(JCTC) Vol.9 No.3

Purpose In this study, we sought to verify the negative impact of perceived risk of OTA hotel buyers on trust and satisfaction, the positive impact of trust on satisfaction and loyalty, and the positive impact of satisfaction on loyalty. Methods For an empirical study, a survey was conducted targeting international students from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan in Central Asia who were residing in Korea and had purchased hotels using OTA. A total of 152 copies were used for empirical analysis. Results As a result of factor analysis, the perceived risk of OTA hotel buyers was classified into timing risk, performance risk, economic risk, and security risk, and trust, satisfaction, and loyalty were each divided into a single dimension. As a result of the hypothesis testing, only performance risk, which is a component of the perceived risk of OTA hotel buyers, was found to have a significant negative effect on trust, while time risk, economic risk, and security risk did not have a significant effect on trust. It was found that In addition, performance risk and economic risk, which are perceived risk components of OTA hotel buyers, were found to have a significant negative effect on satisfaction, while time risk and security risk were found to have no significant effect on satisfaction. Lastly, trust was found to have a significant positive (+) effect on satisfaction, trust had a significant positive (+) effect on loyalty, and satisfaction had a significant positive (+) effect on loyalty. Conclusion As In the end, it was found that the perceived risk of OTA lowers the buyer's trust and satisfaction, and the higher the trust and satisfaction, the higher the loyalty.

Factors Influencing Corporate Donations Among Shariah-Compliant Companies in Malaysia

Nur Diyana Izzati Mohamed SHAARI(Nur Diyana Izzati Mohamed SHAARI ),Mazurina Mohd ALI(Mazurina Mohd ALI ),Suhaily HASNAN(Suhaily HASNAN ),Nassr Saleh Mohamad AHMAD(Nassr Saleh Mohamad AHMAD ) 한국유통과학회 2023 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.10 No.1

Within the context of publicly traded Sharia-compliant companies in Malaysia, this study investigated the influence that board and company characteristics have on corporate donations. The primary focus of the study was (i) two board characteristics derived from upper echelons theory, namely gender composition and education level, and (ii) four firm variables derived from stakeholder theory, specifically company size, profitability, leverage, and industry category. This study used a total of 402 Shariah-compliant companies that operated in accordance with Shariah law. The information utilized in this study was culled by hand from the annual reports of various companies covering the years 2017 through 2019. According to the findings, the educational level of a company’s board of directors has a significant impact on the amount of money donated to charitable organizations by Shariah-compliant companies. The level of expertise possessed by board members can be of assistance to businesses in becoming more aware of the necessity of making contributions or donations. Corporate contribution practices among Shariah-compliant companies in Malaysia were also significantly influenced by the firm’s size, profitability, and the industry category in which the business was classified. The findings of the study contribute to a better understanding of the impact that board and company variables have on the activities of corporate donors.

Securing Malaysia’s Borders from Covid-19: Legal Considerations to the Influx of Rohingya Migrants

Rusli Hazmi,Dremliuga Roman,Suhaili Wan,Farisha Nur Alia 이준국제법연구원 2021 Journal of East Asia and International Law Vol.14 No.1

On March 18, 2020, Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared the nationwide enforcement of the Movement Control Order to curb the spread of COVID-19. In September 2020, Malaysia entered the third wave of the outbreak. Active cases rose from 60 to more than 13,000. The government’s Ops Benteng stops illegal migrants, who are at high risk of bringing COVID-19 into Malaysia. This includes illegal Rohingya migrants, who enter Malaysia to flee persecution in their home country, Myanmar. There are approximately 150,000 Rohingya migrants in Malaysia and more are expected. This article examines the main reason behind the influx of Rohingya illegal migrants and discusses whether the Malaysian government should tighten its borders to safeguard against COVID-19. The government must prioritise its own citizens over the Rohingyas; the responsibility of managing this humanitarian disaster should be shared with other nations, particularly those party to the United Nations Convention relating to the Status of Refugees 1951.

Association of Traffic-Related Air Pollution (TRAP) with DNA Damage and Respiratory Health Symptoms among Primary School Children in Selangor

Ili Nabila Ismail,Juliana Jalaludin,Suhaili Abu Bakar,Nur Hazirah Hisamuddin,Nur Faseeha Suhaimi 한국대기환경학회 2019 Asian Journal of Atmospheric Environment (AJAE) Vol.13 No.2

Exposure to Traffic-Related Air Pollution (TRAP) is a public health concern accountable for several health problems each year in Malaysia. Several studies globally have shown that children in schools near high traffic roads have increased risks for Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) damage due to higher exposure to TRAP. The study aimed to determine the association between TRAP exposure with DNA damage and respiratory symptoms among school children in Selangor state. PM2.5, PM10, Ultrafine Particle (UFP), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) were measured as TRAP. A cross-sectional comparative study was carried out among children in Kajang as exposed group (n=52) and Hulu Langat as comparative group (n=52). A set of standardized and validated questionnaires were used to determine respiratory symptoms and history of exposure. Measurements of indoor and outdoor air pollutants were conducted in schools. Buccal mucosa cells were collected, which then followed by investigation of DNA damage using a comet assay. All pollutants were significantly associated with reported cough and wheezing at p<0.05. Meanwhile, PM2.5, PM10 and UFP were significantly associated with comet tail length at p<0.05. Additionally, comet tail length in the exposed group was significantly higher (35.95±7.93 μm) than those in the comparative group (30.32±8.358 μm), and the difference was significantly different (t=3.450, p=0.001). Children were more likely to have genotoxicity of buccal mucosa if they were exposed to higher levels of ultrafine particles (UFP). This study demonstrated that children in schools near heavy traffic roads have an increased risk for respiratory symptoms and DNA damage due to higher exposure to TRAP. Therefore, this study supports its importance as a risk factor in associations documented between TRAP and respiratory health among children.

Inter Vivos Transfers Based on Affection for Wealth Distribution Planning in Malaysia

KAMARUDIN, Mohd Khairy,NOR MUHAMAD, Nasrul Hisyam,ALMA'AMUN, Suhaili,ABDULLAH, Abdul Hafiz,SAAT, Syahrulnizam,SAMURAH, Nurul Osman Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.4

Inter vivos in the context of wealth and estate planning can be generally defined as a transfer that takes place between the livings. Parents are motivated to transfer for altruisme and exchange. In this context, this study aims to explore another potential motives of inter vivos, which is 'affection'. Data is collected through semi-structured interviews with inter vivos experts who have published articles in this area. The interview is encoded and thematic analysis is carried out to classify themes and subthemes that exist in the inter vivos transfers. This study discovers four main themes, which indicate that inter vivos transfers based on affection can be enlightened by the relationship between parents and children, responsibility for children, types of inter vivos, and effects to other heirs. Relationship between parents and children can be explained as parents transfer their wealth to the closest children, children who care for them and to family members only. Parents also are responsible to protect their children after they die and assist them who are in need. Types of inter vivos are considered as boundless inter vivos and without any material return. Inter vivos based on affection also aims not to abuse other heirs.

Perceptions of Moral Intensity and Professional Commitment Towards Intention to Whistleblowing: Empirical Evidence from Malaysian Public Sector Organisations

MOHD ZEAMLEE, Siti Nurain,ALI, Mazurina Mohd,HASNAN, Suhaily Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.6

The study's goal is to look at the factors that influence people's willingness to whistleblow in the Malaysian public sector by applying two elements from the Moral Intensity Theory: the magnitude of consequences and societal consensus with professional commitment as an additional variable. The cross-sectional study used primary data collection through questionnaires adopted from previous studies. The survey questionnaires were distributed to target respondents from 27 ministries in Malaysian public sectors selected based on their grade positions in the departments ranging from Grade 29 and above. The findings revealed that societal consensus and professional commitments significantly impact the intention to whistleblow. The findings imply that closed people's opinions may have certain persuasive elements that influence the act of whistleblowing as a moral and ethical activity, thereby increasing their whistleblowing intention. The results also suggest that when individuals are more committed to their career and organization, they will act ethically and under the professional norm, hence, they will be inclined to whistleblow. On the other hand, the magnitude of consequences suggested an insignificant relationship with the intention to whistleblow. The results could facilitate the government in curbing the whistleblowing issue by defining its root before the implementation of necessary policies.
