Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is characterized by fetal compromise and delayed neurological maturation. We report3 cases of early FGR in the 26th week of gestation, based on hemodynamic Doppler monitoring, conventionalcardiotocography, and non-invasive fetal electrocardiography (NI-FECG). Fetal heart rate variability (HRV), beat-tobeatvariations, and fetal autonomic brain age scores (fABASs) were normal despite the absence of umbilical diastolicflow in the first case and the pregnancy continued to 30 weeks. NI-FECG helped achieve better fetal maturity. FetalHRV and fABASs were low in the second and third cases. Fetal demise occurred soon in both cases. We conclude thatNI-FECG could be a prospective method for the detection of fetal distress in early FGR.

When evaluating acoustic methods for measuring physical parameters in the ocean, economical and technical considerations are paramount. As an indirect method of estimating ocean dynamics, acoustic tomography has advantages over more conventional approaches. It allows the reconstruction of temperature and flow fields from the acoustic impulse time-of-flight measured along the rays propagating from the source to the receiver. However, many problems require complicated and expensive systems. To use the acoustic tomography method to best effect, developing hardware systems with sources and receivers mounted permanently on the sea bottom is crucial. Akulichev et al. presented some experimental results from shallow zones of the World Ocean that served as a motive for developing a multifunction system with acoustic hardware and software. Here we present technical features and the sea test results of the system.

First ex-vessel core catcher has been applied to the practical design of NPPs with VVER-1000 reactors built in China (Tyanvan) and India (Kudankulam) for severe accident management (SAM) and mitigation of SA consequences. The paper presents the concept and basic design of this crucible-type core catcher as well as an evaluation of its efficiency. The important role of oxidic sacrificial material is discussed. Insight into the behaviour of the molten pool, which forms in the catcher after core relocation from the reactor vessel, is provided. It is shown that heat loads on the water-cooled vessel walls are kept within acceptable limits and that the necessary margins for departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) and of vessel failure caused by thermo-mechanical stress are satisfactorily provided for.
