A bioorthogonal `turn-on' fluorescent probe for tracking mitochondrial nitroxyl formation
Sunwoo, K.,Bobba, K.,Lim, J. Y.,Park, T.,Podder, A.,Heo, J.,Lee, S.,Bhuniya, S.,Kim, J. unknown 2017 Chemical communications Vol. No.

A bioreductant-resistant 'turn-on' chemodosimetric fluorescent probe Mito-1 has been developed for the detection of mitochondrial HNO in live cells. Mito-1 enables the detection of HNO as low as similar to 18 nM. It has the capability to detect both exogenous and endogenous mitochondrial HNO formations in cellular milieus by providing fluorescence images. Its two-photon imaging ability fosters its use as a non-invasive imaging tool for the detection of mitochondrial nitroxyl.

A simple synthesis of Ag2+xSe nanoparticles and their thin films for electronic device applications
Sunwook Kim,Duc Quy Vo,Dang Duc Dung,Sunglae Cho 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.1
A simple method to synthesize silver selenide nanoparticles has been proposed. By changing the ratio of Se-oleylamine complex and silver acetate in the reacting mixture at different temperatures, both size and stoichiometry of the silver selenide particles could be successfully controlled. The size of the nanoparticles was adjusted by changing reaction temperatures. The synthesized silver selenide nanoparticles showed size changes from 3 to 10 nm when the corresponding reaction temperatures were 40-100 oC, respectively. In addition to the size change, the stoichiometry of the synthesized nanoparticles (Ag2+xSe) could be adjusted by simply varying the ratio of Ag to Se precursors. Through XPS analyses the x value in Ag2+xSe was determined, and it changed between 0.54 and −0.03 by varying Ag/Se ratio from 2/0.75 to 2/4. The optical property of the nonstoichiometric Ag2+xSe nanoparticles was different from that of stoichiometric Ag2Se nanoparticles, but showed the plasmon absorption of Ag-Ag network. The plasmon absorption was decreased with the increased concentration of the Se precursor. Finally, the Ag2+xSe thin film in this work showed large magnetoresistance and successfully applied to prepare high-performance Schottky diode. The Ag2.06Se film exhibited the magnetoresistance effect up to 0.9% at only 0.8 T at room temperature. The voltage drop and breakdown voltage of the Schottky diode were 0.5 V and 9.3 V, respectively.
Ovarian cancer in a former asbestos textile factory worker

Background: The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) defined that asbestos is a group 1 substance that causes lung cancer, mesothelioma (pleura and peritoneum), laryngeal cancer, and ovarian cancer in humans. Many studies on lung cancer, and mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure have been conducted, but there was no case report of ovarian cancer due to asbestos exposure in Korea. We describe a case of ovarian cancer caused by asbestos exposure in a worker who worked at an asbestos textile factory for 3 years and 7 months in the late 1970s. Case presentation: A 57-year-old woman visited the hospital because she had difficulty urinating. Ovarian cancer was suspected in radiologic examination, and exploratory laparotomy was performed. She was diagnosed with epithelial ovarian cancer. The patient did not undergo postoperative chemotherapy and recovered. She joined the asbestos factory in March 1976 and engaged in asbestos textile twisting and spinning for 1 year, 2 years and 7 months respectively. In addition, she lived near the asbestos factory for more than 20 years. There was no other specificity or family history. Conclusion: Considering the patient’s occupational and environmental history, it is estimated that she had been exposed to asbestos significantly, so we determined that ovarian cancer in the patient is highly correlated with the occupational exposure of asbestos and environmental exposure is a possible cause as well. Social devices are needed to prevent further exposure to asbestos. It is also necessary to recognize that ovarian cancer can occur in workers who have previously been exposed to asbestos, and the education and social compensation for those workers are needed.
Occult papillary thyroid carcinoma presenting with cervical neck lymph node metastasis
Sunwook Han,Sunghoon Hong,Jongeun Lee,Sungyong Kim,Moo-Jun Baek 대한종양외과학회 2019 Korean Journal of Clinical Oncology Vol.15 No.2
A 74-year-old male patient was conducted total thyroidectomy with functional neck dissection and final pathologic report confirm occult thyroid carcinoma. Although the frequency of occult thyroid cancer (OTC) has decreased owing to developments in cervical ultrasonography and improved accuracy of histological tests, rare cases are still reported. Due to the decreased frequency of OTC, a benign cervical neck lymph node mass is sometimes diagnosed, which can result in delays to more accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment. Therefore, we report our case.

Background: We report a case of extensor pollicis longus (EPL) tendon rupture caused by repetitive motions and awkward posture on hand and wrist joints. Case presentation: A 47-year-old right-handed man who worked for 15 years in an assembly line at an automotive manufacturing company has been diagnosed with a complete tear of right EPL tendon. We investigated the patient"s occupational history in detail and evaluated the tasks ergonomically through musculoskeletal risk factors survey and job strain index (JSI) using the 22 task-related videos recorded by the patient. Three out of the 12 tasks (25%) were identified as high-risk work on the hand and wrist in the musculoskeletal risk factors survey in 2016. Among the 22 tasks analyzed by JSI, 11 tasks (50%) were evaluated as probably hazardous. In addition, he used localized vibration tools in 19 (86.4%) out of 22 tasks. Conclusion: We concluded the patient"s disease was probably caused by repetitive motion and improper posture of the hand and wrist, and the hand-arm vibration is a possible cause as well.

Compared to acupuncture, the pulsed magnetic field (PMF) stimulus is a useful tool for treatment of many physical conditions and health maintenance due to its advantages as a noninvasive and nontoxic medical treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of PMF stimulus direction at PC9 on the alpha activity of electroencephalogram (EEG) and vascular aging calculated from photoplethysmograph (PPG). It can be concluded that the direction of PMF stimulus affects the increase of alpha activity of EEG and PPG, indicating the vascular stiffness and the sclerosis level of blood vessels weakly relevant to the direction of PMF stimulus.
