Vol.22 No.4
The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effects of caregiving strain in the relationship between problem behaviors of people with developmental disabilities and depression of mothers, particularly the serial mediating effect of objective and subjective caregiving strain in the relationships between the two variables. For this purpose, we collected data from welfare centers, or therapy centers located in Seoul, Gyunggy, Inchoen provinces, and data collected from 344 mothers were analyzed in this study. The major results is as follow. First, the problem behaviors of people with developmental disabilities had significant effects on subjective and objective caregiving strains. Second, the objective strains had not significant effects on depression while the subjective strains had. Lastly, we found the serial mediating effects of objective and subjective caregiving strains in the relationships between problem behaviors and depression. Based on these results, we suggested policy makers and practioners should provide effective strategies for preventing of depression as well as for decreasing of caregiving strains to mothers with developmental disabilities.
Writing Teacher Views on Teacher Feedback : A Shift from Grammar Corrector to Motivator
Sookyung Cho 아시아영어교육학회 2015 The Journal of Asia TEFL Vol.12 No.3
This study aims to examine how Korean writing teacher views on teacher feedback change during the course of a graduate class focused on the role of feedback in second language writing classrooms. Although the content of teacher feedback, such as focus and form as well as feedback’s effects on students, has been extensively studied (Conrad & Goldstein, 1999; Ferris, 1997, 2001), the act of giving feedback from the teacher’s perspective has not been investigated. This study traces the changes in eight writing teachers’ reflections on the role of feedback as well as their actual feedback practices over one semester. The data include 1) participants’ written reflections during the semester, 2) samples of their written feedback collected at the beginning and end of the semester, and 3) their personal histories regarding feedback. Data analysis reveals that teacher feedback changed from focusing on the written text to focusing on the student writer. This finding was confirmed in the written feedback, as the end-of-semester feedback showed a greater emphasis on teacher concern for the writer. It demonstrated through use of hedges, compliments and honorifics (i.e., expressions of esteem and respect when addressing a person). Suggestions for writing teacher training and future research are provided.
Papular acantholytic dyskeratosis treated with CO2 laser

Papular acantholytic dyskeratosis is a collection of papular skin lesions which occur in intertriginous and genital area. They show a characteristic histology of focal suprabasal acantholysis without the connection to a syndrome such as the Hailey-Hailey disease or the Darier disease. We describe a 50-year-old man with an asymptomatic papular eruption on the perianal area for several years. Histologically, a biopsy specimen showed diffuse hyperkeratosis and irregular acantholysis throughout the epidermis. We used the CO2 laser therapy as a therapeutic option. Despite causing a long and painful healing process, a considerable reduction of the symptoms was achieved . Although we do not know the precise nature or the incidence of this disease, papular acantholytic dyskeratosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of verrucous papules in perineal or perianal areas and CO2 laser can be a good therapeutic option.
Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis induced by celecoxib
( Sookyung Lee ),( Dongyeup Lee ),( Dongjoo Kim ),( Myoungshin Kim ),( Unha Lee ),( Jeonghee Hahm ) 대한피부과학회 2015 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.67 No.1
Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a severe and rare eruption that characterized by a fever, neutrophilia and non-follicular pustules on the erythematous base with an acute onset. AGEP develops mostly from factors related to drugs, mainly antibiotics. A 65-year-old woman visited our clinic with generalized pustular exanthema on the intertriginous areas. She treated with celecoxib 200mg once for back pain 3 days ago.Laboratory studies revealed leukocytosis and increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate. The histological findings were subcorneal pustules, edema in the upper dermis and polymorphic perivascular infiltrates. Two days after using systemic corticosteroid, papulopustules on the trunk subsided and desquamation started. Three weeks later, re-epithleialization of denuded area with complete clearance of skin observed. Celecoxib is a cyclooxygenase-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug widely used to treat pain, which might cause AGEP very rarely. Here, we report a case of AGEP caused by celecoxib.
Identity Development of Korean Writing Tutors of English : Working on the Border
Sookyung Cho 아시아영어교육학회 2019 The Journal of Asia TEFL Vol.16 No.1
This study examines the identity development of Korean graduate students who worked as tutors of English writing at a Korean university, outside of the context of a writing studio. While many studies have been conducted to better understand the experiences of writing tutors at writing centers, several scholars have emphasized the importance of examining the identity construction of writing tutors who work outside writing centers. They argue that these tutors have more flexibility in developing their own identities compared with writing center tutors, who are more likely to have predetermined roles required of them by writing centers. This study, therefore, focuses on four graduate students who received training on giving feedback in a graduate course and tutored undergraduate students. The analysis of interview data and their feedback to tutees’ written texts illustrates that these four graduate students felt insecure as writing tutors, but that they utilize their perspectives as both teacher and student when giving feedback. According to Lave and Wenger’s situated learning, these tutors are taking steps towards full participation from legitimate peripheral participants by participating in the community of practice. Further studies can investigate how writing tutors develop and change their identities across other multilingual and local contexts.
