Effects of four dim vs high intensity red color light regimens on growth performance and welfare of broilers

        D. Senaratna,T.S. Samarakone,W.W.D.A. Gunawardena 아세아·태평양축산학회 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.1

Objective: Broilers show clear preference towards red color light (RL). However setting of an optimum light intensity is difficult since dim intensities that favor growth reduce welfare. This experiment was conducted to test the most effective RL intensity regimen (Dim [5 lux; DI] vs high [320 lux; HI]) in combination applied at different growth stages that favors for both performance and welfare. Methods: Complete randomize design was adopted with 6 replicates. Treatments were; T1 = early DI (8-21 d)+latter HI (22-35 d); T2 = early DI (8-28 d)+latter HI (29-35 d), T3 = early HI (8-21 d)+latter DI (22-35 d), T4 = early HI (8-28 d)+latter DI (29-35 d) and T5 = control (white light; WT) (8-35 d) at medium intensity (20 lux). Body weight (BW), weight gain (WG), water/feed intake and ratio, feed conversion ratios (FCR) were assessed. Common behaviours (15) were recorded by scan sampling method. Lameness, foot pad dermatitis, breast blisters, hock burning damage were assessed as welfare parameters. Fear reactions were tested using Tonic Immobility Test. Ocular and carcass evaluations were done. Meat and tibiae were analyzed for fat and bone ash respectively. Results: On 35 d, the highest BW (2,155.72±176 g), WG (1,967.78±174 g) were recorded by T2 compared to WT (BWWT = 1,878.22±155, WGWT = 1,691.83±160). But, application of RL, either DI, or HI during early/latter stage had no significant effect on FCR. Under HI, birds showed much higher active behaviours. DI encourages eating. Though LI changed from DI to HI, same trend could be seen even under HI. The highest leg strength (218.5±120 s) was recorded by T2. The lowest leg strength (64.58±33 s) and the highest ocular weight (2.48±1 g) were recorded by T1. Significantly (p<0.05) the highest skin weight (162.17±6 g) but the lowest fat% in meat (13.03%±5%) was recorded by T2. Conclusion: Early exposure to DI-RL up to 28 days followed by exposure to HI-RL is the most favorable lighting regimen for optimizing production, better welfare of broilers and improving health benefits of meat.

      • Measurement of the D+ -meson production cross section at low transverse momentum in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

        Aaltonen, T.,Amerio, S.,Amidei, D.,Anastassov, A.,Annovi, A.,Antos, J.,Apollinari, G.,Appel, J. A.,Arisawa, T.,Artikov, A.,Asaadi, J.,Ashmanskas, W.,Auerbach, B.,Aurisano, A.,Azfar, F.,Badgett, W.,Bae American Physical Society 2017 Physical Review D Vol.95 No.9

<P>We report on a measurement of the D+ -meson production cross section as a function of transverse momentum (p(T)) in proton-antiproton (p (p) over bar) collisions at 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy, using the full data set collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab in Tevatron Run II and corresponding to 10 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. We use D-broken vertical bar -> K- pi(broken vertical bar) pi(broken vertical bar) decays fully reconstructed in the central rapidity region broken vertical bar y broken vertical bar < 1 with transverse momentum down to 1.5 GeV/c, a range previously unexplored in p<(p)over bar> collisions. Inelastic p (p) over bar -scattering events are selected online using minimally biasing requirements followed by an optimized offline selection. The K- pi(+) pi(+) mass distribution is used to identify the D+ signal, and the D+ transverse impact-parameter distribution is used to separate prompt production, occurring directly in the hard-scattering process, from secondary production from b-hadron decays. We obtain a prompt D+ signal of 2950 candidates corresponding to a total cross section sigma(D+), 1.5 < P-T < 14.5 GeV/c, vertical bar y vertical bar < 1) = 71.9 +/- 6.8 (stat) +/- 9.3 (syst) mu b.While the measured cross sections are consistent with theoretical estimates in each p(T) bin, the shape of the observed p(T) spectrum is softer than the expectation from quantum chromodynamics. The results are unique in p<(p)over bar> collisions and can improve the shape and uncertainties of future predictions.</P>

<P>The magnetic properties of polycrystalline ceramic samples (Nd1-xYx)(0.7)Sr0.3MnO3 with x = 0.21 - 0.35 were studied by means of dc magnetization and ac susceptibility measurements. Experimental results reveal a strong decrease of the ferromagnetic (FM)-paramagnetic phase-transition temperature (T-C) from 97 to 65 K as increasing x from 0.21 to 0.35, respectively. There is magnetic inhomogeneity associated with short-range FM order. Particularly, the samples undergo a spin-glass (SG) phase transition at the so-called blocking temperature (T-B) below T-C, which shifts toward lower temperatures with increasing the applied field, Hex; T-B -> T-g (the SG phase-transition temperature) as H-ex -> 0. The existence of the SG behavior in these samples was also confirmed by frequency (f) dependences of the ac susceptibility. For the in-phase/real component, chi' (T), it shows a frequency-dependent peak at the SG freezing temperature (T-f); T-f -> T-g as f -> 0. Dynamics of this process were analyzed by means of the slowing down scaling law, tau/tau(0) proportional to (T-f/T-g - 1)(-zv), where tau(0) and zv are the characteristic time and critical exponent, respectively. Fitting the experimental T-f(f) data to the scaling law gave the results of zv = 10.1-12.3 and tau(0) = 10(-21)-10(-15)s. These values are different from those expected for canonical SG systems with zv = 10 and tau(0) = 10(-13)s, revealing the cluster-SG behavior of (Nd1-xYx)(0.7)Sr0.3MnO3 samples. Notably, the increase in Y content leads to the shift of tau(0) and zv values toward those of canonical SG systems, which is ascribed to an expansion of SG clusters.</P>

Two-stage partial melting and contrasting cooling history within the Higher Himalayan Crystalline Sequence in the far-eastern Nepal Himalaya

        Imayama, T.,Takeshita, T.,Yi, K.,Cho, D.L.,Kitajima, K.,Tsutsumi, Y.,Kayama, M.,Nishido, H.,Okumura, T.,Yagi, K.,Itaya, T.,Sano, Y. Universitetsforlaget ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2012 Lithos Vol.134 No.-

The timing of partial melting and the pressure-temperature (P-T) paths in the High Himalayan Crystalline Sequence (HHCS) in far-eastern Nepal has been investigated using zircon chronology, rare earth element (REE) compositions, and P-T pseudosection analysis. Zircon from migmatites formed during Himalayan thermal events displays inherited magmatic core overgrown by two generations of metamorphic rims. The new rims are distinguished on the basis of their Tertiary ages, low MREE contents, and low Th/U ratios. The inner zircon rims from Sil+Grt+Bt+Kfs+Pl+Qtz and Ky+Sil+Grt+Bt+Ms+Pl+Qtz migmatites at different structural level of the HHCS display ages of c. 33-28Ma (Early Oligocene) and c. 21-18Ma (Early Miocene): these rims are characterized by flat MREE to HREE patterns and were overgrown by partial melt through muscovite dehydration melting under the stability of garnet, which occurred at P=c. 7-10kbar and T=c. 730-780oC, and at P=c. 8-14kbar and T=c. 720-770oC, respectively. The outer zircon rims are relatively enriched in HREE with respect to the inner rims and were overgrown at c. 27-23Ma (Late Oligocene) and at c. 18-16Ma (Early Miocene) during melt crystallization accompanying breakdown of garnet at P=c. 4-7kbar and T=c. 650-725oC. Early Miocene Ms-Bt leucogranites with two successively overgrown zircon rims at c. 18.3+/-0.3Ma and c. 16.3+/-0.2Ma were intruded into Early Oligocene migmatite hosts. Microstructural observations and the corresponding P-T conditions associated with the two generations of zircon rims indicate that the Early Oligocene and Early Miocene migmatites show relatively isobaric and nearly isothermal P-T paths during exhumation, respectively. The inferences are consistent with higher average cooling rates for the Early Miocene (c. 30-40oC/My) than the Early Oligocene (c. 15-25oC/My) migmatites, inferred from peak-T conditions and FT (c. 6Ma for both migmatites) and U-Pb zircon ages. The P-T-t paths of the two migmatites indicate that burial of the Early Miocene migmatites has been coeval with exhumation of the Early Oligocene migmatites, implying the formation of large-scale thrust within the HHCS.

      • Measurement of vector boson plusD*(2010)+meson production inp¯pcollisions ats=1.96 TeV

        Aaltonen, T.,Amerio, S.,Amidei, D.,Anastassov, A.,Annovi, A.,Antos, J.,Apollinari, G.,Appel, J. A.,Arisawa, T.,Artikov, A.,Asaadi, J.,Ashmanskas, W.,Auerbach, B.,Aurisano, A.,Azfar, F.,Badgett, W.,Bae American Physical Society 2016 Physical Review D Vol.93 No.5

<P>A measurement of vector boson (V) production in conjunction with a D*(2010)(+) meson is presented. Using a data sample corresponding to 9.7 fb(-1) of proton-antiproton collisions at center-of-mass energy root s = 1.96 TeV produced by the Fermilab Tevatron, we reconstruct V + D*+ samples with the CDF II detector. The D*+ is fully reconstructed in the D*(2010)(+) -> D-0 (-> K-pi(+))pi(+) decay mode. This technique is sensitive to the associated production of vector boson plus charm or bottom mesons. We measure the ratio of production cross sections sigma(W + D*) = sigma(W) = [1.75 +/- 0.13(stat) +/- 0.09(stat)]% and sigma(Z + D*)/sigma(Z) = [1.5 +/- 0.4(stat) +/- 0.2(stat)]% and perform a differential measurement of d sigma(W + D*)/dp(T)(D*). Event properties are utilized to determine the fraction of V + D*(2010)(+) events originating from different production processes. The results are in agreement with the predictions obtained with the PYTHIA program, limiting possible contribution from non-standard-model physics processes.</P>

Conventional and inverse magnetocaloric effects, and critical behaviors in Ni43Mn46Sn8In3 alloy

        Thanh, T.D.,Nan, W.Z.,Nam, G.,Van, H.T.,You, T.S.,Phan, T.L.,Yu, S.C. Elsevier 2015 CURRENT APPLIED PHYSICS Vol.15 No.10

A systematic study of the conventional and inverse magnetocaloric effects, and critical behaviors in an alloy ingot of Ni43Mn46Sn8In3 has been performed. Our results reveal the sample exhibiting structural and magnetic phase transitions at temperatures TCM = 166 K (TC of the martensitic phase), TM-A = 260 K (the martensitic-to-austenitic phase transformation) and TCA = 296 K (TC of the austenitic phase). The large values of refrigerant capacity (RC) around TM-A and TCA are found to be RCM-A = 172.6 and RCA = 155.9 J kg-1, respectively, under an applied field change of 30 kOe. Our critical analyses near the TCM and TCA reveal that a coexistence of the long- and short-range ferromagnetic order in the martensitic phase, while the long-range ferromagnetic order exists in the austenitic phase. Interestingly, at around TCA, the maximum magnetic entropy change (|ΔSmax|) versus magnetic field H obeys a power law, |ΔSmax| = a.Hn, where the exponent n is found to be about 0.66.

Red Color Light at Different Intensities Affects the Performance, Behavioral Activities and Welfare of Broilers

Senaratna, D.,Samarakone, T.S.,Gunawardena, W.W.D.A. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2016 Animal Bioscience Vol.29 No.7

Red light (RL) marked higher weight gain (WG) and preference of broilers compared to other light colors. This study aimed to investigate how different intensities of RL affect the performance, behavior and welfare of broilers. RL treatments were T1 = high intensity (320 lux), T2 = medium intensity (20 lux); T3 = dim intensity (5 lux), T4 = control/white light at (20 lux) provided on 20L:4D schedule and T5 = negative control; 12 hours dark: 12 hours day light. Cobb strain broilers were used in a Complete Randomize Design with 6 replicates. WG, water/feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR), mortality, behavior and welfare were assessed. At 35 d, significantly (p<0.05) highest body weight ($2,147.06g{\pm}99$) was recorded by T3. Lowest body weight ($1,640.55g{\pm}56$) and FCR (1.34) were recorded by T5. Skin weight was the only carcass parameter showed a significant (p<0.05) influence giving the highest (56.2 g) and the lowest (12.6 g) values for T5 and T1 respectively. Reduced welfare status indicated by significantly (p<0.05) higher foot pad lesions, hock burns and breast blisters was found under T3, due to reduced expression of behavior. Highest walking ($2.08%{\pm}1%$) was performed under T1 in the evening during 29 to 35 days. Highest dust bathing ($3.01%{\pm}2%$) was performed in the morning during 22 to 28 days and highest bird interaction (BI) ($4.87%{\pm}4%$) was observed in the evening by T5 during 14 to 21 days. Light $intensity{\times}day$ $session{\times}age$ interaction was significantly (p<0.05) affected walking, dust bathing and BI. Light intensity significantly (p<0.05) affected certain behaviors such as lying, eating, drinking, standing, walking, preening while lying, wing/leg stretching, sleeping, dozing, BI, vocalization, idling. In conclusion, birds essentially required provision of light in the night for better performance. Exposed to 5 lux contributed to higher WG, potentially indicating compromised welfare status. Further researches are suggested to investigate RL intensity based lighting regimen that favors for both production and welfare of Broilers.

Effect of Dietary Copper Sources (Cupric Sulfate and Cupric Methionate) and Concentrations on Performance and Fecal Characteristics in Growing Pigs

        Huang, Y.,Zhou, T.X.,Lee, J.H.,Jang, H.D.,Park, J.C.,Kim, I.H. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2010 Animal Bioscience Vol.23 No.6

This study was conducted to assess the effects of organic and inorganic copper on performance in growing pigs. A total of 100 pigs, average age 63 d and initial body weight 21.46${\pm}$1.13 kg, were assigned to five treatment groups. Dietary treatments included i) CON (basal diet, 0 ppm Cu), ii) T1 (basal diet with 67 ppm Cu as cupric sulfate, $CuSO_4$), iii) T2 (basal diet with 134 ppm Cu as $CuSO_4$), iv) T3 (basal diet with 67 ppm Cu as cupric methionate, CuMet) and v) T4 (basal diet with 134 ppm Cu as CuMet). Throughout the entire experimental period, ADG (average daily gain), ADFI (average daily feed intake) and G/F (gain: feed) ratios showed no significant differences. The dry matter digestibility was improved in the T1, T2, T3, and T4 treatments (p<0.05), as compared with CON. Nitrogen digestibility was improved in the T3 treatment group as compared with CON (p<0.05). As compared with the T1 treatment group, fecal pH values were improved in the CON, T3, and T4 treatment groups (p<0.05). Fecal Cu concentrations were significantly lower in the CON, T3, and T4 treatment groups than in T1 and T2 (p<0.05). The incidence of diarrhea was reduced when the pigs were fed on the T2, T3, and T4 diets as compared with CON. In conclusion, diets supplemented with 67 or 134 ppm Cu as CuMet may prove effective in improving nutrient digestibility and fecal pH value in growing pigs, and fecal Cu concentrations may be reduced by CuMet supplementation.

      • Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii and Trichinella spiralis infections in wild boars (Sus scrofa) in Korea

        Kang, S.W.,Doan, H.T.T.,Noh, J.H.,Choe, S.E.,Yoo, M.S.,Kim, Y.H.,Reddy, K.E.,Nguyen, T.T.D.,Van Quyen, D.,Nguyen, L.T.K.,Kweon, C.H.,Jung, S.C. Elsevier 2013 Parasitology international Vol.62 No.6

Toxoplasma gondii and Trichinella spiralis are important zoonotic pathogens with worldwide distributions. In Korea, several outbreaks of human toxoplasmosis and trichinellosis due to the consumption of infected wild animals have been reported. The purpose of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of T. gondii and T. spiralis infections in wild boars killed in Korea from December 2009 to October 2011. A total of 521 wild boars hunted in eight provinces were examined for antibodies to T. gondii and T. spiralis by using commercial ELISA kits. Overall, 25.1% of serum samples from individual boars were seropositive for T. gondii and 1.7% were seropositive for T. spiralis. Seropositive for T. gondii was found in the boars in all the eight provinces investigated and for T. spiralis in four provinces. This is the first report on the seroprevalence of T. gondii and T. spiralis infections in wild boars in Korea. The consumption of undercooked wild boar meat may expose humans to a high risk of infection.
