        南道音樂의 특징에 대한 管見

        The traditional music of Cho˘lla province 全羅道 is commonly known as namdo u˘mak 南道音樂 (lit. music of southern province) including such traditional terms as namdo ch'ang 南道唱 (vocal music of southern province), namdo chapka 南道雜歌 (professional songs of southern province), namdo minyo 南道民謠 (folk songs of southern province), and so on. This paper aims at giving an introduction to the musical characteristics of Cho˘lla province. In the main discourse the author points out the following three aspects of musical characteristics in the traditional music of Cho˘lla province. First one is the appearance of hemitonic technique known as kko˘kknu˘n ch'a˘ng 꺾는 청 or kko˘kknu˘n mok 꺾는목, which would not be found at the other regions of Korean peninsular except for Cho˘lla province. Second characteristics of namdo u˘mak is remarked by the appearance of modulating technique (or tonic shift) called kilbakkum 길바꿈 which would be found in p'ansori 판소리, sanjo 散調, and folk songs (see <musical example 1>) except for shamanistic songs (muga 巫歌) of Cho˘lla province. Third one would be found in the variation of regular rhythmic cyle (changdan 長短)(<musical ex. 2 and 3>). <Musical example 1> "Song for Meeting of Ch'unhyang's Mother and Yi Mong-ryong" (O˘satto Ch'unhyangmo Sangbong 어사또 春香母 相逢) sung by Kim so-hu˘i 金素姬 and transcribed by Paek Tae-ung. <Musical Ex. 2> "Nollyang" 놀량, One of So˘nsori San t'aryo˘ng 선소리' 山打令 songs, sung by Cho˘ng Tu˘k-man 鄭得晩 and transcribed by Paek Tae-ung. <Musical Ex. 3> "Hwach'o sago˘ri" 花草四巨里, a well known folk song of Cho˘lla province, sung by Kim So-hu˘i and transcribed by Paek Tae-ung.

      • Proteomic Analysis of Thiol Specific‐Protein Oxidation

        Peroxiredoxin II (Prdx II; a typical 2‐Cys Prdx) has been originally isolated from erythrocytes, and its structure and peroxidase activity have been adequately studied. Mice absent to Prdx II proteins had heinz bodies in their peripheral blood, and morphologically abnormal cells were detected in the dense red blood cell (RBC) fractions, which contained markedly higher levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, a labeling experiment with the thiol‐modifying reagent biotinylated iodoacetamide (BIAM) in Prdx I‒/‒ mice revealed that a variety of RBC proteins were highly oxidized. To identify oxidation‐sensitive proteins in Prdx II‒/‒ mice, we performed RBC comparative proteome analysis in membrane and cytosolic fractions by nano‐UPLC‐MSE shotgun proteomics. We found oxidation‐sensitive 54 proteins from 61 peptides containing cysteine oxidation, and analyzed comparative expression pattern in healthy RBCs of Prdx II+/+ mice, healthy RBCs of Prdx II‒/‒ mice, and abnormal RBCs of Prdx II‒/‒ mice. These proteins belonged to cellular functions related with RBC lifespan maintain, such as cytoskeleton, stress‐induced proteins, metabolic enzymes, signal transduction, and transporters. Furthermore, protein networks among identified oxidation sensitive proteins were analyzed to associate with various diseases. Consequently, we expected that RBC proteome may provide clues to understand redox‐imbalanced diseases.

      • Peroxiredoxin V Regulates Aco2, Acadm, and Acox1 Activity in Hypoxic Kidney

        Peroxiredoxin V, an atypical thioredoxin peroxidase, is widely expressed in mammalian tissues. In addition, Prdx V is localized in mitochondria, peroxisome, cytosol, and nucleus. Prdx V has been reported to protect a wide range of cellular environments as antioxidant enzyme, and its dysfunctions may be implicated in several diseases, such as cancer, inflammation, and neurodegenerative disease. Identification and relative quantification of proteins affected by Prdx V may help identify novel signaling mechanisms that are important for oxidative stress response. However, the role of Prdx V in the modulation of hypoxia‐related cellular response is not studied yet. In order to examine the function of endogenous Prdx V in hypoxic condition in vivo, we generated a transgenic mouse model with Prdx V siRNA expression controlled by U6 promoter. Of many tissues, the knockdown of Prdx V expression was displayed in kidney, lung, and liver, but not spleen and skin. We conducted on the basis of nano‐UPLC‐MSE proteomic study to identify the Prdx V‐affected protein networks in hypoxic kidneys. In this study, we identified protein networks associated with oxidative stress, fatty acid metabolism, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Our results indicated that Prdx V affected to regulation of kidney homeostasis under hypoxia stress.

      • Identification of Redox Sensitive Proteins in Prdx II Deficient Red Blood Cells

        Red blood cells (RBCs) have been studied as models for infectious diseases, various symptoms of anemia, hemolysis, and erythrocyte aging. Although do not directly affect RBCs, other diseases may cause RBC physiological alterations that could be advanced for diagnostic aim or to convince better understanding of a certain pathological pattern. In this study, comparative RBC proteomics between healthy and abnormal conditions involve to promote aging related‐biomarker discovery. We found oxidation‐sensitive 18 membrane and 41 cytosol proteins from 32 and 85 peptides containing cysteine oxidation, and analyzed comparative expression pattern in healthy RBCs of Prdx II+/+ mice (W1), healthy RBCs of Prdx II‒/‒ mice (K1), and abnormal RBCs of Prdx II‒/‒ mice (K2). These proteins belonged to cellular functions related with RBC lifespan maintain, such as cytoskeleton, stress‐induced proteins, amino acid/nucleic acid metabolic enzymes, signal transduction, and molecular transporters. Furthermore, protein networks among identified oxidation sensitive proteins were analyzed to associate with aging consequence. Consequently, we expected that RBC proteome may provide clues to understand redox‐imbalanced diseases.

      • Targeting Multiple Myeloma Cell Death with Polyphenol EGCG

        (‐)‐Epigallocatechin 3‐gallate (EGCG) is a potent antioxidant polyphenol in green tea that acts as an anticancer agent via both direct and indirect pathways. Although the relationship between EGCG’s anticancer effects and its antioxidant activity is not fully understood, it is known that EGCG stimulates production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which induce oxidative stress leading to cell death. In IM9 multiple myeloma cells, EGCG acted in a dose‐ and time‐dependent manner to induce apoptotic cell death. Among the antioxidant enzymes expressed in IM9 cells, levels of peroxiredoxin (Prdx) V were selectively and significantly reduced by EGCG. Moreover, the ROS scavenger NAC completely inhibited EGCG‐induced apoptosis and PrdxV reduction, while overexpression of PrdxV, but not a PrdxVC48S mutant, protected IM9 cells from EGCG‐induced apoptosis. EGCG‐induced reductions in cell viability and PrdxV levels were also observed in primary CD138+ multiple myeloma cells from patients. These results suggest that PrdxV is a key target via which EGCG mediates its anticancer effects.

        유백피 추출물을 함유한 하이드로겔 패치의 주름 억제 효과

        The decreasing effect of wrinkle on the pressure sensitive adhesive hydrogel patches containing ulmi cortex extract and sorbitol as the drug for anti-wrinkle were investigated. In this study, hydrogels were prepared by the crosslinking reaction of acrylic polymers and aluminum ions produced by L(+)-tartaric acid hydrolysis of the dihydroxy aluminum aminoacetates. The inhibition concentration of ulmi cortex extract on the collagenase exhibited at 0.01%. Furthermore, the moisturizing effect of hydrogel patches formulated with sorbitol was higher than that without it. In vivo animal test in hairless mouse showed that the ulmi cortex-loaded hydrogel patches had about 31.2% of anti-wrinkle effect compared to blank (before attaching the patches). Human test showed that only 33% of subjects showed the decreasing of wrinkle during 8 weeks. In conclusion, the model pressure sensitive adhesive hydrogel patches in this study would be pharmaceutically applicable for the wrinkle treatment on the facial skin.

        Physical Education at schools had been despised due to a long tradition of Confucianism of the ChoSun Dynasty. With the introduction of western sports, however, the Day had begun its long history. At the beginning, the Sports Day focused on the field events, and later it added the entertaining events. After it was extended to the Joint Grand Sports Day of each school, the scales and events were expanded year, and it drew people's attention as a result. It was the time that there were not much special events of interests, and with the rebellion against the Japanese colonial rulling, it enjoyed the explosive increase of attendance. Nevertheless, the Japanese imperialism, fearing the organized uprising, stopped the Sports Day. The study was done based on the Independence Newspaper detailed record of early Sports Day.

      • 朝鮮王朝實錄에 나타난 임금들의 遊戱ㆍ娛樂 및 餘暇活動

        Pysical activities, games and recreations enjoyed by the kings in the Choseun Dynasty are as follows: 1) As physical activities, they enjoyed tuho(投壺), gongchigi(擊毬), maesanyang( 應), hwalsogi(弓射,弓術), sanyang(山行, 狩獵) and musulhullyun(武術訓練). 2) As mental activities, they enjoyed planting flowers and trees, walking, raising animals, making poets, listening to music, painting, raising fish, fishing, building houses, sculture, playing baduk, ets. 3) They also enjoyed going to hot-springs, making trips to famous places, and the like. The kings in the early period of Choseun Dynasty had the tendency to enjoy physical activities, while those in the middle and late periods mental activities. The findings are : 1) Most of the kings in the Choseun Daynasty offered kinds of prize over the competing games, and stimulated the players' gambling spirit, making the games more exciting and vital. 2) They encouraged and raised the morale of the players and winners by offering a lot of liquor to them as prize.

        To revive and popularize our national traditional folk games today has some significant meanings. First, it brings the promotion of primary physical strength. Second, it has a worth of recreation. Third, it will make great contribution to both physical and mental health of the people to establish our national game or amuzement culture. Fourth, it also has a worth of sports. On the other hand the book shows as follows : First, our national traditional folk games have changed into modern physical exercise. Second, our national traditional folk games for women were very rare. Besides, our national traditional folk games make the spirit of the nation revived oday, the spirit of community established and the tradition of culture succeeded to the next generations.

      • 減壓處理가 토마토 果實의 Polygalacturonase 및 Cellulase의 活性變化에 미치는 影響

        Mature green tomato fruits grown at field were harvested on July 9. 1979. They were stored at 25℃ in 10-liter vacuum desiccators. The experiment for subatmospheric pressure treatment was carried out at 380 Torr while that for control was performed at 760 Torr. The purpose of this paper was to determine effects of subatmospheric pressure storage on the respiration, ripening behavior, firmness, and the activities of enzymes related to firmness of tomato fruits. Tamato fruits were, as expected, found to exhibit a sudden rise (the climacteric rise) in respiratory activity. The respiration rate of tomatoes stored at 380 Torr was decreased considerably as compared with that of controls. The ripening of the fruits was retarded and the storage life extended by subatmospheric pressure. Tomatoes for control experiment were ripened in 30days of storage at 25℃, but those stored at 380Torr were in pink or red stage. Polygalacturonase(PG) activity increased as maturity progressed. The increase rate of the PG activity was greater at the early red stage than other stages. The maximum reached at the time when the friuts commenced softening (red-ripe stage), but Cellulase activity was increased for 12days of sgorage, and decreased therafter. PG activity was inhibited significantly by subatmospheric treatment. In the case of cellulase, the enzyme activity of tomatoes stored at 380Torr was not significantly different from that of controls.
