BMB Reports : Perspective ; Identification of a neural pathway governing satiety in Drosophila

Satiety cues a feeding animal to cease further ingestion of food, thus protecting it from excessive energy gain. Impaired control of satiety is often associated with feeding-related disorders such as obesity. In our recent study, we reported the identification of a neural pathway that expresses the myoinhibitory peptide (MIP), critical for satiety responses in Drosophila. Targeted silencing of MIP neuron activity strikingly increased the body weight (BW) through elevated food intake. Similarly, genetic disruption of the gene encoding MIP also elevated feeding and BW. Suppressing the MIP pathway behaviorally transformed the satiated flies to feed similar to the starved ones, with augmented sensitivity to food. Conversely, temporal activation of MIP neuron markedly reduced the food intake and BW, and blunted the sensitivity of the starved flies to food as if they have been satiated. Shortly after termination of MIP neuron activation, the reduced BW reverted to the normal level along with a strong feeding rebound. Together our results reveal the switch-like role of the MIP pathway in feeding regulation by controlling satiety. [BMB Reports 2016; 49(3): 137-138]

The new W3C specifications are designed to facilitate the cross-community integration of media objects, online media captioning, and temporal and spatial media fragments using uniform resource identifiers (URIs) designed to make video a first-class citizen on the Web.</P>
DNS Configuration in IPv6: Approaches, Analysis, and Deployment Scenarios

<P>IPv6 provides abundant address space and automatic network-parameter configuration. The IETF has proposed three approaches for DNS configuration in IPv6 hosts for recursive DNS server addresses and the DNS search list. The authors analyze these approaches and describe four deployment scenarios in IPv6 wired and wireless networks. They provide guidelines for DNS configuration that IPv6 network administrators and users can apply in their target networks.</P>
Acoustic performance of industrial mufflers with CAE modeling and simulation

This paper investigates the noise transmission performance of industrial mufflers widely used in ships based on the CAE modeling and simulation. Since the industrial mufflers have very complicated internal structures, the conventional Transfer Matrix Method (TMM) is of limited use. The CAE modeling and simulation is therefore required to incorporate commercial softwares: CATIA for geometry modeling, MSC/PATRAN for FE meshing and LMS/SYSNOISE for analysis. Main sources of difficulties in this study are led by complicated arrangement of reactive elements, perforated walls and absorption materials. The reactive elements and absorbent materials are modeled by applying boundary conditions given by impedance. The perforated walls are modeled by applying the transfer impedance on the duplicated node mesh. The CAE approach presented in this paper is verified by comparing with the theoretical solution of a concentric-tube resonator and is applied for industrial mufflers.
