategy were determined analytically through tensile coupon (TC) specimens, and the CS approach used a constant value for equivalent plastic strain at softening initiation. These strategies were then validated through comparison with experimental test results of specimens commonly used for material characterization of steel. The results establish the accuracy and effectiveness of the VGM strategy for high-fidelity parametric simulation capabilities for collapse of steel structures and provide recommendations for where additional experimental research is needed to validate regions of low and negative triaxiality.

Highlights

3 finite element deletion fracture strategies compared for collapse modeling of steel structures.

Strategies calibrated analytically and by particle swarm optimization to a set of test results.

Strategies validated by comparison with experimental test results from variety of specimens.
