The aim of this study was to assess the rate of uptake of a customised annual Colorectal Cancer Awareness, Screening and Treatment Project (CCASTP) using faecal immunohistochemical test (FIT) kits in low income communities in Malaysia. The immediate objectives were (1) to evaluate the level of adherence of CRC screening among low-income groups, (2) to assess the knowledge and awareness of the screened population and (3) to assess the accuracy of FIT kits. A total of 1,581 FIT kits were distributed between years 2010 to 2015 to healthy asymptomatic participants of the annual CCASTP organized by Empowered - the Cancer Advocacy Society of Malaysia. Data for socio-demographic characteristics, critical health and lifestyle information of the registered subjects were collected. Findings for use of the FIT kits were collected when they were returned for stool analyses. Those testingd positive were invited to undergo a colonoscopy examination. A total of 1,436 (90.8%) of the subjects retuned the FIT-kits, showing high compliance. Among the 129 subjects with positive FIT results, 92 (71.3%) underwent colonoscopy. Six cases (6.5%) of CRC were found. Based on the data collected, the level of awareness of stool examination and knowledge about CRC was poor amongst the participants. Gender, age group, ethnicity and risk factors (i.e. smoking, lack of exercise and low consumption of fresh fruits) were associated with positive FIT-kit results. In conclusion, CRC screening can be performed in the community with a single FIT-kit. Although CRC knowledge and awareness is poor in low-income communities, the average return rate of the FIT kits and rate of colonoscopy examination were 91.2% and 70.3%, respectively.
Photofield-Effect in Amorphous In-Ga-Zn-O (a-IGZO) Thin-Film Transistors
Tze-Ching Fung,Chiao-Shun Chuangc,Kenji Nomura,Han-Ping David Shieh,Hideo Hosono,Jerzy Kanicki 한국정보디스플레이학회 2008 Journal of information display Vol.9 No.4
We studied both the wavelength and intensity dependent photo-responses (photofield-effect) in amorphous In-Ga-Zn-O (a-IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs). During the a-IGZO TFT illumination with the wavelength range from 460~660 nm (visible range), the off-state drain current (IDS_off) only slightly increased while a large increase was observed for the wavelength below 400 nm. The observed results are consistent with the optical gap of ~3.05eV extracted from the absorption measurement. The a-IGZO TFT properties under monochromatic illumination (λ=420nm) with different intensity was also investigated and IDS_off was found to increase with the light intensity. Throughout the study, the field-effect mobility (μeff) is almost unchanged. But due to photo-generated charge trapping, a negative threshold voltage (Vth) shift is observed. The mathematical analysis of the photofield-effect suggests that a highly efficient UV photocurrent conversion process in TFT off-region takes place. Finally, a-IGZO mid-gap density-of-states (DOS) was extracted and is more than an order of magnitude lower than reported value for hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H), which can explain a good switching properties observed for a-IGZO TFTs.

Purpose: Central venous stenosis is a recurring problem affecting dialysis access patency. Increasing evidence suggests that the use of drug-coated balloons (DCBs) improves target lesion primary patency (TLPP) in dialysis access. However, few studies have investigated the use of DCBs specifically in central venous stenosis. Thus, this study presents our initial experience with DCBs in the central vein of a dialysis access circuit. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of all hemodialysis patients who underwent central vein angioplasty with DCB between February 2017 and March 2018 at Singapore General Hospital. We compared the primary patency post DCB angioplasty to the primary patency of the patient’s previous plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA). Results: We observed a 100% anatomic and procedural success rate with no complications. The median follow-up period was 151 days (interquartile range, 85.5- 234 days) and no patients were lost to follow-up. The 30- and 90-day TLPPs after DCB were 93.3% and 75.7%, respectively. The mean primary patency in our study group post-DCB during the follow-up period was 164 days (vs. 140 days in the POBA group). However, no statistically significant difference was detected. Conclusion: DCB showed a similar TLPP to that for POBA in treating central venous stenosis with a trend toward a longer re-intervention-free period for DCB. However, there were numerous confounding factors and a well-designed randomized controlled trial is warranted to assess the true utility of DCB in treating central venous stenosis.
On the shear stress and thermal footprints of turbulent spots at zero pressure gradient
Tze Pei Chong,Shan Zhong 대한기계학회 2013 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.27 No.4
Turbulent spots were artificially created in a flat plate boundary layer and visualized by shear-stress sensitive and temperature-sensitive liquid crystals. These procedures employ surface shear stress and temperature as passive tracers to provide insights into the structure of a turbulent spot at the near-wall region. The liquid crystals successfully displayed the “true” footprints of the spots. Quantitative data, such as the heat transfer rate, were likewise provided. The results of the present study prove the existence of a spanwise overhang on a turbulent spot, which could produce important implications on transitional modeling in gas turbine industry.

We construct a structural system that jointly examines Purchasing Power and Interest Parity conditions for Malaysia-China during 1996Q1-2010Q4. Structural VARX, VECMX, over-identifying restrictions, bootstrapping and persistent profiles are utilized in the analyses. We find support for interaction between the goods and capital markets of Malaysia China, when Asia crisis and sub-prime crisis are taken into accounts. The faster pace of adjustment towards price instead of interest equilibrium implies the non-appearance of sequencing problem in economic integration. Nevertheless, it is of concern that maintaining a rigid foreign exchange with major trading partner could be costly with potentially contagious price instability and financial risk.
Coping with Contingency and Uncertainty: The Yijing Hexagrams on Decay and Discordance
( Tze-ki Hon ) 성균관대학교 동아시아학술원 2019 Sungkyun Journal of East Asian Studies Vol.19 No.1
As a manual for divination, the Yijing is filled with stern warnings about calamity, regret, and remorse, as if the world is falling apart. These warnings not only underscore the contingency and unpredictability of the universe, but also direct attention to the dark side of human existence and things such as disease, deformation, degeneration, and death. Over the centuries, many commentators have attempted to make sense of these warnings. In this article, I will compare three commentators’ interpretations of four hexagrams: Gu 蠱□ (Decay, #18), Daguo 大過 □ (Crossing of the Great, #28), Kui 睽□ (Discordance, #38) and Jian 蹇□ (Crippled, #39). Through the comparison, I demonstrate how the Yijing can be used to address the human fear of uncertainty and chance.
