        제주어와 제주방언, 이름의 정치언어학

        There are many ways which call the vernacular of Jeju island. For example, Jeju dialect, Jejudo dialect, Jeju patois, Tamla language, Jeju language, etc. Recently, the frequency in use of ‘Jeju language’ is on the increase. The purpose of this paper is to examine the change of names which call vernacular of Jeju island and to analyse the reason of this change. First of all, this paper starts with a critical review of the precedent discussions about the concept of language and dialect and their relations. This review enables us to overcome the limitations of the formal linguistic viewpoint about the relations between language and dialect. And then, examining the use aspect of the term ‘Jeju language’ and ‘Jeju dialect’, this paper analyses the concept of ‘Jeju language’ and the reason of this usage. This analysis result facilitates, not only our understanding of extralinguistic strained relations between ‘Jeju language’ and ‘Jeju dialect’, but also a good grasp on significance and problem of using the term ‘Jeju language’ which supplants the term ‘Jeju dialect’.

        대화형 인공지능의 윤리적 언어 표현을 위한 기초 연구

        The purpose of this study is to set up the concept and classification standard of unethical linguistic expressions(ULEs) as word unit that can appear in the machine learning of interactive artificial intelligence systems and humans conversation. The study also examined the characteristics of each type, based on examples. According to the results of the study, ULEs as word unit can be divided into three categories: ‘swear words’, ‘vulgar words’, and ‘derogatory slangs’. These three types are common in that they are all regarded as ULEs in any variance of emergence. However, they differ in two attributes, aggression and degradation. This study also suggests that there are two other types of ULEs: the ‘Context’ type, in which certain expressions may or may not be used unethically according to the context, and the ‘Content’ type, which can not be considered unethical linguistic expression in of itself, but its related content can be unethical linguistic expression overall. Therefore, this study identifies that the word-based unethical linguistic expression is classified into five types such as ‘swear words’, ‘vulgar words’, ‘derogatory slang’, ‘context’, and ‘content’, and each of these characteristics and examples were reviewed extensively.

        한글의 개선, 활용, 수출(세계화) 논의에 대한 비판적 고찰

        The purpose of this article is to examine critically the arguments for improvement, application and exportation(globalization) of Hangeul by providing an analysis of the various positions on this issue Firstly this article attempts a comprehension of the logic and the foundation of each argument (i.e., resurrection of vanished characters creation of new characters new combination of existing characters; application for phonetic alphabet or transcription sign; exportation to the speech community with no writing system or difficult writing system, exportation as new international script, etc.). And then, diverse critique and questioning on the necessity and the possibility of these efforts are commented Finally this article is concluded by asking the reconsideration on these arguments and by proposing to approach each question from a sociolinguistic view-point.

        이뇨작용 및 항종양효과가 있으리라고 예상되는 (acetylbenzoylvinyloxy)acetic acid 유도체(3a-3d)와 (dibenzoylvinylaryloxy)acetic acid 유도체 (3e-3h) 및 이들의 thioglycolic acid 첨가생성물(4a-4h)을 합성하였다. (dibenzoylvinylaryloxy)acetic acid 유도체는 hydroxybenzaldehyde 유도체로부터 monochloroacetic acid를 이용하여 2단계 반응으로 합성하였다. (Acetylbenzoylvinyloxy)acetic acid derivatives(3a-3d), (dibenzoylvinylaryloxy) acetic acid dervatives(3e-3h) and their thioglycolic acid adducts(4a-4h) which are expected to have diurectic activities and antitumour effect were synthesized. (Diacylvinylaryloxy)acetic acid derivatives wer prepared from hydoxybenzaldehyde derivatives via two step reaction employing monochloraccetic acid.

        Efficacy and safety of a home-use multi-energy-based device for skin tightening: a preclinical study

        Background: Several studies have investigated the effects of simultaneous application of various energy sources and technologies, such as radio frequencies, light-emitting diodes, and microcurrents, as well as sonophoresis and iontophoresis. The current study aims to develop a safe and effective home-use device that utilizes the synergistic effects of different energies and technologies.Methods: Six pigs were divided into three groups (two pigs each): Group A, 3-minute cooling mode; Group B, 6-minute intensive care mode; Group C, 12-minute intensive care mode. The back of the porcine skin was subjected to the relevant procedure, thrice daily for 15 days. Skin temperature was monitored to evaluate the thermal effects of the home-use device. In addition, changes in the collagen and elastin levels were examined through histological studies.Results: Visual inspection of the skin after device application did not show any skin damage at the treatment site. Examination of the skin surface and intradermal measurement of heat after treatment confirmed the deep heat generated by multi-energy sources. Histological staining revealed that accurate treatment of the target dermis layer effectively enhanced the deposition of both collagen and elastin.Conclusion: This study demonstrates the positive effect of using a home-use multi-energy-based device for skin rejuvenation. Utilizing the simultaneous and dynamic interplay of radiofrequency, light-emitting diode, and microcurrent along with sonophoresis and iontophoresis, proved to be a safe and efficient way to rejuvenate the skin.

        Evaluation of the safety and efficacy of home-use micro-focused ultrasound: a preclinical study

        Background: The demand for home-use micro-focused ultrasound (MFU) devices for dermatologic uses like facial skin tightening and treating forms of skin laxity is increasing. However, the procedures used to evaluate such devices remain underdeveloped.Methods: We performed simulations on ex vivo porcine tissues to calculate the thermal coagulation point (TCP) area corresponding to the applied energy levels. Surface and intradermal temperature distributions posttreatment on porcine dorsal skin were assessed during MFU. Subsequently, we evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the MFU device in vivo after single or repeated treatments. MFU energy was delivered in vivo to porcine skin at 7 MHz and 12 W to a penetration depth of 3.0 mm under different experimental settings. Tissue samples were obtained immediately after treatment and 14 days later and subjected to histological analysis.Results: TCPs were distinctly observed in ex vivo tissues after MFU. Energy-dependent micro-coagulation zones were small at ~1 mm3. The temperature escalation was linearly proportional to the number of treatments. Notably, MFU treatment promoted collagen and elastin deposition in vivo and induced neocollagenesis in the mid and deep reticular dermis and neoelastogenesis in the deep reticular dermis.Conclusion: The novel MFU energy regimen used in this study was effective in our animal model, and the energy settings used may mitigate unwanted side effects. Our results show that a home-use MFU device that provides uniform TCP and precise treatment can be safely applied to the face and effectively tightens skin.

        Application of 630-nm and 850-nm Light-emitting Diodes and Microcurrent to Accelerate Collagen and Elastin Deposition in Porcine Skin

        Background and Objectives: Skin aging is reportedly associated with regulation in collagen and elastin synthesis. This study investigated the potential of combining light-emitting diode (LED) treatments using a 630-nm and 850-nm LED with simultaneous microcurrent application. Materials and Methods: The dorsal skin of female pigs was treated with a home-use device. We examined the treatment effects using photography, thermocamera, microscopic pathology, and histological examination to determine the mechanism of action, efficacy, and safety of the procedure. A histological observation was performed using hematoxylin and eosin, Masson’s trichrome, Victoria blue, and immunohistochemical staining. We also used the Sircol soluble collagen and elastin assay kit to measure the amounts of collagen and elastin in the porcine back skin tissue after 2 and 6 weeks. Results: Evaluation by visual inspection and devices showed no skin damage or heat-induced injury at the treatment site. Histological staining revealed that accurate treatment of the targeted dermis layer effectively enhanced collagen and elastin deposition. Collagen type I, a protein defined by immunohistochemical staining, was overexpressed in the early stages of weeks 2 and 6. Combined therapy findings showed the superior capability of the 630-nm and 850-nm LED procedures to induce collagen; in contrast, elastin induction was more pronounced after microcurrent treatments. Conclusion: The home-use LED device, comprising a combination of 630-nm and 850-nm LEDs and microcurrent, is safe and can be used as an adjunctive treatment for self-administered facial rejuvenation.

        On the Direction of Public Language Policy in Korea

        The purpose of this paper is to find a reasonable direction of public language policy in Korea by analyzing the current situation and demands. First of all, this paper defines public language as “language text produced by public institutions for a public purpose targeting members of a society (ordinary citizens)”. And then, requirements of public language, specially `correctness` and `communicacy(intelligibility)` are identified through the review of precedent studies. Requirements of public language can find their meaning when they are materialized into actual guidelines of public language. For that reason, guidelines of public language at home and abroad are examined, and a category of `regard for audience / reader` is worth of notice. Finally, this paper proposes the following requirements of public language based on the discussions so far. [표 본문참조] These requirements can be used as the basis to establish direction of public language policy in Korea.

        Kinetic Studies on the Addition of Thiophenol to ${\alpha}$ N-Diphenylnitrone

        The rate constants for the nucleophilic addition of thiophenol to $\alpha$, N-diphenylnitrone and it's derivatives (p-$OCH_3$, p-Cl, p-$NO_2$) were determined from pH 3.0 to 13.0 by UV spectrophotometry and rate equations which can be applied over a wide pH range were obtained. On the basis of rate equation, general base and substituent effect a plausible addition mechanism of thiophenol to ${\alpha}$, N-diphenylnitrone was proposed: At high pH, the addition of sulfide ion to carbon-nitrogen double bond was rate controlling, however, in acidic solution, reaction was proceeded by the addition of thiophenol molecule to carbon-nitrogen double bond after protonation at oxygen of ${\alpha}$, N-diphenylnitrone.
