        Study of Antimicrobial Effects of Different Types of Glycyrrhiza Extracts by Microcalorimetry

        Recently studies indicate that the microcalorimetry is a suitable measurement for metabolic activities of organisms by recording the rate of heat outputs. In this work, we investigated the growth thermogenic curves of Escherichia coli (E. coli) affected by three kinds of Glycyrrhiza extracts by microcalorimetry. The powertime and exponential phase power-time curves of the E. coli growth at various concentrations of extracts were generated. The kinetic parameters such as the growth rate constants (C), maximum power outputs (Pm), peak times (Tm), and inhibition ratios were calculated and the relationships between Pm or Tm and C were established. Also, the clear correlations among the antimicrobial effects, Pm and C were obtained. The results revealed the Glycyrrhiza extracts had inhibitory activities towards E. coli while the Glycyrrhiza polysaccharides showed the most potent effects.

        A Research of Minority Historical Park by IPA-Model : Tusi Castle at Enshi

        Tusi Castle is one of the minority historical parks in Enshi that tells people about Tujia minority’s history and culture. Differing from other normal amusement park, historical parks’research become very important because they have rapid construction rate but lacking of management experience. By using the questionnaires and Minitab software, the research by using the IPA-Model can we get Tusi Castle’s strong points and problems, so as to find the essential details about the further improvement. 토사성은 투지아 민족의 역사와 문화를 사람들에게 알리는 목표로 만든 지역 역사 테마 파크 중 하나이다. 엔터테인먼트 파크와 다르게, 역사 테마파크의 연구는 빠른 건설 속도와 관리 경험 부족함 때문에 중요하게 된다. 설문지와 Minitab 분석 소프트웨어를 통해 IPA 모델을 사용하며 투스성의 장점과 문제를 파악하고 개선 솔루션에 관한 세부 정보를 찾을 수 있다.

        Time-varying multi-objective region iterative learning motion control

        In the multi-axis motion control field, the point-to-point multi-objective learning algorithm, taking target point tracking accuracy as the major control objective, limits the optimization of other control objectives such as motion distance and energy consumption of the system. Therefore, this paper initially proposes multi-objective region iterative learning control algorithm, extending point-to-point tracking to region-to-region tracking and further optimizing other performance indexes via flexibly setting the region size on the grounds of the tracking requirements. In view that the fixed weight coefficient of each object in the multi-objective iterative learning algorithm is not suitable for occasions with dynamic control requirements, this paper further presents time-varying multi-objective region iterative learning control algorithm and unifies point-to-point tracking and region-to-region tracking under one algorithm framework. In addition, by means of designing time-varying weight matrix, strengthening major control objectives, weakening minor control objectives and satisfying the ever-changing control requirements, experimental results show that time-varying multi-objective region iterative learning algorithm is capable of flexibly adjusting the weight size of each objective in line with various control needs so that the control system is endowed with higher tracking accuracy in trajectory tracking segment as well as lower energy consumption and shorter motion distance in region tracking segment, thus having good flexibility.

        Hydrogeochemical characteristic evaluation and irrigation suitability assessment of shallow groundwater in Dangshan County, China

        The current study aims to identify the hydrogeochemical characteristics, formation mechanism and evolution law of shallow groundwater in Dangshan, China, and to evaluate the suitability of the groundwater for irrigation. In this study, ninety-six samples were taken to investigate the hydrogeochemical characteristics of shallow groundwater in Dangshan County. The geographic information system (GIS) method was used to analyse the spatial distribution characteristics of total dissolved solids (TDS). Gibbs diagram, Binary relation analysis and reverse geochemical reaction simulation method were utilised to reveal the main formation mechanism of relatively high TDS in this region. The results show that water-rock interaction and evapotranspiration are the main mechanisms for controlling the chemical evolution of shallow groundwater in wet and dry seasons in the study area, respectively. The main waterrock interactions in the study area include dissolution of halite and dolomite, the precipitation of gypsum, as well as cation exchange and adsorption. Suitability of shallow groundwater quality for irrigation use was evaluated according to the sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) and the electrical conductivity (EC) with a United States Salinity Laboratory (USSL) diagram. Meanwhile, GIS technology was used to demonstrate the spatial distribution of irrigation suitability variations. Based on the spatial interpolation result on the USSL salinity diagram classification, the shallow groundwater in 89% of the study area is suitable for irrigation, while 11% of the area is unsuitable for irrigation.

        Media coverage and labor investment efficiency: Evidence from China

        Using 2.09 million pieces of media coverage associated with Chinese firms during 2006 to 2019, we find a significantly positive relationship between media coverage and labor investment efficiency. Both newspaper and online media coverage can effectively reduce firms’ labor over-investment and under-investment. Our results are robust after addressing a range of endogeneity concerns. Further analyses show that the positive relationship between media coverage and labor investment efficiency is more pronounced for firms with higher labor cost stickiness or when human capital is more important to the firm’s business model. Mechanism analyses reveal that media coverage improves labor investment efficiency through compensation incentive mechanism, supervision mechanism and information disclosure mechanism.

        Local and Distortional Interaction Buckling of Cold-formed Thin-Walled High Strength Lipped Channel Columns

        In this paper, a series of axial compression tests were conducted on lipped channel columns constructed from cold-formed high strength Grade G550 steel sheet of thickness of 1 mm in order to investigate the local and distortional interaction buckling performance. The failure modes, ultimate loads and load–displacement curves of the specimens were reported and analyzed. The experiment revealed the deformation mechanism of specimens failing in local-distortional interaction or distortional mode. Besides, a fi nite element model was developed to predict the buckling performance of the specimens. The eff ect of diff erent imperfection shapes and material models on numerical results was investigated so that the reasonable fi nite element analysis can be carried out. It was found that the local buckling mode with an odd number of waves as the initial imperfection can produce practical deformation process. Meanwhile, the material model of Ramberg–Osgood can be applied for the nonlinear fi nite element analysis of the specimens. The parametric analysis was also performed to study the relationship between the sensitivity of specimens to local and distortional imperfections as well as the variation of bearing capacity with the geometric size. It was found that the lip width has great infl uence on the bearing capacity of specimens because of the signifi cant restriction of lip on distortional deformation.

      • Remote sensing of early-stage green tide in the Yellow Sea for floating-macroalgae collecting campaign

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The world's largest green tide originated from the Jiangsu Shoal of the Yellow Sea was due to fast reproduction of floating green macroalgae (<I>Ulva prolifera</I>). It brought significant impacts on marine environment and ecosystem in the Yellow Sea. In this study, we examined the expansion of green tide from the Jiangsu Shoal during the period from 29 April to 25 June 2016. Using high-resolution satellite images, we revealed a declined growth rate during the northward drifting of early-stage green tide for the first time, i.e., the green tide had higher growth rate (up to 25% per day) in the turbid waters of the Jiangsu Shoal in May and a lower growth rate (low to 3% per day) in the relatively clear waters in the middle of the western Yellow Sea in June, which suggests that water clarity might not be the key factor controlling the growth rate of the floating macroalgae in the surface waters under natural conditions. The high growth rate led to shortened time windows for controlling the green tide by employing macroalgae collecting campaigns at the initial sites of the green tide, which was no more than 14 days in the 2016 case.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Using high-resolution satellite image for detecting early-stage green tide </LI> <LI> Found changing growth rate of green tide </LI> <LI> Assessed the countermeasure of collecting floating-macroalgae at the initial sites </LI> </UL> </P>

        Functional profiling of the gut microbiomes in two different populations of the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens

        Previous studies have demonstrated that gut symbionts are involved in the detoxification metabolism of insect hosts, but the relationship between gut symbionts and host detoxification metabolism of the brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens, BPH) remains unclear. In the present study, an indoor population (NlIP) and a field population (NlFP) of the BPH were used to characterize the functional profiling of the gut microbiome based on 16S rDNA sequencing. The results show that the NlIP and NlFP strains of N. lugens had different symbiont compositions, and Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Firmicutes were the dominate phyla, accounting for > 75% of the total symbiont compositions. Additionally, the NlIP strain had more Pantoea and Stenotrophomonas, while the NlFP strain showed a higher Wolbachia, Actinobacteria, and Herbaspirillum relative abundance. Furthermore, functional content of the metagenome predicted by PICRUSt demonstrated no significant difference in metagenomic function between the NlIP and NlFP strains in the principal component analysis (PCA), and only three types of genes, namely, genes involved with metabolic diseases, poorly characterized genes, and genes involved in circulatory systems, were different between the strains based on KEGG pathway analysis, which also speculated that gut symbionts are not directly involved in the detoxification metabolism for insecticides in the BPH. These results will be helpful for further research into the mechanisms of gut symbionts involved in detoxification metabolism in the BPH.

        Gaofen-1 WFV 영상을 이용한 딥러닝 기반 대형 부유조류 분류

        매년 황해와 동중국해에서는 대형 부유조류인 녹조와 갈조가 대량으로 발생하고 있다. 이러한 대형 부유조류는 연안의 양식 시설물이나 해변으로 유입되며, 제거하는데 막대한 경제적 손실을 발생시킨다. 현재는 연안으로 유입되는 대형 부유조류를 탐지하기 위해 원격탐사 방법이 활발하게 사용되고 있다. 그러나 대형 부유조류는 해양의 다양한 대상들과 중첩되는 파장이 존재하기에 이를 정확하게 탐지하는데 한계가 있다. 더욱이 녹조와 갈조는 유사한 스펙트럼 특성을 보이기 때문에 원격탐사 자료를 이용한 구분을 더욱 어렵게 만든다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 위성 영상에 딥러닝 기법을 적용하여 녹조와 갈조를 효과적으로 구분하고자 하였다. 이를 위한 네트워크를 결정하기 위해 최적의 학습 조건을 찾아 AlexNet 신경망을 전이 학습하였으며, 학습과 검증을 위해 Gaofen-1 WFV 영상을 이용하여 데이터셋을 구성하였다. 최적의 학습 조건으로 학습된 네트워크를 이용하여 실험 데이터에 대한 결과를 확인하였다. 그 결과 실험 데이터에 대한 정확도는 88.89%를 보였으며, 녹조와 갈조에 대해 각각 66.67%와 100%의 정밀도로 구분이 가능하였다. 이는 전이 학습된 AlexNet 신경망이 녹조와 갈조의 미세한 차이를 구분할 수 있는 것으로 해석된다. 본 연구를 통해 해양의 다양한 대상으로부터 녹조와 갈조를 효과적으로 분류하고 각각 구분할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. Every year, the floating macroalgae, green and golden tide, are massively detected at the Yellow Sea and East China Sea. After influx of them to the aquaculture facility or beach, it occurs enormous economic losses to remove them. Currently, remote sensing is used effectively to detect the floating macroalgae flowed into the coast. But it has difficulties to detect the floating macroalgae exactly because of the wavelength overlapped with other targets in the ocean. Also, it is difficult to distinguish between green and golden tide because they have similar spectral characteristics. Therefore, we tried to distinguish between green and golden tide applying the Deep learning method to the satellite images. To determine the network, the optimal training conditions were searched to train the AlexNet. Also, Gaofen-1 WFV images were used as a dataset to train and validate the network. Under these conditions, the network was determined after training, and used to confirm the test data. As a result, the accuracy of test data is 88.89%, and it can be possible to distinguish between green and golden tide with precision of 66.67% and 100%, respectively. It is interpreted that the AlexNet can be pick up on the subtle differences between green and golden tide. Through this study, it is expected that the green and golden tide can be effectively classified from various objects in the ocean and distinguished each other.
