Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a serious public health problem accompanies with several complications. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of chromium picolinate (CrPic) supplementation on the glycemic status and lipid profile in patients with T2DM. The patients with T2DM (n = 52) were randomly allocated into 2 groups. One group received 400 μg CrPic per day and the other group took placebo; the intervention duration was 8 weeks. Anthropometric indices and metabolic factors were measured at the beginning, and at end of the study. The patients were recommended not to change their normal diet, life style and medication. No significant changes were observed for weight, body mass index, and fasting blood glucose (FBG) in both groups; while intra-groups changes in homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) value was significant (p < 0.05). Results of analysis of covariance showed that there were significance differences between groups in total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol and HOMA-IR at the end of the intervention adjusting for baseline levels (p = 0.035, 0.030 and < 0.001, respectively). In this study, oral supplementation with 400 μg CrPic for eight weeks did not alter FBG concentration as well as anthropometric parameters in individuals with T2DM. However, the modest beneficial effects of chromium supplementation on insulin resistance as indicated by HOMA-IR and lipid profile were found.
Clinical Data Warehouse Issues and Challenges
Razi O. Mohammed,Samani A. Talab 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of u- and e- Service, Scienc Vol.7 No.5
The Clinical Data Warehouse is a result of utilizing data warehouse technology in medical field. The clinical data usually collect from various sources (Clinical information system, and Patient data management system), and stored into data warehouse to be analyzed to make better use of their clinical data in order to Support decision making. The diversity of the nature of clinical data from other business data produces several challenges. These challenges include the clinical data format, business analysis, data integration, data quality, and ETL process. The paper is discussing the issues and challenges to address developing of a successful Data Ware Housing for medical organization, which provide a rich knowledge environment to support effective decision making and support research work. The paper concluded significant handling of these issues which affect the development phase of the Clinical Data Warehouse systems.
Design, Construction, and Evaluation of a Precision Vegetable Reaper to Use in Small Plots
Bagherpour Hossein,Talab Mohammad Mahdi Sadeghi 한국농업기계학회 2024 바이오시스템공학 Vol.49 No.1
Purpose In this study, a miniature and lightweight reaper that can harvest vegetable in small plots and does not damage the dedicated stems and roots of plants were designed and constructed. Methods For the design of the vegetable reaper, an initial step involved the calculation of the resisting forces for blade movement. Determination of engine power and the pully size of the simple power transmission system were conducted based on knife speed and the required cutting power. To evaluate machine performance, three important performance variables including eff ective fi eld capacity (EFC), cutting effi ciency (CE), and plant damage (PD) were assessed under fi eld conditions. In this evaluation, three variables of forward speed (0.8, 1.2, and 1.8 km/h), knife speed (3 and 4 m/s), and cutting height (3 and 5 cm) were assessed. Results The results indicated that the forward speed had a signifi cant eff ect on all three performance variables of the machine. Although the highest EFC was achieved at a speed of 1.8 km/h, the optimum values of CE and PD were obtained at the forward speed of 0.8 km/h. A cutting height of 3 cm and a blade speed of 4 m/s were chosen for this machine. To have a continuous rotation of the star-wheels, 5 teeth star-wheel provided the best performance compared with other shapes. Conclusions Using the light-weight vegetable reaper can reduce the crushing or damaging of the roots or stems as well as easing the harvesting process compared to manual methods. Because the vegetable plots are very small and the machine could be moved by the operator, eliminating the gearbox greatly reduced the slippage of the driving wheels and reduced damage to the dedicated stems.
Assessment of the partial and total replacement of feldspar by waste glass on porcelain properties
Marwa Marza Salman,Hussein Talab Nhabih 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2020 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.21 No.3
In this study, soda-lime silica waste glass was used as partial and total replacement for feldspar in porcelain. The preparedsamples from feldspar, quartz, kaolin and different percentages of waste glass by powder technology technique were sinteredat 1,100 ºC and 1,200 ºC. The tests measured for samples involves mechanical, physical and thermal properties. A results ofthese tests indicated an increasing and decreasing in the samples properties with increasing of waste glass additive, and thatcontinues to 75% waste glass of feldspar. While X-ray diffraction analysis indicated a presence of tridymite phase SiO2, mullitephase 2SiO2.3Al2O3 and anorthite phase CaAl2Si2O8 in the sample contained 100% waste glass of feldspar and fired at1,200 ºC. This study showed possibility of replacement of feldspar used in porcelain industry by waste glass as flux, and apercent of waste glass additive, which gives the best properties of porcelain samples, is 75% wt. of feldspar.
Enhanced Extraction Clinical Data Technique to Improve Data Quality in Clinical Data Warehouse
AbubakerElrazi O. Mohammed,Samani A. Talab 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.8 No.3
ETL process represents a major part in the process of clinical data warehouse development, where the efficiency of DWH is mainly depending on ETL component and its architecture. In medical field there are a huge clinical data stored in several medical operational systems during receiving medical services. However, extracting of these data are complex, time consuming, and labor intensive task to ensure high data quality before all kinds of data analyses. Moreover, integration of clinical data from various sources is challenges; where these data have been integrate from heterogeneous data sources from multiple health institutions with incompatible structures. Furthermore, heterogeneous clinical data are stored dispersed and isolated from one another. Thus, these clinical data need to be extracted and integrated into the clinical data warehouse through a robust extraction technique. This paper introduces an enhanced ETL technique, which integrate clinical data form heterogeneous data source into staging area.

In the current paper, a generalization of the results of Zhao et al. (2008) on a new design of C/C composite multidisc brake system is presented. The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of thermal sensitivity of Carbon/Carbon (C/C) composite material on the temperature distributions, deformation, and stress during braking. In this regard, a transient temperature-displacement coupled analysis for C/C composite brake discs with frictional heat generation under simulated operating conditions is performed. An axisymmetric model for brake system is used for the finite element analysis according to the theory of energy transformation and transportation. The transient temperature distributions on the friction surfaces, deformation, and stress are obtained. To check the validity, the results are corroborated with other solutions available in the literature, wherever possible. The current study could be used as a guide in the initial design of a high performance multidisc brake system.
