Mechatronics Education Using Robot Competition in Okayama University of Science
T. Akagi,S. Fujimoto,H. Kuno,K. Araki,S. Yamada,S. Dohta 한국공학교육학회 2010 공학교육연구 Vol.13 No.2
Electronics machines make daily human life more convenient and comfortable and try to ease burdens. When designing and manufacturing such mechatronic systems, the engineers need to have a wide range of knowledge. The purpose of our education is for students to learn to use mechatronic techniques. To realize our goal, we regard “an interest in creation” of our student as an important educational method. In this paper, we propose and try an educational method for mechatronics creation using “their interest”. The method is to hold robot competitions between 1st and 3rd year students as a regular curriculum. In order to confirm the progress of our students in our engineering course, in the last year, some students entered the Rescue Robot Contest held in Kobe Japan. As a result, our student team got second place, a great honor considering it was our first attempt. We confirm that the robot competition is a useful method to make students study by themselves.

The gesneriaceous perennial plant Titanotrichum oldhamii has beautiful foliage and attractive bright yellow flowers. However, breeding of T. oldhamii by conventional sexual hybridization may be difficult because sexual reproduction of this species is very rare. In the present study, plant regeneration systems via both direct and indirect formation of adventitious shoots from leaf explants were established as the first step toward breeding T. oldhamii by using biotechnological techniques. Adventitious shoots were formed efficiently on medium containing $0.1mg\;l^{-1}$ benzyladenine. Histological observation showed that shoot formation on this medium occurred directly from leaf epidermal cells without callus formation. On the other hand, leaf explants formed calluses on medium containing $0.1mg\;l^{-1}$ 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. The calluses could be maintained by monthly subculturing to fresh medium of the same composition. When the calluses were transferred to plant growth regulator-free medium, they formed adventitious shoots. Directly and indirectly formed shoots rooted well on medium containing $0.1mg\;l^{-1}$ indole-3-butyric acid. Plantlets thus obtained were successfully acclimatized and grew vigorously in the greenhouse. Flow cytometry analysis indicated that no variation in the ploidy level was observed in plants regenerated via direct shoot formation, whereas chromosome doubling occurred in several plants regenerated via indirect shoot formation. Regenerated plants with the same ploidy level as the mother plants showed almost the same phenotype as the mother plants, whereas chromosome-doubled plants showed apparent morphological alterations: they had small and crispate flowers, and round and deep green leaves.
THE RIGIDITY FOR REAL HYPERSURFACES IN A COMPLEX PROJECTIVE SPACE
TAKAGI, RYOICHI,KIM, IN-BAE,KIM, BYUNG HAK 경북대학교 위상수학 기하학연구센터 1999 硏究論文集 Vol.8 No.-
We prove a rigidity theorem for real hypersurfaces in a complex projective space of complex dimension n≥4. As an application of this rigidity theorem, we classify all intrinsically homogeneous real hypersurfaces in the complex projective space.
Thermal conductivity of PLA-bamboo fiber composites
Takagi, Hitoshi,Kako, Shuhei,Kusano, Koji,Ousaka, Akiharu The Korean Society for Composite Materials 2007 Advanced composite materials Vol.16 No.4
'Green' composites were fabricated from poly lactic acid (PLA) and bamboo fibers by using a conventional hot pressing method. The insulating properties of the PLA-bamboo fiber 'green' composites were evaluated by determination of the thermal conductivity, which was measured using a hot-wire method. The thermal conductivity values were compared with theoretical estimations. It was demonstrated that thermal conductivity of PLA-bamboo fiber 'green' composites is smaller than that of conventional composites, such as glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRPs) and carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs). The thermal conductivity of PLA-bamboo fiber 'green' composites was significantly influenced by their density, and was in fair agreement with theoretical predictions based on Russell's model. The PLA-bamboo fiber composites have low thermal conductivity comparable with that of woods.

Background: Industrial X-ray CT system is normally applied to non-destructive testing (NDT) for industrial product made from metal. Furthermore there are some special CT systems, which have an ability to inspect nuclear fuel assemblies or rocket motors, using high power and high energy (more than 6 MeV) pulsed X-ray source. In these case, pulsed X-ray are produced by the electron linear accelerator, and a huge number of photons with a wide energy spectrum are produced within a very short period. Consequently, it is difficult to measure the X-ray energy spectrum for such accelerator-based X-ray sources using simple spectrometry. Due to this difficulty, unexpected images and artifacts which lead to incorrect density information and dimensions of specimens cannot be avoided in CT images. For getting highly precise CT images, it is important to know the precise energy spectrum of emitted X-rays. Materials and Methods: In order to realize it we investigated a new approach utilizing the Bayesian estimation method combined with an attenuation curve measurement using step shaped attenuation material. This method was validated by precise measurement of energy spectrum from a 1 MeV electron accelerator. In this study, to extend the applicable X-ray energy range we tried to measure energy spectra of X-ray sources from 6 and 9 MeV linear accelerators by using the recently developed method. Results and Discussion: In this study, an attenuation curves are measured by using a step-shaped attenuation materials of aluminum and steel individually, and the each X-ray spectrum is reconstructed from the measured attenuation curve by the spectrum type Bayesian estimation method. Conclusion: The obtained result shows good agreement with simulated spectra, and the presently developed technique is adaptable for high energy X-ray source more than 6 MeV.
Fabrication of a Three-dimensional Terahertz Photonic Crystal Using Monosized Spherical Particles
Takagi Kenta,Seno Kazunori,Kawasaki Akira 한국분말야금학회 2006 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2006 No.1
Three-dimensional artificial crystals with periodicity corresponding to terahertz wave lengths were fabricated by self-assembling monosized metal spherical particles. The metal crystals were weakly sintered to utilize them as templates. The metal templates were inverted to air spheres crystal embedded in dielectric resin though infiltration and etching. The resulting resin inverted crystals clearly presented the photonic stop gaps within terahertz wave region and the frequencies of the gaps were confirmed to agree well with calculation by plane wave expansion method.
A MULTI-WAVELENGTH STUDY OF PAH-SELECTED STARBURST GALAXIES
Takagi, T.,Matsuhara, H.,Wada, T.,Ohyama, Y.,Oyabu, S. The Korean Astronomical Society 2012 天文學論叢 Vol.27 No.4
Using extensive mid-IR datasets from AKARI, i.e. 9-band photometry covering the wavelength range from $2{\mu}m$ to $24{\mu}m$ and the unbiased spectroscopic survey for sources with $S_{\nu}$($9{\mu}m$)>0.3 mJy, we study starburst galaxies specifically at the redshift of z ~ 0.5, whose mid-IR spectra are clearly dominated by the PAH emission features. PAH-selected galaxies, selected with extremely red mid-IR colour due to PAHs, have high rest-frame PAH-to-stellar luminosity ratios, comparable to those in the most active regions in nearby starburst galaxies. Thus, they seem to have active starburst regions spreading over the whole body. Furthermore, some of PAH-selected galaxies are found to have peculiar rest-frame 11-to-$8{\mu}m$ flux ratios, which is systematically smaller than nearby starburst/AGN spectral templates. This may indicate a systematic difference in the physical condition of ISM between nearby and distant starburst galaxies.
