Objective The primary aim of this study was to prospectively compare the performance of the Broselow tape, Mercy method, pediatric advanced weight prediction in the emergency room extra-long (PAWPER XL) tape, and PAWPER XL mid-arm circumference (MAC) method in estimating the weight of children from a low-income setting. The secondary aim was to analyze the time taken to perform each method. Methods This analyzed a convenience study sample of 300 children aged 0 to 18 years at the Baragwanath Hospital in South Africa. Weight estimations were obtained using each of the weight estimation systems on each child. These weight estimations were then compared against the actual weight to determine bias, precision, and accuracy of the estimation methods. Results The PAWPER XL tape and PAWPER XL-MAC methods performed the best and provided estimated weights within 10% of the actual weight in 62.7% and 67.3% of cases, respectively, followed by the Mercy method (56.5%) and Broselow tape (43.9%). The use of MAC improved the accuracy of estimation, especially in heavier and taller children. The median times taken to perform measurements using the Broselow tape, Mercy method, PAWPER XL tape, and PAWPER XL-MAC method were 11.3 seconds, 34.7 seconds, 9.3 seconds, and 33.9 seconds respectively. Conclusion The PAWPER XL tape and PAWPER XL-MAC methods were the most accurate methods of estimating weight in this group of children. These methods may be considered in preference to the Broselow tape or the Mercy method for emergency weight estimation in low socioeconomic status populations.

Written for readers in Korea, this Survey provides a condensed outline of the many aspects of Chinese art history It covers, chronologically, the artistic development in China from the Neolithic period to the modem era. The outline introduces both two and three dimensional art works as well as architecture, furniture and garden created by the Chinese Att creativity is examined and interpreted not only from aesthetic viewpoint but also from its cultural, economic, social, political and religious backgrounds. This Survey gives special attention to the constant artistic and cultural exchanges with foreign countries throughout the Chinese histo교. On the other hand, it also addresses the unique characteristics of the Chinese art, In order to ensure the accuracy of such characterization of Chinese art, this Survey relies heavily on archaeologically discovered objects for the periods before the Mongolian Yuan dynasty. The last seven hunch-ed years of the Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties and the modem period at'e largely based on masterpieces in major collections around the world. The Survey often calls for attention to the spiritual and philosophical quality of Chinese art works. It also highlights artistic contribution made by female artists, Whenever appropriate, it briefly compares the subtle difference of similar aIt objects or movements between China and other Asian countries For example, the literati painting movement taken place in China, Korea and Japan: the international Gupta style in India, China, Korea and Japan. For the 20th and the 21st centuries, the Survey points out the duality in Chinese cultural traditions that allows diverse and varied development in Chinese artistic presentation. Therefore, we see the Christian West -inspired art existing side by side together with those derived from Chinese traditional Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism However, the rivalry between these two approaches and the difficulty in balancing one against the other is not forgotten. In conclusion, the Survey highlights three major cultural encounters in Chinese history: [1] the South Asian Buddhism-when Chinese curiosity and spiritual needs had facilitated the adaptation of the Buddhist faith and art for the Chinese to follow as early as the first century AD. [2] the Near Eastern art and culture they made their way along the vibrant Silk Route trade into China during the Sui and Tang dynasties. [3] During the early 20th century, the Chinese were given a chance to acquaint themselves with the so-called Mr. De (Democracy) and Mr. Sai (Science), which in tum gave birth to modem China and Chinese art.

Uremic patients with diabetes suffer from high levels of oxidative stress due to regular hemodialysis therapy (neutrophil activation induced by hemo-incompatibility between the hemodialyser and blood) and complications associated with diabetes. Several plasma biomarkers were screened in 13 uremic diabetic patients after receiving the mixture of (–)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a major component of green tea extract, and Amla extract (AE), from Emblica officinalis, the Indian gooseberry, for 3 months. We found that oral administration of a 1:1 mixture of EGCG and AE for 3 months significantly improved antioxidant defense as well as diabetic and atherogenic indices in uremic patients with diabetes. Furthermore, no significant changes in hepatic function, renal function, or inflammatory responses were observed. These results suggest that a 1:1 combination of EGCG and AE is a safe and effective treatment for uremic patients with diabetes.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fourth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in Taiwan. The Taiwan Liver Cancer Association and the Gastroenterological Society of Taiwan developed and updated the guidelines for HCC management in 2020. In clinical practice, we follow these guidelines and the reimbursement policy of the government. In Taiwan, abdominal ultrasonography, alpha-fetoprotein, and protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-II (PIVKA-II) tests are performed for HCC surveillance every 6 months or every 3 months for high-risk patients. Dynamic computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound have been recommended for HCC surveillance in extremely high-risk patients or those with poor ultrasonographic visualization results. HCC is usually diagnosed through dynamic imaging, and pathological diagnosis is recommended. Staging of HCC is based on a modified version of the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) system, and the HCC management guidelines in Taiwan actively promote curative treatments including surgery and locoregional therapy for BCLC stage B or C patients. Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), drug-eluting bead TACE, transarterial radioembolization, and hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy may be administered for patients with BCLC stage B or C HCC. Sorafenib and lenvatinib are reimbursed as systemic therapies, and regorafenib and ramucirumab may be reimbursed in cases of sorafenib failure. First-line atezolizumab with bevacizumab is not yet reimbursed but may be administered in clinical practice. Systemic therapy and external beam radiation therapy may be used in specific patients. Early switching to systemic therapy in TACE-refractory patients is a recent paradigm shift in HCC management.

Objective: Prospective studies on postoperative residual breast tissue (RBT) after robotic-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy (R-NSM) for breast cancer are limited. RBT presents an unknown risk of local recurrence or the development of new cancer after curative or risk-reducing mastectomies. This study investigated the technical feasibility of using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate RBT after R-NSM in women with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: In this prospective pilot study, 105 patients, who underwent R-NSM for breast cancer at Changhua Christian Hospital between March 2017 and May 2022, were subjected to postoperative breast MRI to evaluate the presence and location of RBT. The postoperative MRI scans of 43 patients (age, 47.8 ± 8.5 years), with existing preoperative MRI scans, were evaluated for the presence and location of RBT. In total, 54 R-NSM procedures were performed. In parallel, we reviewed the literature on RBT after nipple-sparing mastectomy, considering its prevalence. Results: RBT was detected in 7 (13.0%) of the 54 mastectomies (6 of the 48 therapeutic mastectomies and 1 of the 6 prophylactic mastectomies). The most common location for RBT was behind the nipple-areolar complex (5 of 7 [71.4%]). Another RBT was found in the upper inner quadrant (2 of 7 [28.6%]). Among the six patients who underwent RBT after therapeutic mastectomies, one patient developed a local recurrence of the skin flap. The other five patients with RBT after therapeutic mastectomies remained disease-free. Conclusion: R-NSM, a surgical innovation, does not seem to increase the prevalence of RBT, and breast MRI showed feasibility as a noninvasive imaging tool for evaluating the presence and location of RBT.

Seamless object tracking in wide area is an important and yet challenging issue of intelligent visual surveillance multi-camera collaboration tracking approach has been becoming attractive. In this work, a flexible and integrated system is constructed for object tracking using multiple cameras either with overlapping fields of views (FOVs), non-overlapping FOVs or mixed configurations for wide areas surveillance. The Kalman filter is applied for object tracking in a single camera and object motion prediction is implemented across blind regions for non-overlapping FOVs. Furthermore, a client and server architecture is constituted using TCP/IP network. The FOV lines are used to guide camera switching. In addition, we integrate various features for object matching. Finally, this system can track objects in a wide area no matter the FOVs are overlapping, non-overlapping or mixed situations.
