Varactorless Dual Band Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) for V-band Application
Sunanda Ambulker,Sangeeta Nakhate 대한전자공학회 2018 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.18 No.5
In this paper design and modeling of the dual band technique using transformer is described for V-band Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO). VCO has been designed and simulated for dual band operation using an octagonal transformer with two MOS switches as a tunable element in UMC 130 nm single poly eight metals (1P8M) technology. Under 1V supply VCO can be tuned for 51.6 GHz to 64.6 GHz. Phase noise at 10 MHz offset from 64.6 GHz carrier is -116.5 dBc/Hz, while the power dissipation is 6.32 mW. The Proposed VCO achieves the calculated Figure of Merit (FoM) of -184.69 dBc/Hz and provides wide frequency tuning with acceptable low phase noise for V band application.

Synthesis of highly exfoliated polystyrene/Na^+-montmorillonite (PS/Na^+-MMT) nanocomposites using Na^+-MMT clay platelets as stabilizer during suspension polymerization of styrene monomer is discussed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the presence of a small amount of Na+-MMT during the suspension polymerization of styrene without any suspension stabilizer (PVA) resulted in the formation of spherical PS/Na^+-MMT nanocomposites beads with a wide distribution of sizes. The wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) study revealed near delamination/high degree of swelling of Na^+-MMT clay platelets in water. The exfoliated clay platelets in water media prior to the polymerization of styrene monomer played the role of a stabilizer by preventing the agglomeration of the monomer droplets. Moreover, polymerization of the styrene monomer with organoclay (o-MMT) in the absence of a PVA stabilizer formed clusters of PS/o-MMT nanocomposites. WAXD and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed a high level of delamination with minor intercalation of silicate layers in the PS/Na^+-MMT nanocomposites, whereas intercalated nanocomposites were produced from the styrene/o-MMT polymerization system. The thermal stability of PS was also increased significantly in the PS/Na+-MMT nanocomposite, compared to that of the PS/o-MMT nanocomposites.

A novel tuning technique is presented here for 60 GHz applications. Coarse and fine tuning is performed using an octagonal transformer and a metal-oxide semiconductor variable capacitor (varactor), respectively. For the LC tanks inductive element, a transformer is used in which switches are placed at primary and secondary coils to tune the voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The classical P- type metal-oxide semiconductor varactor is used as a fine-tuning element with the advantage being that a linear frequency tuning range (FTR) is obtained. In each obtained band, the varactor provides a frequency range of approximately 2.9 GHz. Simulation shows that by on/off switches, obtain three frequency bands (55 GHz to 57.943 GHz, 57.172 GHz to 60.357 GHz, and 59.329 GHz to 62.4 GHz) to cover the whole V-band (60 GHz) frequency. The proposed 60 GHz VCO is designed and simulated using United Microelectronics Corporation’s 65 nm single poly 8 metal (1P810) complementary metal-oxide semiconductor technology. The FTR is from 55 GHz to 62.4 GHz with phase noise variation from -116.5 dBc/Hz to -114.5 dBc/Hz at a 10 MHz offset from the carrier. For the entire FTR, the calculated figure of merit is from 182.8239 dBc/Hz to -181.4564 dBc/Hz.
Feature Selection Based on Bi-objective Differential Evolution

Feature selection is one of the most challenging problems of pattern recognition and data mining. In this paper, a feature selection algorithm based on an improved version of binary differential evolution is proposed. The method simultaneously optimizes two feature selection criteria, namely, set approximation accuracy of rough set theory and relational algebra based derived score, in order to select the most relevant feature subset from an entire feature set. Superiority of the proposed method over other state-of-the-art methods is confirmed by experimental results, which is conducted over seven publicly available benchmark datasets of different characteristics such as a low number of objects with a high number of features, and a high number of objects with a low number of features.

The effects of Aegle marmelos (Rutaceae) leaf, Emblica officinalis (Euphorbiaceae) fruit and Ocimum sanctum. (Labiateae) leaf extracts were studied in L-thyroxine (0.5 mg/kg) induced hyperthyroidic mice. Separately combined effects of these three plant extracts and of a commonly used antithyroidic drug, Propyl thiouracil (PTU) were investigated for comparison. Serum concentration of thyroxine $(T_4)$, triiodothyronine $(T_3)$, glucose and the activity of hepatic Glucose 6-Phosphatase (G-6-Pase) were considered as main parameters. Hepatic lipid peroxidation (LPO), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and Catalase (CAT) activities were also studied to reveal the toxic effect of the plant extracts, if any. While exogenous $T_4$ enhanced serum concentration of $T_4$, $T_3$, glucose and the activity of hepatic G-6-Pase, a simultaneous administration of either A. marmelos leaf (1.0 mg/kg), E. officinalis fruit( 30 mg/kg) and O. sanctum leaf (50 mg/kg) extracts, to hyperthyroidic animals decreased all these parameters. However, the effects were more pronounced, as nearly normal thyroid function and serum glucose concentration were exhibited when all three plant extracts were administered together. A decrease in LPO and a concomitant increase in SOD and the CAT activities indicated the safe and antiperoxidative nature of the plant extracts, administered either alone or in combination. Our findings reveal that the three test plant materials exhibit synergistic effects without any hepatotoxicity, suggesting their potential use in the amelioration of hyperthyroidism and/ or hyperglycaemia.

We report linear and non-linear optical properties of a new quaternary chalcogenide glass series Ge19-ySe63.8Sb17.2Tey (y = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10). In linear optical properties; refractive index, extinction coefficient and the Tauc gap are reported and their variation with Te content has been discussed. In non-linear properties; third order nonlinear susceptibility and non-linear refractive index has been discussed. The variation of non-linear refractive index has also been reported with normalized photon energy. A correlation between the Tauc gap and nonlinear refractive index has been discussed. Results indicate that these materials may find applications in modern optical devices.
