Background/Aims: To prospectively evaluate our palliative management of unresectable cholangiocarcinoma (CC) treated with tailored multimodal oncological therapy. Methods: Between January 2005 and January 2010, 50 consecutive patients with unresectable CC and jaundice were palliated with percutaneous drainage. Forty-three patients underwent metallic- stent implantation followed by brachytherapy. Patients were divided into two arms: the intra-arterial chemotherapy arm (IA arm, n=17) consisted of patients treated with locoregional treatment (IA admission of Cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil, or chemoembolization with Lipiodol) and/or systemic chemotherapy, while the systemic chemotherapy arm (IV arm, n=23) included all the other patients, who were treated only with systemic chemotherapy. Results: In total, 78 metal self-expandable stents were placed. Hilar involvement with mass-forming and periductal infiltrating types of CC (84%) was predominant. The average number of percutaneous interventional procedures was 11.61 per patient (range, 4-35). The median overall survival from diagnosis of disease for all patients was 13.5 months (range, 11.0-18.8 months). The median overall survival times were 25.2 months (range, 15.2-31.3 months) and 11.5 months (range, 8.5-12.6 months) in the IA and IV arms, respectively (p<0.05). The 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates in the IA and IV arms were 88.2%, 52.9%, and 10.1% and 43.5%, 25.4, and 0%, respectively. There were no major complications (WHO III/IV) due to interventional procedures. Conclusions: We could reach acceptable prognosis in patients with unresectable CC using complex tailored oncological therapy. However, the main limitations of prolonging survival are performance status, patient compliance and the maintaining of biliary tract patency. (Gut Liver 2010;4(Suppl. 1):S82-88)

Background: The use of medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil has increased due to its potential for therapeutic and ergogenic properties. Although recent evidence has suggested that MCT oil supplementation may lead to an improvement in endurance and substrate utilization, contradicting studies have reported the ergogenic benefits of MCT oil toward exercise performance. Methods: An extensive systematic review was conducted to assess the role of MCT oil as an ergogenic aid in exercise performance. Moreover, this study examined any alterations in substrate utilization and various physiological components while using MCT oil. The databases searched in this review were PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library. Results: Most studies reported that MCT oil did not improve exercise performance and had no effect on respiratory exchange ratio, glucose concentration, fat and carbohydrate oxidation, and lactate concentration. Although ketones were increased when supplementing with MCTs, most studies demonstrated that the body could not utilize the MCT oil-induced ketones as its primary energy source during an acute bout of endurance exercise. Thirty grams of MCTs seems to be the safe maximal dosage to minimize adverse reactions during or after exercise. Conclusion: MCT oil showed very little to no ergogenic effects on exercise performance and substrate utilization in healthy populations. Future research is needed to examine the effects of long-term intake of MCT oil alongside various diets, perhaps a ketogenic diet, on exercise performance within different sports/exercises in a variety of populations.
Design and Management Features of Ecological Sanitation

Much has been learned about ecological sanitation systems from the many units in the world today. In China and Vietnam, hundreds of thousands of rural households have double-varied toilets and many recycle their products in agriculture. This study focuses on a new improvement for the success of ecological sanitation project by using urine diverting dehydrating toilets including the design and management features of ecological sanitation toilet systems, so that mistakes can be avoided. Moreover, this will provide an overview of the variables that influence the choice of an appropriate sanitation system and the possibilities in dealing with liquids and in sanitizing solids.

The study investigates an influence of carbonyl iron (CI) particles’ corrosion on magnetorheological performance of their silicone-oil suspensions. Carbonyl iron particles were oxidized thermally at 500 °C in the air or chemically in 0.05 HCl solution and the as-treated particles were subsequently used as a dispersed phase in magnetorheological suspensions. Corrosive layer on surface of oxidized particles was investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Obtained rheological data was treated with Robertson–Stiff (R–S) model to determine yield stress values and in order to find the yield stress values of prepared magnetorheological (MR) suspensions at saturation level a mathematical model was used. The suspensions based on oxidized particles showed lower values of the yield stress, which was significantly manifested at higher magnetic field intensities due to lower saturation magnetization of the particles.

Prior research has investigated the consumer effects of cash and card payments in service settings, but the growing trend of innovative payment with a mobile device hasn’t been considered in the literature so fare. This article represents one of the first studies that considers the adoption of mobile as a new payment method and investigate how the ‘checkout’ phase affect the shoppers’ overall price image of retail stores (OSPI). Results from our studies show that the ‘checkout’ phase is the ‘moment of truth’ for shoppers judging OSPI. We investigate the effects of cash, card, and mobile payments and show that the less transparent a payment method, the lower OSPI judgments of shoppers. In particular, favorable comparisons of basket prices to shoppers’ mental budgets trigger lower store price perceptions. Subsequently, these results have major implications for retailers aiming to lower their OSPI in customers’ minds.

집적 회로 기술, 무선 통신 기술 그리고 마이크로 컴퓨팅 등의 기술 발전에 힘입어, 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경을 실현하고 차세대 IT 산업을 이끌 새로운 기술로서 센서 네트워크 기술이 점차 주목 받고 있으며 많은 연구가 활발히 수행되고 있다. 센서 네트워크는 가까운 미래에 마치 현재의 인터넷이 전세계에 보급된 것과 같이 응용에 따라 다양하고도 이질적인 센서 네트워크들이 거미줄처럼 전세계를 덮게 될 것으로 예상된다. 하지만 대규모의 다양한 센서 네트워크를 배포 및 관리하는 것은 단순하게 센서 디바이스를 구성하는 각각의 센서 노드들, 그리고 더 나아가 센서 네트워크 자체도 지속적으로 셍성되거나 소멸되면서 기존의 네트워크와 상호 통신하고 주위환경에 맞추어 변화하며 동적으로 진화해 나갈 것이다. 본 논문에서는 미래의 센서 네트워크 기술에 대해서 소개하고 그 중 핵심 특성인 진화능력(evolability)이 센서 네트워크 응용에서 어떻게 적용될 수 있는 지에 대해서 설명한다. 또한 진화능력을 기본 개념으로 새롭게 설계된 ANTS(An evolvable Network of Tiny Sense) 플랫폼에 대해서 소개한다.
Measuring Levels of End-Users’ Acceptance and Use of UDDT

This study focuses on a new improvement for the success of ecological sanitation project by using urine diverting dehydrating toilets (UDDTs). This concept links human waste to food security, recognizing the value of treated human waste for fertilizer. This shows that the UDDT is an efficient way to prevent the mixing of urine and feces by providing an area for these separate waste products to be treated. The level of acceptance toward UDDTs concept is acceptable to the people in San Fernando, La Union since they have no existing sewer and drainage system especially on the area of the bay side residents.
