Adaptive Noise Reduction Filter for Speech Using Cascaded Sandglass-type Neural Network
Hiroki Yoshimura,Tadaaki Shimizu,Toshie Matumura,Masaya Kimoto,Naoki Isu 대한전자공학회 2008 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2008 No.7
In this study, we developed a new adaptive noise reduction filter (CSNNFR: Cascaded Sandglass-type Neural Network Noise Reduction Filter) which is extended from the SNNRF (Sandglass-type Neural Network Noise Reduction Filter). The CSNNRF can perform adaptive noise reduction while capturing dynamic characteristics of the speech signal, owing to the plasticity of the SNN. The CSNNRF is suitable for application to the hearing aid since the ease of hearing the speech signal after noise reduction is more important than the denoising rate. We examined the improvement rate of SN ratio and performed a hearing experiment to evaluate the performance of the CSNNRF as a hearing aid.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate mesothelin (MSLN) expression and determine itsclinical significance and correlation with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)expression in gynecological carcinosarcoma. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated patients with uterine carcinosarcoma (UCS)and ovarian carcinosarcoma (OCS) who under went surger y between 1997 and 2019. Immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens for MSLN(clone SP74) and HER2 (clone 4A5) was also performed. MSLN was scored using the H-scoreand 4-tired scoring system (0–3+). MSLN positivity was defined as any positive cell at anyintensity, while high MSLN expression was defined as an intensity of ≥2+ in ≥30% of tumorcells. HER2 expression was scored according to modified 2018 American Society of ClinicalOncology/College of American Pathologists criteria. Results: A total of 128 patients were recruited, including 119 with UCS and 9 with OCS. All cases in UCS exhibited MSLN positivity, and 33.9% showed high-MSLN expression. Clinicopathological characteristics were not significantly associated with high or low-MSLNexpression. However, the high-MSLN group showed more prolonged overall sur vival (OS)than the low-MSLN group (not assessed vs. 36.8 months; hazard ratio=0.48, 95% confidenceinter val=0.26–0.89, p=0.016). HER2-high patients had higher MSLN expression than HER2-negative patients. In high-MSLN and low-MSLN expression groups, HER2 status did notaffect OS. OCS showed 100% MSLN positivity, with 66.6% high-MSLN. Conclusion: MSLN expression is widely obser ved in gynecological carcinosarcomas. Moreover, high-MSLN expression is a favorable prognostic factor for UCS. MSLN could be apromising therapeutic target for UCS, even in the era of anti-HER2 therapy.

Objective: Autophagy is a bulk degradation system for intracellular proteins which contributes to skeletal muscle homeostasis, according to previous studies in humans and rodents. However, there is a lack of information on the physiological role of autophagy in the skeletal muscle of meat animals. This study was planned as a pilot study to investigate changes in expression of two major autophagy-related genes, microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3β (MAP1LC3B) and autophagy related 7 (ATG7) in fattening beef cattle, and to compare them with skeletal muscle growth. Methods: Six castrated Japanese Black cattle (initial body weight: 503±20 kg) were enrolled in this study and fattened for 7 months. Three skeletal muscles, M. longissimus, M. gluteus medius, and M. semimembranosus, were collected by needle biopsy three times during the observation period, and mRNA levels of MAP1LC3B and ATG7 were determined by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. The expression levels of genes associated with the ubiquitin-proteasome system, another proteolytic mechanism, were also analyzed for comparison with autophagy-related genes. In addition, ultrasonic scanning was repeatedly performed to measure M. longissimus area as an index of muscle growth. Results: Our results showed that both MAP1LC3B and ATG7 expression increased over the observation period in all three skeletal muscles. Interestingly, the increase in expression of these two genes in M. longissimus was highly correlated with ultrasonic M. longissimus area and body weight. On the other hand, the expression of genes associated with the ubiquitin-proteasome system was unchanged during the same period. Conclusion: These findings suggest that autophagy plays an important role in the growth of skeletal muscle of fattening beef cattle and imply that autophagic activity affects meat productivity.

A comparative study between 17 Japanese and 19 Indian patients with oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) revealed that the tumour prognostic indicator mean vessel density (MVD) count for angiogenesis was relatively high at 57.1 in Indian as compared to 39.3 in Japanese (P=0.001) cases, whereas the lymph-vessel density (LVD) count for lymphangiogenesis was lower (12.8 vs 48.0, P=0.002). Both male and female Indians had higher MVD counts, but LVD counts were only slightly lower in females. MVD count was relatively high among the cases below 65 years old in both the countries (P=0.4). Japanese cases with Tongue cancer had higher MVD count, but the Indian cases had lower LVD counts. Size-wise, T2 and T3 had higher counts of MVD both in Indian and Japanese cases. MVD and LVD count was higher in grades II and III both in Japanese and Indian cases. There was insignificant difference of the MVD counts among smokers, but the tobacco chewers in Indian cases had higher counts of MVD and LVD (P value by Bartlett test 0.35, 0.57 respectively). The hot-spots of tumour sites had variable rates of lymphocyte infiltration showed higher MVD counts in all the cases. Although the clinical characteristics and demographic variables usually relate to MVD and LVD counts, the tendency of higher values, especially among tobacco chewers, identified as the highest risk group for occurrence of oral cancer needs to be investigated further.
International Exchanges for Aspiring Students in Engineering Field

In 1996, the Faculty of Engineering, Niigata University, Japan entered an era of open student-exchange with Otto-von-GuerickeUniversity Magdeburg, Germany. Thus far, more than 50 of our students have devoted anywhere from three months, to an entire year of their courses, to collaborative efforts with fellow students, (-and some cases, the local citizenry) -in their native environment experiencing unfamiliar education systems and cultures.

The Faculty of Engineering, Niigata University, Japan, obtained the scholarship in “Short-Stay and Short-Visit scholarshipprograms(SS-SV programs)” for both German and Japanese students in 2011 and 2012. Our short-term student exchange programsproved that a short-term stay in a foreign country worked as an initiator for the students' interest and it strengthen their will tostudy further more in foreign countries.

Pseudoscorpions are one of the common arthropod in soil mesofauna but are infrequently studied in East Asia. The fauna in South Korea is not adequate enough, and practical faunistic survey of pseudoscorpions have not been conducted in last 20 years. In this article, the current pseudoscorpion fauna in South Korea is reviewed, and the results of the survey in Chungcheongnam-do Province, the DNA barcoding (mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase I sequencing) and molecular phylogenetic analysis are shown. A total 64 specimens, including four species, Allochthonius (Allochthonius) buanensis, Bisetocreagris japonica, Bisetocreagris turkestanica (first record from South Korea), and Microbisium pygmaeum, were collected. The result of molecular phylogenetic analysis based on the cytochrome c oxidase I sequences (427 bp) implied the existence of a possible cryptic species within A. (A.) buanensis. Faunistic survey and DNA barcoding of South Korean species can greatly contribute to the understanding of East Asian pseudoscorpion systematics.
